First off this is awesome to actually catch a RangerDave video RIGHT when it comes out. That never happens for me. Been binge watching all your old videos and then all of a sudden this pops up lol. As for the next BF game we can debate this till the cows come home. My first love will ALWAYS be BF1942 AND... 2142 (shocker I know - I miss that game terribly). I bought meme t-shirts over BF1942, like Petey Plane Camper. I miss the days of having to land my plane and fly into the hangar to repair and rearm while people try to shoot me to steal the plane for themselves and also laying down a scout camera so my battleship could rain down fire with all 9 guns from across the map, while friendly AA on the ship shot down planes trying to bomb the battleship. Coral Sea and Battle of Britain were my all time favorite maps with some of the best dogfights I ever had in a BF game. I'm sure the safe bet would be a modern warfare game (alternate cold war setting where everything has gone to crap) but I think they need to add new features like bringing back the scout camera for artillery fire adjustment. I don't like things on autofire (click a button and a giant missile comes down and kills 20 people). I would like to see them synergize different classes. Nearby scout increases accuracy, nearby assault increases stamina for sprinting, nearby medic reduction in suppression and slightly more hitpoints, support increases damage. Also want to see more building like temporary structures mobile units that have to be assembled like larger heavy machine guns like a 20mm Bofor or a 12mm Kord. But they don't disappear on death and can be taken over by enemy the enemy team. I don't like the spawn vehicle mechanic. I like stealing enemy team vehicles just sitting around. Some of my fondest memories in BF1942 were getting shot down behind enemy lines, finding an enemy truck in a random shed in the middle of nowhere and driving it the enemy airfield and finding a plane and taking off in an enemy plane and continuing the mayhem. I think it might be interesting to add progression tiers just like you unlock abilities and equipment with vehicles and planes in BFV you can do so with your soldier. Customize your soldier for THE perfect custom loadout and then have squad unlocks for groups that play together for more abilities that can only be activated when certain conditions are met (like you are losing a battle really badly). Although this opens up the possibility for extreme monetization so I dunno. I just want to see a complete frostbite overhaul on BF1942 and 2142 with BF1 animations, destruction, atmosphere, and detail.

I think the next one is going to be based in the cold war, with some modes being more focused on vehicles and others being more focused on pure soldier vs soldier combat like they did in BF1. I'm hoping for more destruction and explosions and chaos like we had in BF1 but I'm trying not to get my hopes up. As for specialists I agree with your prediction on that. I also do hope for the return of ocean vehicles and even potentially something like the ocean based version of Apocalypse from BF1 (really trying to put an emphasis on that games greatness lol), I know the mode was unpopular but there's something very satisfying about working as a crew on something like a big ship and running lobbies.

Gameplay-wise, I want something like V but improved. When it comes to atmosphere and overall immersion, BF1. I don't care what time period the next BF game will be but I prefer not to have it in the future, BF2042 ruined that so we need to let the waters calm before trying it again. Cold War would obviously be a nice choice, but for specific conflicts the Gulf War and Vietnam would be cool events to depict (Correctly). IMO they should get rid of Specialists and return to the Class system, no reason to make the IP a hero shooter or hero shooter-like game. Closest to a hero shooter I can take is what V had where you play a 'named' character but that was in appearance only, and you can still change their appearance via face paint, uniform, weapons, etc. BTW Dave, did you see that Manor Lords finally has a releaee date? Will you be playing that again once it drops? Its demo was a genuine fun and more complete experience than I thought it'd be.

The thing I liked about levolution really only applied on certain maps, and that's when they actually changed the flow of the maps. Flood Zone's levee was absolutely awesome and could change the tide of the battle if one side was just demolishing the other in vehicular combat. Sunken Dragon was really similar as well. I think it'd be cool if they tried out a Cold War gone hot scenario, though that's incredibly unlikely to ever happen. It would differentiate it from the typical Vietnam game.
I thought a cold war battlefield would be cool. You could have it span from the Korean War, Vietnam, the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan. Would allow for assets to be used from BFV for the Korean conflict.

I would love to see the next Battlefield be based on an alternate Cold War scenario. Have a 1980s Cold War gone Hot, that way they can use a wide variety of weaponry and vehicles with some more modern aspects such a sights, night vision etc, but also have a wide variety of much earlier weapons to dip into.

