    Nice video. Very helpful. To answer your question about equipment cleaning... To clean equipment I use a combination of IP65 connectors on mains cables (skimmer for example). For pumps I try to plan enough slack in so I can lift them to the floor in front of the tank and clean them right there while still attached.

    You can recirculate the air through your protein skimmer and co2 reactor and get higher ph and make the media last much longer. BRS has videos on how to do this, as does Reef Dudes too.

    Yep, reusable zip ties, or velcro straps, however just cable management where they all come down from the display tank to extension or controller board 1 or 2 then easy . Also I usually take the impeller and cage for return pump to sink and clean it. Also the red sea 25 has a discount on cord at the top end so easy to take the whole pump to sink to clean. The skier maxspect jump I have enough cable to tank out the front disassemble and just clea the body of skimmer cup in sink the pump, just take a some container of water to tank and toothbrush and clean the impeller there easy. Great video just subscribed 👍

    On the point of cable management. Coming from a master of the craft...
    You are correct. Cable ties are just problematic and should always be avoided. Velcro is better and can play a role but as a general rule it should also be avoided. Anything that makes it difficult to trace a cable or to remove a cable is no longer cable management and is simply aesthetic cleanup. You are in fact better off leaving the wires loosely hanging, but that's not cable management either.
    So, what is cable management? The goals should be well organized, easy to service and hidden from view.
    You need cable raceways (wire ducts). You need to consider cable management on the horizontal and vertical planes seperately. You need to really understand where your cross over points are.
    Plan multiple paths and then group similarly routed equipment into dedicated channels. Don't try to stuff 25 wires into a single channel. Instead have 5 channels running in parallel with 5 wires in each. That may be a bit extreme but it makes the point.
    One place that Velcro can be used is for vertical cable stress release. It needs to be secured to the cable raceway and allow for quick release. It's not for aesthetics but it can take the weight off the corners of the cable raceways.
    Expect to spend some real money doing this right. The stuff the pros use isn't cheap. There are less expensive versions of cable raceways and for our hobby they should suffice.
    Here's a pro tip. You may need to cut wires and build some custom length adapters. The hardest aspect of good cable management is dealing with cables that are too short or too long. Too short is obvious as they are not long enough to be routed through the optimal path. Too long is less obvious but dealing with excess wire is a real pain. I have put new plugs on all of my equipment (easy) and adjusted the length of many of the dc wires (harder).
    Search RUclips for control cabinet building. Then picture your space as an exposed control pannel.

    I bought the most ridiculous cheap CO2 scrubber that exists. Its a plastic mason jar converted into an airfilter filled with aerospheres (they are not spheres but rods). Ph went from 8.0 to 8.2 overnight. It works and its not expensive. I test morning and evening and 8.2 is all I get now. However, there is nothing yet to photosynthesize nor a calcium reactor. If I can keep it 8.0 to 8.1 when everything is turning and living I will be happy. A constant 7.9 to 8.0 in my last aquarium was the best I could get, however, that did not stop the SPS from overgrowing the aquarium. Once I stopped chasing parameters and just let it be, everything adjusted and grew happily.

    Have you tried recycling the air from the skimmer to see if it improves your consumption? I.E. running the intake of the cO2 scrubber from the lid on the skimmer this is supposed to help with moisture content and help with the fact the air will have already been scrubbed before entering the skimmer.

  • @mrplumsak
    @mrplumsak 6 месяцев назад +1

    You may have figured this out already, but the thumb screws keep the room air from mixing into the already “scrubbed” air. Is isn’t just to keep water out.

    Have you tried to get ur skimmer giving fresh air directly from out doors or just adding oxygen stone after or in macro algae part , since algae just like coral take up oxygen and produce co2 the more cheto u have the more nutrients u pull out but more co2 is discharged in the water. I dont have a system of my own yet 😅 but just asking if you have tried it

    • @queencityreefs

      @@queencityreefs I see people running them on timers and I’m just wondering if it’s only to keep it up during the night or if I can just plug the tube directly into the skimmer intake and run it 24/7. Brs also confused me with the y splitter tube + solenoid. I assume they just want more control of it. I also do not run an apex to see ph in real time. Is it a good idea for me to try?

    • @queencityreefs
      @queencityreefs  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, so some do it only at night to keep the ph conistently the same at night to match the day. The solenoid is used for when the ph is getting too high, then it opens up to drag air from outside and bypassing the scrubber so the ph doesn't go any higher. You won't know if it gets too high, until you are trying it. Mine got up to 8.5.
      I have ran it at night and 24/7 and noticed no difference. Up to you. Just monitor your tank and the corals and see how they like it.
