As a novelty I get it. At $400. It's a waste of money. It also comes off extremely hypocritical. It's a disposable watch that preaches sustainability. It's an oxymoron.

As an owner of two Blancpain am very happy with the execution the fully functional bezel and the system 51 rather than the poor man’s choice of the cheap quartz mouvement in the omega. The watch looks great and for once, we’ll be able not to service the watch but to replace the mouvement if need be. That’s already a massive plus which could justify (somehow) the price.

The Sistem51 IS 100% SERVICABLE. The movement is developed by ETA and has an excellent power reserve and acceptable accuracy. The Sistem51 movement has a maintenance-free service life of 20 years. The watch case is not made of plastic but of a combination of ceramic and resin which makes the case very robust. Blancpain wouldn’t even be alive if not for the swatch group and no matter how many people say blancpain is so good NO ONE ordinary knows them AT ALL. ALSO Tissot also sells many mechanical watches with unserviceable movements. It's not unique to this watch.

Picked a blue one up on saturday here in Melbourne. Queued at 5.15am with about 20 people in front of me. I left out of the store at around 11am. It took 6 hours to sell 20 people a “cheap” watch? How? Did they let every customer decide which color they wanted for an hour?
I mean, yes it’s overpriced. But it’s only a 400$ “want not need” item. If you want it, you’ll get it and it’s not a life affecting decisionnlike buying a car or perhaps a several thousand watch. And if 400$ is mad money for you, you really aught to be looking at a Seiko or something like that in the same price range instead, that will last you forever too🤯
Congrats on the watch! 🎉I kinda like the orange one and i do like the seaslug rotors. I like the moonswatches too, but i really didn’t see a sensible use case in getting one. I still might though😅

My take on why ‘scuba’ is part of the name is perhaps due to the early 1990’s Scuba Swatch rated at 200 meters. Recall, it is a collab. I had thought of picking up a Happy Fish (a model I had in the early ‘90’s). Then I saw this model on the swatch page! Very happy with my ‘Sea of Storms’.

I like the watch, I think it's cool, but I'm now realizing how much of my love of the MoonSwatch hinged solely on the Mission to Mars model and it's nod to the Alaska Project watch. I appreciate the "No Rad" icon and the moisture indicator, but neither are things that I'd absolutely love to have like an Alaska Project. If I lived near a Swatch boutique and at some point a few months from now popped in and they had it, I'd probably have a hard time not picking one up, but I'm not quite as pumped on it as I was the MoonSwatch. Now if they'd used the design of the old Mil-Spec ones, like the Tornek Rayville TR-900, *that* I would have been pumped on.

Every watch guy talking about the FF: Nudibranches
Scuba divers and marine biologists talking about the FF: Nudibranks
Also: Divers do not breath OXYGEN (for the most part).

I wish people would pronounce nudibranch correctly though ('noodeebraank'). It's a Nudibrancpain.

If the quality is anything similar to the Moonswatch's, these should be nicknamed Tree Fiddy Fathoms.

Much as I like the looks and spirit of them, they are essentially a piece of single use plastic. I was seriously tempted but give a few weeks and the clones versions will be about and they’ll probably have better specs (Seiko MechaQuartz, Sapphire Crystals and possibly a 316L case) for a lower price. What is service life of the System 51 movement? Probably considerably less than a MechaQuartz. The idea is a good one however with a bit more thought it could have been a brilliant one. Given the price, I’d have trouble convincing the Finance Director (Wife) that I need another watch.

I'm in. I love the idea of these throwback fun toy watches. Everything about this one is tongue in cheek and at the same time historically referential. I'll wait till the price drops on the secondary market as there is no retailer near me but man this is fun. A cheapish watch that will make the hardcore nerds crazy. What a twofor.

Great piece and rather than gloss over the Nudibranchs, you actually even took the time to pronounce their names…… one tiny thing…. The word Nudibranch is pronounced Nudi Brank…. ( I say this as I studied marine zoology and one of my professors was a world expert, even having species named after him) and he pronounced it Nudi brank…… small thing….. love your content!

Hey dude, you got one thing wrong. These watches do have a removable case back. They don't screw off but they do pop off and the movement is meant to be replaced and or serviced. Most system 51s are not built this way but I suppose they knew that enthusiasts would want something that they could maintain.

I just bought the Swatch Blancpain Fifty Fathoms X Scuba Storm of The Seas. I have a few homages of this model that are much better etc. So, why did I buy the Swatch Blancpain with the mission sistem 51 movement? With so many Swiss movement watches in my collection, it did not warrant buying The Real Deal. IMHO it is the first iconic historical diver watch that set a bar for others to follow. So, it is commemorative and I will only wear it on the very odd occasion indoors and may be outside, for fun. I am under no illusions what this watch is. I can say it is genuine, Swiss made and from the company that owns Blancpain with dimensions to the real deal that costs 20 times more! If it ever needs servicing, the module movement to be thrown away and replaced as it is not serviceable. If it were serviceable, it would cost more than the watch! There is a rationale for you!
