Diesel Injector Cleaning with Liqui-Moly Diesel Purge

- Ford Ranger 3.2 This is a quick, cheap and easy way to give your injectors a clean. Helps to quieten noisey injectors, improve fuel economy and smoother running. Obviously it can't repair badly worn or damaged injectors.
I have no affiliation with Liqui Moly.
👍At 5:30 when you are riving the engine your intake hose is expanding due to age, it will expand even more when the engine is hot and the bonnet is closed, replace both intake hoses and you will have a noticeable throttle response guaranteed. The other intake hose is from the turbo to the intercooler, I replaced mine with silicone hoses because the are much stronger and thicker.
Good eye. Now I'm gonna have to check on mine too!
Yes I noticed a huge difference when I changed mine to steel , I thought I was imagining it. You must loose some velocity when that pipe is expanding
If I may suggest putting a small fuel filter on the return line. When i looked into doing this for the first time on my Ranger a year ago I saw a few people recommended this. They showed some small black particles that the filter trapped that got loosened up by the cleaning action of the injector cleaner. And not wanting this to be fed back into the high pressure pump and injectors I fitted one. I also saw some debris caught in my filter. This may not happen if you regularly run this procedure on your vehicle but I won't take the risk.
Awsome idea. What type of filter did you use?
@@wadehughes8986 i got a small inline fuel filter used for carburettors. A clear one so i could see if any dirt got caught.
Why not just use two plastic container instead. Each hose goes to different container
@@stephenmichael3211 This is also a good thought considering the amount that comes out of return line is not big.
@@stephenmichael3211 nice :) ty everyone
Just pour it into your fuel filter when changing fuel filter and run the vehicle. Easier.
Brilliant
Thanks for that mate. Once I saw the cost of injector’s for these engines I was ahhhhh better do something. Very easy instructions . Only thing I did different was like the ppl in the comments was I went to a mower shop and got a filter just to catch any of the crap that comes out. Thanks again
Yeah that’s a good extra step
The cost at the start of the video was 20, then 25 then at the end of the video was 30. Inflation is a bitch.
But seriously, great video.
I waited till my tank was empty and threw the can in Nd drove around for 20 minutes. Engine much smoother and no more spluttering on cold starts.
Ha Ha I did't notice I said that. Liquid-moly is good stuff glad it helped smooth out your engine.
I do the same, wait untill I have less than 5L in the tank
Mate, i have the exact same ford ranger engine and love watching your videos, you have saved me $1000s, Legend! Keep them coming :)
8:38 you don’t want any of that stuff in fuel tank, because is going to lift all the dirt debris and clog your system you just cleaned. Big mistake, once you done cleaning process, you should disconnect only one pipe coming from tank and let remaining clean solution run to you tin . That way not allowing cleaner get to car tank. Done it myself, ended up replacing all injection system 😢
It’s worth noting relay 40 on a 2015 model is the brake lights. Fuel pump on a 2015 PX2 is 32, the larger relay just behind relay 40. Definitely worth checking before starting.
awesome just bought the product as i knew i wanted to use it but this is the best vid on the process. Subscribed and thank you
One concern is that you're pumping a solvent through the HP pump without the lubricity of diesel. It would be similar to using the likes of petrol and scouring the pump... I'd definitely be inclined to dilute it with more diesel than what was pumped back at startup
the liquid moly 'PURGE' is made to run through the HP pump. it feels very much like diesel - very oily compared to the additives that just go in the tank
@@killawattgarage Agree that it's made to go through the pump, however I'm assuming that would be when diluted with Diesel. The tolerance in a HP pump is so fine. I've seen cases of around 5 litres of petrol that's been mixed with 60+ litres of diesel do catastrophic damage to the pump
Hi. i enjoy your videos.
Do you specialize in the ranger and where is your workshop?
Thanks.
Thanks mate, did it tonight, the ranger is running a lot smoother, thought all these products were probably snake oil. I did use someone's suggestion, used a z4 filter from Supercheap $5 on the return line. Really appreciate the vid👍👍👍👍👍
Whats a Z4 filter and why do you run it on the return line?
@@michaelsuttner3954 you can use any inline fuel filter on the return line. Why? Because you don't want any contaminants returning into your clean Liqui Moly circulating back to the injectors. Like the man said stop before the the Liqui Moly is finished, and what is lift in the container you can put in your fuel tank.
Epic video mate. Really well explained.
You’ve convinced me to give it a shot for my rough idle.
Just wondering if there is any risk to the engine doing this?
Don't let it run dry and make sure there is no leaks afterwards and it'll be fine.
@@killawattgarage haha I think you meant don’t let it run dry
@@morasethy431 thanks i have now edited that😀
Hey mate or anyone know where pcv valve for this ranger?
Thanks for the great video, how often would you recommend doing this injector clean? At what kilometre intervals? Thanks
If you have any rough running or hesitation then go for it. I think there would be a noticeable difference after 80K even if you didn't have obvious issues. Even just in the tank is a positive step every second service.
So there are two types of fuse boxes apparently. The one in the video is type 2. Wondering if anyone knows where the fuel pump relay is in a type 1 fuse box. I found a diagram online and the fuse for the ‘fuel pump’ is in the cabin. But that’s not the same as the relay. It also shows the location for a ‘flex fuel pump/vaporizer relay’ is that the same thing? Thanks for any clarification.
