  • Weaving a 4-shaft herringbone twill on a Kromski Harp rigid heddle loom using dowels.
    I mixed up slots and holes at the start, so just to make it clear: the warp threads only go through the slots, not the holes.

    This took me a year to build up the courage to try and a week to get set up properly on my loom, but now I've got it going and I LOVE the results I am seeing. I made a youtube short that just really quickly shows the rundown of how to set up the 4 shaft weaving like this, but I want to do a more indepth video for people who were wanting to learn. This is so cool. Thank you so much for inspiring me!

    I had no idea that 4 shaft could be done this way. You’ve just saved me hundreds of pounds as I really wanted to try a 4-shaft and all I have is the Kromski Harp

    Wonderful! I'm in the process of setting up my own Ashford 24-inch rigid heddle loom using this same twill 1/2-2/3-3/4-1/4 threading on the string heddles. It will be the first time I've woven anything other than tabby weave, and I'm very excited to learn twill. One fine day I might get a table loom, but until that day comes, I'm enjoying what I have.
    Many thanks for this demo! 😄

    This is brilliant. I love it because it saves $ for extra heddles and can be done on any RH

    Absolutely brilliant! Such a beautiful pattern. I'm struggling try to understand
    double weaving. I can't image 4 shaft weaving on a rigid heddle loom. You
    are the first on Ytube which I've seen using the Kromski Harp 24". I also own
    that same loom.

    Surely you mean the warps go just through the slots, not in the holes? You said the other way round, but with warps in the holes you won’t be able to raise the heddle rods.

    • @pamyclark1263
      @pamyclark1263 6 месяцев назад

      On the heddle the warp only goes through the holes. The front heddle is typically set up this way as the upshed in the weaving pattern.

      So, how is this begun? I am not sure just how to get the weaving started. I need to spread the warp. How is that done and what do you do if your warps do not raise up to make a shed or will they raise after the warp is spread.

      @@barbararickman8543 I am new at this but I found this video that helped a bit too. ruclips.net/video/wAsioJ-5atQ/видео.html There are more out there that will help with other parts of this. One being the outside strand sometimes needs to be added by hand. Good luck.

      I did see the video you posted and asked her the same question. Was wondering how you begin the weaving AFTER the threading of the rods is finished. I need to spread the warp. She said to use cardboard but I don't have any of that. Will use a piece of wood to get the warp spread. The videos are incomplete when you don't say how to start the weaving after the rods are strung.

      @@barbararickman8543 You can use waste yarn too. Other people use that in their videos. I agree I have to find different videos to fill in the blanks. Hope this helps.

    Could you also use pick up sticks or would that disrupt the pattern?

    I love this idea...If I have two heddles, could I use both and then two dowels? Im just trying to conceptually work it out in my head.

    I'm planning a weaving project using a second hand large beading loom and string heddles similar to this. Why did you leave the rigid heddle in place? Is it helpful in some way?

    • @deanofservice6120
      @deanofservice6120 3 года назад +2

      It cuts down the the range of motion of the warp threads from side-to-side and up-and-down to just up-and-down. The warp threads stay in their own slot position and you don't have to worry about them that way. Also, the heddle is also your reed ( or beater) on a rigid heddle loom.

    If you had created actual string heddles that have eyes, I think you would not have to tug upward as hard. Otherwise great job

    Hi, this video starts at a decent volume but shortly thereafter goes so quiet i can't hear the instructions. Very hard to follow for one trying to learn how to do an actual conversion from 4 shaft to rigid heddle. Positions are everything as you know, but if i can't hear it....
