    I decided to slightly modify the stock exhaust of my BMW 550i F10 with the N63 engine to see if zip ties are a solution to a louder and better sounding exhaust. This mod is pretty much free as all you need is two metal zip-ties with which you will keep open the exhaust valves and thus increasing the sound and flow of the stock exhaust. This should work the same on any BMW with the N63 engine such as 550i, 650, 750 and the X5 and X6.

    It's easier to just bypass the vacuum line. The vacuum pump is located behind the paneling on the left side of the trunk. Pull off the hoses from the inlet/outlet and splice them together with a coupler. Takes about 5 minutes total and is so much easier (and cleaner) than forcing the calves open and strapping them into position

    I think I'll have to buy some. Can't have too many fasteners in the garage!

    Thank you for your videos Simple Car Guy, they have been helpful especially the one that taught me how to change my spark plugs, with your help and guidance and only took about 1 hour and was a fraction of the cost versus the dealership.
    I have a 2016 550i n63tu, and really want to do this but will it potentially cause any damage to keep the valves open all the time?

    • @SimpleCarGuy
      @SimpleCarGuy  3 года назад +2

      I've glad my video helped you change the spark plugs!
      As far as the risk on keeping these open, it is up to you. From what I have read and understand of these cars, it is there to make the car quieter on cold starts as this is a luxury car and not a sports car. It may also reduce the back pressure (a TINNYYY bit) and use a very small amount of fuel more on start up sequence.

    Hey bro I like your vids i recently bought a 2013 bmw 550i from CarMax great maintenance and well taken care of I also bought a warranty up to 125k miles to cover major repairs in case something goes wrong. How is the car reliability I plan on doing proper maintenance as well.

    • @SimpleCarGuy

      I have a video on issues to expect from these cars. Normally I recommend 2014+ for the 550 as they have fixed a lot of issues from 2013 and earlier cars, but since you got the warranty, you should be good to go! Change your oil every 5k miles!

    I still need to do mine on the E89 but its stuck and i don't want to damage the vacuum line. I might get a heat gun on it and see if that helps release it. I don't want to damage the line because i quite like the sound that the valve makes when it opens and closes when i floor it so want to be able put it back on if i don't like it off😊

    • @SimpleCarGuy
      @SimpleCarGuy  4 года назад +1

      I used a screwdriver and just gently pushed it off with the help of WD-40. Didn't take much effort at all. I plug it back in from time to time just so that I get different sound.

      Hi Sven,
      Not at all. These flaps normally get opened automatically once the car is warmed up. They more or less serve to reduce the noise on early morning cold starts since it's a luxury car and not a sports car. Thanks for watching!

    Hi I have 535xi with 110k .. any things I have to consider for this mileage? What’s the reputation of this engine after 100k?

    • @SimpleCarGuy
      @SimpleCarGuy  4 года назад +3

      As long as it's not an early 2011 car and it has been well taken care of, you should be good to go. The n55 engine is probably the best engine that came on this car, so make sure the engine wasn't overheated, no coolant or bad oil leaks. After 100k you can expect to change HPFP, Water Pump and injectors at some point. I'm not aware of other major issues.

    • @smile6868
      @smile6868 4 года назад +1

      SimpleCarGuy Thank you for reply.. you said early 2011 so I have to look at the manufacturer tag to see which half of 2011 been made? Also what’s is HPP.. No overheat nor leakage .. I am use Castro’s full synthetic high mileage do you recommend other brand/spec?

    • @SimpleCarGuy
      @SimpleCarGuy  4 года назад +2

      I meant early car in the model years, so pretty much the 2011 model year. They aren't necessary a bad car, but it's the first year for the engine so there were some issues they resolved in 2012. HPFP is high pressure fuel pump, common failure on these.