Honestly what I've wanted forever is a proper new battlefield for Korean War or Vietnam War. Bonus points if they just do a Cold War type game and do a sort of roadmap similar to BF5 of say releasing the game with Korean War then releasing Vietnam War maps, then maybe Yom Kippur War, etc etc and rounding it all off with the Rhodesian Bush War. Gives you plenty of guns and things to play with, have vehicles specific for the maps like BF5, and your nations are not super specific in any of these conflicts so you don't have to deal with some weird backlash of Country X being angry you "painted them in a bad light". I don't want a modern game but I don't want another WW1 or WW2. WW2 needs to wait another 6 years to rev back up. Right now I think Hueys blasting "Fortunate Son" and F14s splashing Mig 21s is what would be the best move for Battlefield.

the way that battlefield v did hero/specialists is i think the BEST outcome we can hope for at this point. dice HAS to put specialists in the next game strictly because of cosmetics. i dont see any way that they go back to only generic soldier customization. they seem to really like the idea of each specialist having a unique ability, so again i suspect that they will be making a return in almost the same way unfortunately. to soften the blow maybe dice will include faction specific specialists and just have less of them, like two per class or something. hoping to be proven wrong on all of this of course but i just dont see any way that specialists dont come back
If they just went back to boots on the ground combat. The feeling of a solider going through probably the worst (last?) day in their life. The specialist route just made me sick and couldn’t even bring myself to play it longer than an hour. Battlefield was its own genre and they need to remember who they were and what they’re actually capable of.
My first video off release, a new fan, and ive been watching old videos. Keep up the great work, get well. Wow a lot to be said here. This video couldve easily been 30 to an hour long or more. Battlefield 1 and V were my first battlefield games. And they were the best. Then I got disappointed like most with 2042. It was fun at times but generally didn't feel the same. I agree with the refocus on map destruction, and I hugely agree with naval vehicles. I wouldn't mind a modern warfare theme BF, but I think historic does more for the game. They have a whole list of places and eras they can use, however I think these will be later titles, late 2025 at the earliest. If something comes out in 2024 my prediction/opinion would be what a lot are doing it seems now and that's a remastered. BFV remastered but do it correctly would be sick. Fix the last little bugs, some graphic changes but ADD TO THE GAME, add the eastern front, Russia and Italy factions, add more weapons, maps, etc. idc about the story add to it or not.there are some ideas there but not a requirement for me and I think most, it's for multi-player. ADD NAVY if possible I agree naval battles would be awesome, 3rd game mode could be that dogfight/navy battles, like Midway and battle of britan, mostly air and sea battles. But like i said. I wouldn't be opposed to a modern 2010s style BF or a Vietnam theme.
Imagine this. Battlefield Russian Civil war. There’s so many factions that could do. The reds, the whites, Ukrainian, polish, Finnish, Caucasus, Czech Legion, Japanese Army, etc etc. sure it would a sorta battlefield 1 part 2 but barley any games cover the Russian civil war
Was super pumped for bf2042 for the longest time. Upon release never bought it.. not a fan of hero/special abilities. Honestly would love a remaster of BF3/4 or possibly a gulf/afgan setting. American, Russian and Middle East factions. Vehicle balance would be heavily unbalanced so idk how that would work. Someone mentioned “Cold war turned Hot” which would be cool

My biggest prediction: The community will not be satisfied. That is the only thing that has been constant on all the games of the last decade, save for BF1. For every release, whether a game or an update, there has been a short buzz of positivity (at best) and then it's back to negativity. As for setting, modern is definitely the most marketable (WW1 is not, and BFV had terrible reception at reveal so no WW2), though DICE doesn't seem to like to retread ground on subsequent releases. Maybe we'll get a cold war setting, though COD:BOCW still feels fresh and it was mediocre. As for preference, I don't really have any as long as they do it well.
And why do you think that dissatisfaction exists? Perhaps it's because of the consistently misleading and bad marketing, or the fact the devs seem to not play their own game with how they keep fucking up basic balancing, or the consistent lack of content, or the terrible launch states with bugs up the wazzoo, or any number of those.

