Title caught my attention as friend who is a wonderful weaver told me about pick up sticks. Started watching and saw it was Hill Country weavers and I smiled. I use to live in Austin and LOVED your shop. Friend I was talking about, I met in Austin and we always visited your shop. Great memories. Ok, now have to rewind since missing instructions.🤣

You are articulate and easy to understand. You made it very clear how to use the pick up stick. Thank you. I will refer to this again.

I'm not sure why you would pull the pick-up stick clise to the heddle but keep it flat. How does that change the shed?

Great video. My one question is, when you bring the pattern stuck forward and leave it flat, what does that do? I understand when you pull it forward and turn it on its side it lifts the pattern threads. I just can't tell what it does when you leave it flat.

It adds some of the down threads to the up shed threads. When the stick is flat behind the heddle on the up shed, the thread passes under extra threads which gives bars of warp thread, when it is raised behind the heddle in neutral position, you are passing under fewer threads down threads which gives bars of weft thread. This is on the right side. The reverse is happening on the back making it a two sided pattern. Where you are going under fewer threads on the right side, you are going over extra ones on the back and vice versa. Where you have warp bars on the front, you have weft ones on the back.
Good video, well explained. My only comment would be that the neutral coloured, slightly textured thread makes it hard to see what is happening which is why this question was asked.

I can see WHAT to do (sort of) but not the difference between with/without the pickup stick. It seems like it still brings the same as the down shed. Please help me to understand what's happening that's different.

please show the written pattern, that would help to learn how to read a pattern, and to understand what it means.tx.
