    Have you calibrated your PH probe recently? Also try comparing it to another probe. I had the same issue in the past and calibrated my probe only to get the same results. When I tried another probe and calibrated it Tada!!! PH back where I expected it to be. Just a thought great videos...keep up the great work😁

      Hey bud! I have calibrated the PH probe. It was odd that when I calibrated it, it still showed me the same results. So either, it stayed consistent with no issues or it is faulty. But you did read my mind. I have ordered some Milwaukee PH probes to test with.

    I change from co2 scrubber to kwalk . Found co2 scrubber only help little bit , but not as good as kwalk stirrer . Strangely enough ,my new skimmer made the biggest difference, I think simply because my maxspect duo skimmer has a recirculation mode on duel pump intake .
    But definitely find it beneficial to run kwalk .
    Have good Christmas

    • @queencityreefs
      @queencityreefs  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the feedback. I very much consider the Duo too. Dual intake to me means cleaner water. The only reason I didn't was because of possible difficulty in cleaning it. I love that I can just unscrew the pump and dump it in citric water to clean. Have you gotten around to having it to clean it yet?

    I'm having the same issues with my C02 circulating scrubber. Worked great for a week or 2. Never the same results. Always chasing numbers. Tempted to even ditch the entire setup as the .8-1.0 g bringing it to 7.9- 8.01, just doesn't seem worth the Media cost. Good video

    So, I added that pond air pump I had mentioned on a previous comment, and I think I have been getting a bit more positive momentum with my pH. My new air pump runs constantly, but my pH now swings from 7.95-8.2 using my scrubber. I did notice that the soda lime that we both use actually changes colors compared to the IceCap garbage I previously bought.

    • @queencityreefs
      @queencityreefs  Год назад

      That's great news! Does it swing between day and night?
      Yes I love this co2 media. It shows you that it works as intended and very cost effective at an average of $13 a month.

      @@queencityreefs peak daytime pH gets to about 8.2. Nighttime has been bottoming out at 7.9ish. Yeah it’s strange having media that you pay for actually work. Haha. I have a jar of water in between the air pump and skimmer, and I’ve noticed it slows down its usage

  • @omar15911

    Kalk alone is enough to raise ph at a reasonable range vs co2 scrubber which is not really needed. I personally use kalk and co2 which keeps my ph stable at 8.7 and my corals seem to enjoy/grow faster with it, but could also be from other things in the tank. Recirculating is definitely the best/cheapest way to use co2 media and having a moisture trap is a must in the setup. For the moisture trap you can use a canister filter like the one for making rodi for $25 and fill it with sponge filters. You can also use a plastic cylinder type shape container and add tubes from the top for cheaper but I find the canister to be easier to clean. The ice cap scrubber is trash since you can’t take it apart and clean the bottom well and just how it’s setup doesn’t really work well. If you go to Amazon you can get the 10 inch whole home filter for $45 vs the same thing on brs for $130. So it’s most likely user error on why your scrubber is not working well because it allows moisture to build up in the same area where the media is causing it to get wet and not work well.

    • @queencityreefs
      @queencityreefs  Год назад

      The media getting wet was due to co2 recirculating. Definitely user error on not putting a moisture trap but definitely didn't want more gear. So i stopped using it as a recirculating scrubber and ran it normally. So I don't get moisture trapped anymore. The media doesn't get wet anymore and I find it to be more effective this way. But I personally don't see the need of running both scrubber and kalk.
      I'm amazed that you're able to get 8.7 ph with both. What type of corals do you keep under that condition?

    • @queencityreefs
      @queencityreefs  Год назад

      Oh, and cleaning it isn't a chore. I pretty much just spray it with tap water and let it air dry for 2 days. Works but a pain when I didn't have the kalk to keep the ph up. Not hard but they could have designed it better.

    Do you recirculate the co2 scrubber? I re-circulate mine with my skimmer, and i get 8.1-8.3 each day. No windows open (it's -40 degrees here now.. lol). It makes the media last a lot longer, and it seems to do so much better.

      There's a comment where someone gives a great suggestion about what can be used to trap that moisture. I've heard of it be done and work wonders but just another item to service. Not hard but I love kalk so I opted not to and go back to using the scrubber normally. Thanks for watching!

    Have you tried to get ur skimmer giving fresh air directly from out doors or just adding oxygen stone after or in macro algae part , since algae just like coral take up oxygen and produce co2 the more cheto u have the more nutrients u pull out but more co2 is discharged in the water. I dont have a system of my own yet 😅 but just asking if you have tried it

    • @queencityreefs
      @queencityreefs  Год назад

      I have. I didn't make much of a difference. I'm thinking it was due to the length of airline in order to be able to get the other end to fresh air.

      Hi John 👋🏻
      I did try that. For me, it didn't help as muchas the co2 scrubber did. Not sure if it was due to the line that was ran outside was long and that may have made it ineffective. Thanks for asking though.

    Your co2 scrubber is losing effectiveness is it because now you are using bulk soda lime instead of the bulk reef supply co2 media? May be the media makes a difference? In any case, my ph was 7.7 before i installed my co2 scrubber and i could only get it to max 8.0 instead of 8.2 like yours. I guess skimmer and other things also play a part.

    • @queencityreefs
      @queencityreefs  Год назад

      I'm certain other things play a part. I can say that I continue to use the bulk soda lime and for the Last few months, it has been working great. I get 8.2 to 8.3. Then the kalkwasser does the rest. It sits at 8.4 to 8.5 now
