I was last week walking around the Spanish steps in Rome and went into the Swatch store and they had a black moonswatch and a Blancpain in white. I bought both and wear them and actually like them! I have three Rolex, a vintage Pierce moonphase, and a Patek Phillip Gondolo. Buy what you like no matter the hype.

Hamilton made some great looking field watches and chronos during WW2 and after. Problem is modern lookalikes and even some vintage models are not so expensive to buy. Brand dilution as you said.
You also don't know how to pronounce it properly. Locally it should be pronounced with more of a sh than a c. Blanshpain. Everyone gets this wrong, including Blancpain employees and French people.