God no, the game NEEDS easily readable recognisable silhouettes like in bf3/4/1 otherwise you get the mess that is 2042 where you can look like a recon but have an lmg ect.
Bf1 and BF5 seem to be all time favorites , they should focus on making more surreal battlefield war maps, the pacific theater in BF5 was amazing , but with Bf2042, it seems they only care about money with the dumb seasons. And they’re still live supporting the horrible game . I would pay for dumb seasons in actual war maps , there is still potential for WW2 related maps . Everyone thought we were gonna storm the beaches on France and fight on the Frozen tundra of Russia . There is still much potential and vehicles should also be a factor . Air support in BF2042 is useless and no one seems to play them neither do tanks play on the battlefield. You can’t distinguish BF2042 from MW now and it’s ridiculous for dice to have listened to the Covid crazed society when Bf2042 was in development, they listened to the public and that’s the reason Bf2042 is awful. Worst $120 I ever spent and never played more than 30hrs on BF2042
Would love to see an early Cold War game with late ww2 early cold war tanks, so Pershing’s,is-3s, centurions, etc. not necessarily realistic but kind of a what if the Cold War kicked off early on, pre abrams vehicles I guess
I have been playing bf5 and bf1 and man, bf4 is just so much better, bf5 is unbalanced to unfun but playable status, bf1 is the gas mask any% prototype weapon insta kill, bf4 its just shoot the bad guys and help the team, i'm losing and i still have fun on bf4
Id honestly wouldnt mind just getting another bf1 or bf5. Maybe not ww1 and 2, but wars before that. Or after. But not too modern. The modern ones arent good anymore and rarely accurate.
I would go for a cold war/ proxy war with Korea and Vietnam being the main focus. This would be easy to have weapon assets to be from BFV that weren’t phased out in the 50s. I would like to see a return to the original class system with realistic customization. Also they need to drop the 128 player lobbys as the new standard. Unless you can fill the lobby without bots, keep only 64 or less game modes.
They have made the next frostbite engine now. The next BF will be around 2025. I hope its modern era setting. Hope the make the game with passion instead of micro-transaction mindset.
Frankly I hope they reduce the size of the maps because honestly my biggest complaint in bfV was the absolute lack of action You'd just run around half the game before getting into a small skirmish every once in a while and it was so boring.
They need to make a new BF4, that resembles Arma or Squad video games. With better graphics and newer weapons and maps. 2042 is not a game anyone really wants to play.
BFV is definitely much better designed in terms of game mechanics, I think BF1 gets more love because it just had better marketing, less dramas and more consistent atmosphere. BF1 is better as an interactive movie, BFV is better as an actual game

I think the next one is going to be based in the cold war, with some modes being more focused on vehicles and others being more focused on pure soldier vs soldier combat like they did in BF1. I'm hoping for more destruction and explosions and chaos like we had in BF1 but I'm trying not to get my hopes up. As for specialists I agree with your prediction on that. I also do hope for the return of ocean vehicles and even potentially something like the ocean based version of Apocalypse from BF1 (really trying to put an emphasis on that games greatness lol), I know the mode was unpopular but there's something very satisfying about working as a crew on something like a big ship and running lobbies.

Gameplay-wise, I want something like V but improved. When it comes to atmosphere and overall immersion, BF1. I don't care what time period the next BF game will be but I prefer not to have it in the future, BF2042 ruined that so we need to let the waters calm before trying it again. Cold War would obviously be a nice choice, but for specific conflicts the Gulf War and Vietnam would be cool events to depict (Correctly).
IMO they should get rid of Specialists and return to the Class system, no reason to make the IP a hero shooter or hero shooter-like game. Closest to a hero shooter I can take is what V had where you play a 'named' character but that was in appearance only, and you can still change their appearance via face paint, uniform, weapons, etc.
BTW Dave, did you see that Manor Lords finally has a releaee date? Will you be playing that again once it drops? Its demo was a genuine fun and more complete experience than I thought it'd be.

The thing I liked about levolution really only applied on certain maps, and that's when they actually changed the flow of the maps. Flood Zone's levee was absolutely awesome and could change the tide of the battle if one side was just demolishing the other in vehicular combat. Sunken Dragon was really similar as well. I think it'd be cool if they tried out a Cold War gone hot scenario, though that's incredibly unlikely to ever happen. It would differentiate it from the typical Vietnam game.
I thought a cold war battlefield would be cool. You could have it span from the Korean War, Vietnam, the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan. Would allow for assets to be used from BFV for the Korean conflict.
My ideal next BF game:

I would love to see the next Battlefield be based on an alternate Cold War scenario. Have a 1980s Cold War gone Hot, that way they can use a wide variety of weaponry and vehicles with some more modern aspects such a sights, night vision etc, but also have a wide variety of much earlier weapons to dip into.

Honestly what I've wanted forever is a proper new battlefield for Korean War or Vietnam War. Bonus points if they just do a Cold War type game and do a sort of roadmap similar to BF5 of say releasing the game with Korean War then releasing Vietnam War maps, then maybe Yom Kippur War, etc etc and rounding it all off with the Rhodesian Bush War. Gives you plenty of guns and things to play with, have vehicles specific for the maps like BF5, and your nations are not super specific in any of these conflicts so you don't have to deal with some weird backlash of Country X being angry you "painted them in a bad light". I don't want a modern game but I don't want another WW1 or WW2. WW2 needs to wait another 6 years to rev back up. Right now I think Hueys blasting "Fortunate Son" and F14s splashing Mig 21s is what would be the best move for Battlefield.

the way that battlefield v did hero/specialists is i think the BEST outcome we can hope for at this point. dice HAS to put specialists in the next game strictly because of cosmetics. i dont see any way that they go back to only generic soldier customization. they seem to really like the idea of each specialist having a unique ability, so again i suspect that they will be making a return in almost the same way unfortunately. to soften the blow maybe dice will include faction specific specialists and just have less of them, like two per class or something. hoping to be proven wrong on all of this of course but i just dont see any way that specialists dont come back
If they just went back to boots on the ground combat. The feeling of a solider going through probably the worst (last?) day in their life. The specialist route just made me sick and couldn’t even bring myself to play it longer than an hour. Battlefield was its own genre and they need to remember who they were and what they’re actually capable of.