Mine was no.32 in owners manual 2016 2.2
Thank you for sharing your knowledge mate. Did your vehicle run a little rough prior to the procedure. Wondering if it’s same procedure with the 3.0L PK Ranger. Cheers
Similar process..yes had a rough idle
@@killawattgarage Thank you for the reply cobber. Have you done a video on the PK.
@@tyroneclarke1666 not yet will add it to the list and make a vid when I get the chance
@@killawattgarage Thank you mate. Looking forward to the PK video 👍
Hey mate, great video tbh!!
Can I do this on my 2012 ford territory diesel v6 tdci??
Hey buddy, thanks for the vid, very handy.
I've got a 2011px1 and the fuse layout is completely different to yours. It's actually missing the fuel pump fuse that, as per the manual, should be in the engine bay.
There is one in the cabin, but as per the comments of others on here, the engine dies without that fuss inserted.
Any ideas?
Cheers
would need to double check if the 2011 has an electric pump, many early models didn't. If it doesn't have an electric pump then no fuse needs to be removed
It’s a little different for the earlier models. I’m still trying to figure it out myself. But you’ve got to go to the fuel filter an disconnect the red ones and then disconnect the blue lines and run a tube between them. It’s not as easy as it is with the 2015+ models.
What is your opinion on turbo cleaning? Dismantling it and giving it a good clean?
Good Day Sir, Kyle here from South Africa, I have a 2012 3.2 but the fuse box is not the same and the only fuse i seem to be able to find sits inside which is a 20A called Fuel Pump. I have tried to do this with that removed but the van just dies, any idea which relay might be the one to pull on my 2012. Thank you in advance.
Same here on my Mazda bt50 2012.....no R9 fuse in engine bay...
I haven't looked under the hood of my byturbo but would it be the same plumb up? by the way good video, Thanks. 👍
Similar process
On a ford ranger 2018 its fues/relay 32 .....tired 40 and diesle went eveywhere lol
Hi , was your vehicle hesitating a bit on acceleration before you did this treatment....and did this solve it. Thanks
Is it really necessary to disable the LP fuel pump to do this? Is it ok to alternatively plug the filter's HP output and return lines? That should force all fuel through the filter to go straight back to the tank via return. Am just wondering because I've tested a similar procedure on a VW TDI and found it easier to do than digging through manuals trying to figure out which fuse to pull, not to mention spill risk if the wrong fuse is pulled. But it's always super easy to identify which lines to pull at the filter and in doing so, you also know which lines to plug.
Good tip
You should use an inline filter on your feed line so you're not putting any dissolved carbon back through your injectors that is returning to your bottle from the return line.
Thanks for the tip 🙏
Put two paper inline filters in the middle of your made up fuel line hoses; one for direct and one for return; easy, and you'll see the change of colour in the return which indicates cleaning; both stopping contaminants being recirculated. 'Plastic' bottle (and non actual fuel line hoses as some use) are not good once you're at operating temperature for long, as they want to deform (could want to melt too if you left long enough); better using a glass or metal container (if you can get one with a plastic screw cap, just drill two holes for the fuel lines!).
Can you follow the process and do this for a merc E250 CDI 2011 diesel
Why don't you at least use some cheap filter when you try cleaning the injectors this way? 😜
thanks for the tip
Thanks
Thanks mate appreciate it.
Does it work on CRD's ?
Will it be effective if i put in fuel tank.
And should i change disesl filter after using purge
Put the rest in fuel filter
Excellent products for vehicle's 👌
Hey mate, I’ve just had a squiz at my engine (2012 Mazda bt50) and it’s obviously got a different set up for the fuse box, do you perhaps know what one is for the pump with this model car? Other then that everything else is same just different style fuse, thanks mate cheers!
Did you find a location for it?
Видать это никто не делает на Мерседесах
What a shame it didn't fix my rough idle
Hi friends
Once again thanks for the great content...appreciate your effort 👌
no probs
Id go one better and get a hold of the wynns diesel purge. Great video.
Thanks for the tip!
How often should we do this?
How was the engine receiving adequate fuel to run for +10 mins
Fuel consumption is pretty low without
a load
Great info, at what klms do you recommend using this clean method and also , how many klms should you do you recommend changing the injectors on 3.2s. Thank you
If you have any rough running or hesitation then go for it. I think there would be a noticeable difference after 80K even if you didn't have obvious issues. Even just in the tank is a positive step.
What is the difference between liquimoly diesel purge vs liquimoly injector cleaner for cleaning injectors?
Hi. My diesel turned black in colour after a small mix of black
Oil. How do I change the colour back to its original colour?
Thanks
No problem
Где перевод на русский?
Hi mate. What size hoses did you use? Thanks
5/16 and 1/4 or 8mm and 6.5mm
????? I watched the video and couldn't understand what pushes fuel to the high-pressure pump because the pump doesn't suck. I tried it and it didn't work as soon as I disconnected the fuel supply line the engine didn't start. I tried even to connect the relay back and close the hole but with the same result. Kia Sorento diesel 2.2L.
Same result here
awesome tutorial 👌😀🙏
Thank you! Cheers!
Cold start or after warm up?
Warm but not hot
That's a great video, well done, very instructive.
Thank you very much!
Can you do rocker cover gasket replacement?
Thanks Champion a job for tomorrow, Does it improve the fuel economy at all ?
I didn't notice a significant difference in economy. much smoother running.
Steve, do you use other Liqui Moly products ?👍🇦🇺🦘
