When I was five, growing up in non English speaking country , I used to hear my mom play this on her CD/cassette player all the time when my dad wasn’t around. I didn’t pay much attention back then because I didn’t understand English. Now, at 20, I've rediscovered Kasey Chambers' music, and it hit me hard. I finally understand that during those years, my dad had another family, and my mom was going through so much. Her music was my moms therapeutic escape. It’s incredible how music can hold memories and emotions
This was my beautiful mothers wedding song, this song played while she was walking down the aisle. I grew up listening to this and me and my mum would sing it together. She was so in love with my dad so these lyrics were definitely so meaningful. She also loved the show Sopranos and had watched over 1000 times back to back for over 10 years. My mum recently has passed away and I can’t listen to this song without crying every time. such a beautiful song. R.I.P my gorgeous mumma💜🕊️🌻
It's funny how in the few comments I read, relate her to the Sopranos. She is a goddess of the alt-country scene in Australia, and had a pretty good hit at the American market. Kasey Chambers is effing brilliant.
as an aussie i grew up with kasey. great artist, but god dam the sapranos is amazing, but no way does it define her, she made her mark before that, thats why she ended up on it.
Yes I understand The whole deep meaning and tragedy of Kasey's song is being overlooked in this particular video and anytime it is related to this TV series.
Nice to hear I get really over hearing some say she sounds like a little kid well so do I when Im being raw she's been around a long time her music 🎵 is part of my growing experience some really intense
Yep- Sopranos brought me here. The power of an amazing series to draw attention to beautiful music is never heard of. Seen the show five times but never heard of Kasey Chambers- and I’m fkin old in internet terms.
everyone says they heard this on the sopranos, i actually heard it on Real Madrd tv.. they dedicated it to Raul before he left.. its definately fitting for both occasions tho =) amazing song!
I love the break in her voice in the first few lines…I’ll bet they considered recording it again to get it perfect…but it’s perfect as is…it makes the song so much more emotional
On Double J tonight in WA. So had to come here for another listen. Its been a long time. Songs hit different when you are older and have experienced life so much more. Not all of it good.
Bought when first released 💞This album will always have a haunting but loving place within me, always. Thankyou so much for the comfort and love that l embrace through your music that helps during the trying and lonely times. So much Love xoxo
I'd be the captain of pine Hills. You could be the queen oh well. Maybe in another life. This song really did hit home. And gets me through the hard times.
This song jsut got me a lump in my throat.. I don't get emotional but one of my brothers died a few days ago and this track just made me think of how I was in a relationship with a girl years ago and I just needed her to take charge and felt like I was never good enough for her.. So long after it was a sad break up but I have moved on since, just in the track when she says feeling like she owes it to some dude because he's the captain I kinda get that feeling..
+Kerrie Sciberras I share the same tendency, but I have an straight answer to that, although it would only be relatable if you listened to the song for the first time on The Sopranos, like I did. This is what I wrote on the other video's comment section, just to see if maybe you can relate: "Thanks to The Sopranos, I get a little bit fucked up every time I listen to this goddamned song. Not kidding. That absolute catastrophe that was the end of Trecee's life, the fact that you just know Gloria is going to get fucked right in the moment she meets Tony, and Tony ascending Ralphie cause he's a great earner, although he despises his guts for destroying a girl whose life he somehow found to be related to his own daughter... this really makes you think about the stupid decisions some women make around a certain type of men ( not that I think that women are always victims, but life does have that 50/50 thing ) They really managed to transform what maybe was a simple love song of admiration and gratitude, into a testimony of feminine vulnerability".
i love it when kasey's voice breaks a bit at about twenty seconds in the song, it sounds so sexy. the song itself for me is inseparably connected to my favourite tv show. sail the twinkling star seas of the eternal night, jimmy gandolfini, my captain. you will always have a dear place in my heart.
I'm so happy there are at least two other people who fell in love with breaking/cracking voice. It's a great song anyway but that breaking voice at "my" just makes something twinge in me

Me too, Gloria was a bit crazy but she was something special, I've had a couple of relationships with similar women.
always saw this song as a cry for help