Wow a lot to be said here. This video couldve easily been 30 to an hour long or more. Battlefield 1 and V were my first battlefield games. And they were the best. Then I got disappointed like most with 2042. It was fun at times but generally didn't feel the same.
I agree with the refocus on map destruction, and I hugely agree with naval vehicles. I wouldn't mind a modern warfare theme BF, but I think historic does more for the game. They have a whole list of places and eras they can use, however I think these will be later titles, late 2025 at the earliest.
If something comes out in 2024 my prediction/opinion would be what a lot are doing it seems now and that's a remastered. BFV remastered but do it correctly would be sick. Fix the last little bugs, some graphic changes but ADD TO THE GAME, add the eastern front, Russia and Italy factions, add more weapons, maps, etc. idc about the story add to it or not.there are some ideas there but not a requirement for me and I think most, it's for multi-player. ADD NAVY if possible I agree naval battles would be awesome, 3rd game mode could be that dogfight/navy battles, like Midway and battle of britan, mostly air and sea battles.
But like i said. I wouldn't be opposed to a modern 2010s style BF or a Vietnam theme.
Imagine this. Battlefield Russian Civil war. There’s so many factions that could do. The reds, the whites, Ukrainian, polish, Finnish, Caucasus, Czech Legion, Japanese Army, etc etc. sure it would a sorta battlefield 1 part 2 but barley any games cover the Russian civil war
Was super pumped for bf2042 for the longest time. Upon release never bought it.. not a fan of hero/special abilities. Honestly would love a remaster of BF3/4 or possibly a gulf/afgan setting. American, Russian and Middle East factions. Vehicle balance would be heavily unbalanced so idk how that would work. Someone mentioned “Cold war turned Hot” which would be cool

My biggest prediction: The community will not be satisfied. That is the only thing that has been constant on all the games of the last decade, save for BF1. For every release, whether a game or an update, there has been a short buzz of positivity (at best) and then it's back to negativity.
As for setting, modern is definitely the most marketable (WW1 is not, and BFV had terrible reception at reveal so no WW2), though DICE doesn't seem to like to retread ground on subsequent releases. Maybe we'll get a cold war setting, though COD:BOCW still feels fresh and it was mediocre. As for preference, I don't really have any as long as they do it well.
And why do you think that dissatisfaction exists? Perhaps it's because of the consistently misleading and bad marketing, or the fact the devs seem to not play their own game with how they keep fucking up basic balancing, or the consistent lack of content, or the terrible launch states with bugs up the wazzoo, or any number of those.

Bf1 and BF5 seem to be all time favorites , they should focus on making more surreal battlefield war maps, the pacific theater in BF5 was amazing , but with Bf2042, it seems they only care about money with the dumb seasons. And they’re still live supporting the horrible game . I would pay for dumb seasons in actual war maps , there is still potential for WW2 related maps . Everyone thought we were gonna storm the beaches on France and fight on the Frozen tundra of Russia . There is still much potential and vehicles should also be a factor . Air support in BF2042 is useless and no one seems to play them neither do tanks play on the battlefield. You can’t distinguish BF2042 from MW now and it’s ridiculous for dice to have listened to the Covid crazed society when Bf2042 was in development, they listened to the public and that’s the reason Bf2042 is awful. Worst $120 I ever spent and never played more than 30hrs on BF2042
Would love to see an early Cold War game with late ww2 early cold war tanks, so Pershing’s,is-3s, centurions, etc. not necessarily realistic but kind of a what if the Cold War kicked off early on, pre abrams vehicles I guess
I have been playing bf5 and bf1 and man, bf4 is just so much better, bf5 is unbalanced to unfun but playable status, bf1 is the gas mask any% prototype weapon insta kill, bf4 its just shoot the bad guys and help the team, i'm losing and i still have fun on bf4

I would go for a cold war/ proxy war with Korea and Vietnam being the main focus. This would be easy to have weapon assets to be from BFV that weren’t phased out in the 50s. I would like to see a return to the original class system with realistic customization. Also they need to drop the 128 player lobbys as the new standard. Unless you can fill the lobby without bots, keep only 64 or less game modes.

BFV is definitely much better designed in terms of game mechanics, I think BF1 gets more love because it just had better marketing, less dramas and more consistent atmosphere. BF1 is better as an interactive movie, BFV is better as an actual game
