I really love this video. Your voice calms me when I'm feeling so intimidated about tying a warp to a raddle. Thank you for making this clear, informative video!!
Thank you Kate. You explain everything so well without unnecessary fuss or a running commentary on how marvellous life is :-) Your instructions are clear and so calm and you give just enough background to explain why something is necessary. The best videos on warping that I've found.
I just bought an Ashford 32" table loom and was considering a direct warp, which I usually do with my rigid heddle because I am all thumbs when it comes to warping. This demonstration -- all three parts -- looked like a lot of extra work. But the more I watched it, the more it became clear to me that these extra "safety first" steps are very useful and will alleviate some of the problems I have warping ANY loom. Glad I saved these to favorites so that I can refer back to them. Thanks.
I wanted to return to this two weeks later. I finished the sampler I wrote about in my last comment, and it looks nice (except I should have used yarn in more contrasting colors). Then I did another sampler using patterns in *A Weaver's Book of 8-Shaft Patterns." Now I am finally using $12.50/skein yarn, and I just wanted to say the process gets easier and easier. Putting the yarn on the raddle took about an hour the second time I tried; now, the fifth time, it took less than a minute. I never did do the tea towel: what I want right now are scarves to give as gifts, yeah.
Such a super helpful video. Thank you. Four of my cross threads got messed up, but everything is wound on, and I think I can correct as all else are properly placed. Fingers crossed.
This is such a good description of warping on your own. I shall be giving your methods Particularly the helping hands a try later today when I finish winding my warp. :-)
Dear ReunionNZ, I am not sure what you have done wrong but I am guessing if you are using wool it has a lot more stretch in it and you must be very careful to keep your warp at the same consistent tension when winding. We also have flip book tutorials on our website: Home page - tutorials - weaving flip books - Learn to Weave on the table loom (sorry I can't put a link in this comments field) I hope this is helpful. Kind regards, Kate
Watching this made it so much easier working with a table loom as I have had a floor loom for 10 years. I sold it and I am going to buy a Ashford Table loom 8shaft 32" . Was wondering how many yards can you wind on a table loom
Hi thank you so much for answering my comment/question, yes I am using wool, I was being very careful with tension but I guess not lol I guess I need lots of practice at warping the frame , Yes I got The Ashford Book of Weaving for the Four Shaft Loom as well as the Learning to Weave by Deborah Chandler both great books. I will pop on to the Ashford site and have a look at the tutorials. Again Thank you for answering me. Take Care Stay Safe Bebe
Hello Kate I enjoyed watching your video on warping. Could you please help ,the riddle pin you used (the long stick with spacing pins ) how long is the stick and what is the space in between each metal pin. It make life a little easier when warping. I am learning on an old Weavmaster 4 shaft loom. Thanks Elaine
Hi Kate. I have a warping question. On your demo you mentioned "don't worry about the threads between the raddle cross and the end pick because they tend to get a little messy. Is that also true between the beginning peg and the thread cross, or do all the threads need to be going in the same direction (no threads crossed between the thread cross and the start peg). I have accidently crossed some of them in the beginning. Do I need to remove the warp and begin again??
Merci Kate pour ce vidéo. Est-ce que vous pourriez faire un vidéo avec un plus gros travail. Je n'arrive pas à réussir lorsque je fais un gros travail.
I love these videos, thank you! They are interesting, and thorough. A friend found me a table loom, in working order, at a free store. It isn't in my hands yet, so I'm not sure the make. I'm looking forward to having it, so that I can learn this. I may have questions... :)
Can I add more heddels when I have startet the " haddeling" process? I have miskalculated... I have a 60 cm ashford tableloom, just starting to weave on it.
It isn't essential. Personal preference. Saves you having to count all the bits going into the raddle because you've already done it. I just do the counting at the raddle stage rather than during the warp winding. You count either way!
Kate, you always make it look so easy :) What are those ring clips actually called? I’ve googled ring clips, clip rings, warp stick ring clips etc. etc. without success. Nor can I find them on weaving supplies websites :(
Just one question at this stage anyway lol I have just brought a table top loom not sure of make, has no instruction booklet but I am using wool, now I have followed your instruction and and Im now at the threading cross stage and all the threads are different lengths can you tell me what I have done wrong. ?
Women have made this way to complicated. I'm not going to pay a $1000.00 for a loom that doesn't provide all the gagits needed to warp it. I bet I could design a much simpler loom.
Ernest Wilson Go right ahead! My loom was a 16-shaft table loom for $900. I built me own reddle from a 1x2 strip board and some finishing nails. I also made my own warping board from some more strip board, a dowel, and glue. However, the loom is the best design possible. Any attempt to make another would fail due to lack of supply AND demand. I hope you succeed in making a table loom yourself, but please keep in mind the current design has been perfected over thousands of years. Btw when I got my loom I was an 11yo boy. Not a woman.
If you are building from photos and don't have access to a loom, let me know so I can give you closeup photos and videos of certain parts that aren't normally shown, and so that I can give you my email.
Wonderfully clear, no fuss, no drama, and getting right down to business with no time wasted. Excellent video, well done!

Thank you for this! I just successfully warped my loom for the first time....could not have done it without you
Brilliant - thank you so much. I am now looking forward to dressing my loom with these straight forward instructions!😀

I really appreciate the ashford instructional videos. I enjoyed your use of 'safety first' because it's a good reminder.
@Meriamen Hi, Yes warping your Inkle loom is schedule for about 3 weeks time, if you can wait. Thanks.
very simple techtique and beautifully stepwise explained well. A BIG HELP THANK YOU

I'm assuming it's not possible to direct warp? Wonderful video, thank you!
Hello, how are you doing today?
Give it a try following her instructions. It isn't as hard as you may think!
@@bettieshea278 hello how are you doing today ?
How many metres can the table loom weave? Doesn’t seem to have much space at the cloth beam and warp beam.
you are a good teacher so inspiring.
I love watching your videos! But I about spit out my drink when you said, "As long as there aren't any cats around..." LOL
"as long as there's no cats around you'll be right" lol. I've found my cats sitting on my weaving many times 😀😀

Can I add more heddels when I have startet the " haddeling" process? I have miskalculated... I have a 60 cm ashford tableloom, just starting to weave on it.
Look up "repair heddles." You can make them yourself.
How many yards of warp length can you fit onto the back beam?
This is titled Part 1-- is there going to be a Part 2?
I just got my 1st. table loom (8 shafts) and I’m beginning to learn. So: do you always have to cross twice? In some videos they cross only once
It isn't essential. Personal preference. Saves you having to count all the bits going into the raddle because you've already done it. I just do the counting at the raddle stage rather than during the warp winding. You count either way!

How do I get a tear this model, because I live in Brazil.
Does anyone warp their rigid heddle from the warping board or is the yarn always removed first? Trying to warp my 24” rigid with wool.

Hello , how much cost a loom like dis? Thanks
iuliana gonzalez The cheapest is around 400$, but it’s still so much cheaper than any floor loom.
What kind of table loom is this one?
I keep getting ten strands of Yarn on one cross and five on the other. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong

Not really. Weaving is a serious craft, one of the world's oldest.
