I have been watching various tutorials/demonstrations all morning. Some stretched on FOREVER and I still felt I didn't have a handle on how the loom works. Yours was the clearest video so far and did it in 10 minutes. Thank you!
I took a riddle weaving class several months ago and am just now getting my new loom out of the box so I couldn't remember how to get started. Thanks for a GREAT video to refresh my mind and get me started on my first project on my own!
Loved this video. You mentioned you "might need a friend to help" when you wind the warp (to keep decent tension on the warp when you wind) This is one of the biggest challenges in the process; keeping the tension right without asking someone to help. I searched the Internet for a solution to this issue, but never found anything. So, I came up with the "Solo Warper" and my partner built it for me. Now I have no issues with winding. Works perfectly on any warp length. Instead of using a warping peg that attaches to a table (and can slip off at the worst times possible,) you simply place the Solo where you want the warp to end, (no table or clamps needed,) loop the warp ends on the main peg, secure it with a cross dowel when you're finished and then start winding. The Solo has wheel brakes that you can adjust, to keep the right tension on regular floors or carpet. Wind until the main dowel touches the outside of the loom (which is the perfect length to leave for threading), cut the yarn and then thread the heddles. Winding the warp took a fraction of the time with perfect tension and, more importantly, no 'yarn accidents that take hours to untangle.' Finally, a solution for solo weavers.....
@@bella-bee Thank you, I was looking for an answer to my dilemma of warping on my own! I'm presuming you don't cut it off the peg to keep the tension whilst moving loom up to the peg?
Thank you Kate for explaining this process in an easy and concise manner. This will be my “go-to” video for warping my Ashford RH loom. I have completed my first sampler and wish to weave something more useful.
Thankyou for demonstrating this. I have first started just making a mug rug using a handmade cardboard loom. Then I remembered I had a knitting loom that doubled as a frame loom or tapestry loom. As a child I had a toy heddle loom that I really enjoyed making little things with. I think I would very much like to have a heddle loom. my husband will have his teaching certificate by September and already has a position available so I’m looking forward to purchasing one then. But I’m having fun learning on the 28” tapestry loom at the moment. I have the bug for sure
Excellent demonstration. I built a 12x14 loom and was looking for info on adding a heddle and how it would work, and your video answered lots of questions. Many thanks.
I have been wanting to get into weaving & spinning since I was a kid, I have been doing allot of research on it for the past few years & I am all but financially ready to get started & this video was so helpful I thank you so much for doing this video.
I just got my 24 inch Ashford RHL and I am so excited. Earlier in the year, I bought a used RHL (not an Ashford) to see if I really liked weaving. I did but I had issues with the other loom. I have been saving up and finally dove into the deep end and made my purchase! I love the side rollers! So much better than my vintage Beka.
Love your explanation. Was just lent a rigid heddle today with beautiful threads. I look forward to getting to set it up on Wednesday with my daughter.
This is *great*. The explanation was very clear, and the technique of getting the tension even among all the knotted one inch groups is much simpler than what I was doing. Thank you!
Oh my goodness thanks so much for this!! I have had a loom like this since childhood and have never really used it because I had no idea how. I kept it for years and years and now I can actually warp it and weave on it!! Amazing!!!
Thank you, Ashford crew! I have 24" Ashford RH loom and weave once in a while. Your video is very helpful and I liked the tip on tying the ends to the front beam with the string. Will try it for sure. I noticed that I do have tension problems if I warp my loom for wide cloth myself.
I just received my Ashford 32" your video is the best one so far I've come across to set up my loom. I can't wait to try it out but I'm having Hubby stain it first then assemble it. BTW the music doesn't bother me for you are doing a great job just watching you...Thank You!!!
I am thinking about a table top type loom and you have made the instructions so easy to understand I think I will be able to forgo the hefty fee for a class. You were very clear in your instruction and went slowly enough for a newbie to follow along. Your explanations as to why you were doing each step was very helpful. You have made something that seemed very complicated, very easy. Thank you very much.
Fantastic video!! I've watched 4 so far just trying to figure the warping process and this was by far the most clear, best visually for detail, concise and precise tutorial. I've got a Kromski that came with no instructions at all (despite their video that claims it comes with a DVD).

Hi Nic, Yes it really is that easy to set up and start. You can even go further than the standard plain weave and add a double heddle kit and make blankets twice as wide as your loom.
Great Informative Video. My daughter questioned me 'How hand loom Works ?' This cleared all her doubts and gave her delight of knowing the method of weaving.
Thank you for this! I just got this loom yesterday (minus the heddle hook), and I'm looking forward to my first project. Your video makes it look fairly easy. I've done only narrow weave so far.
