The idea that you can’t measure productivity of knowledge work is nonsense. That’s just a sign that you aren’t planning.
As soon as you break down your project into milestones with dependencies and represent them as a diagram, progress and productivity becomes evident.
The problem is none of the commercially available tools help you do this. The fact that tools to do the right thing don’t exist isn’t evidence that the right thing can’t be done. Cal’s entire thesis is about this topic is a copout.
