  • So the new Swatch collaboration was revealed. This time the victim of such collab is the luxury brand from the Swatch Group portfolio - Blancpain. BlanSwatch or SwatchPain.
It could be a good collab but it’s not.
The Swatch calls it the BIOCERAMIC SCUBA FIFTY FATHOMS COLLECTION. The Fifty Fathoms is the Blancpain diver model. In fact, it was one of the first modern dive watches.
While the design revealed is not bad. The watches have a look and the design of the Blancpain diver models. In this video, I will explain why I think this is a very bad watch.
The price of the Blancpain x Swatch Fifty Fathoms Collection models is set to $400 US dollars and $500 Canadian dollars for my fellow Canadian viewers.

True. But, imagine if blink182 somehow positioned itself to own the catalogs of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Michael Jackson. Not so easy to dismiss anymore and now with a lot of ability to destroy bona fide art.

Only watch people know Blancpain and very few can afford a 10k watch, this looks great and gives the brand exposure. When the movement fails it will be cheaper to replace than a cleaning/service of most other mechanical offerings. I did not get the SpeedSwatch but it bumped Speedmaster sales reportedly 40%? I will reserve my purchase until I see how well they hold up but amagnetic, accurate and 90 hour power reserve is not bad for the listed price.

I hear this narrative a lot and while it could be true at some degree about exposure I cannot fully agree with the rest. I have had MoonSwatch for more than a year and while it's kinda fun toy it is garbage as a watch. I rarely wear it recently. Out of two of Mission to Jupiters I had both were with defects. I have big collection so I don't mind have it for fun. But if this would be my first Swiss Made watch experience I probably wouldn't buy another and settled with Apple Watch.

All, hold your horses. It's a Swatch. Swatch builds disposable watches since 1983. And to all who suggesting to buy a Timex, Citizin, or a cheap Seiko, a Swatch never intendent to replace these types of watches.

@@OneManReviews I don't own any smart watch. But I have to admit, that I'm a Swatch fan boy. My first Swatch was a 1983 model which I did wear during my Swiss Army basic training. She got a bit of beating during this time but is still ticking after 40 years. The plastic ones and especially the Irony models are perfect as daily beater watches. I never had one breaking down on me. The new bioceramic ones, I have the SO32B401-STD - ROUGE & NOIR, they are not the same as the original plastic ones, they feel different. But as I said, they are fun and nobody should take them too serios.

Swatch and Omega/Blancpain on a common mission?
As an Omega fan and owner of a Seamaster from 2016 and a new Omega GMT-OREGO, I don't find the co-operation funny at all.
I paid a lot of money for a good name, a good brand and a good product and I don't want my product to be mentioned in the same breath as Swatch watches.
In my opinion, Omega/Blancpain are voluntarily moving into the area of cheap watches and are significantly undermining the high reputation/level they have achieved over the years.
Just imagine the following: Smart builds a cheap E-Class and throws it onto the market with the Mercedes star... unimaginable.
However, Mercedes was smart enough not to directly associate the Mercedes name with the SMART brand, even though SMART belongs to Mercedes.
Another example, how would the Rolex community react if Rolex did such co-branding.
When it comes to Moonswatch/Scuba Fathomes, people are supposed to consciously buy a cheap copy of a good brand? Really now.
Co-branding can also go wrong and damage Omega/Blancpain's image, right? What’s more: is perhaps even the “big” Moonwatch becoming less interesting for real watch nerds?
Maybe this will also lead to more people buying a “real” Omega/Blancpain fake.
I also don't think anyone would buy such a knock-off in order to perhaps later upgrade to a real Omega. But we will see.
The Swatch Groupe has recently managed to get the good name of OMEGA/Blancpain into eBay classifieds/bulky waste newspaper.
There, collectors can now choose from the large selection of currently around 800 watches. This now also includes fakes from the fakes.
At least there the purchase is not limited to one watch per person.
