    Man I am an X-men fanboy. Love this series. But honestly the timeline is wack haha. They all stay in their 30s from 62 to 92? They couldn't use prosthetics or something? Then a few years later Fassbender turns into McKellen... There is even some fan speculation that none of them are in continuity with each other since they did a poor job with interconnection. Even Days of Future Past, Wolverine has his adamantium claws back even though they were removed on The Wolverine. You actually have to use fan theories for some of the things to work, "Magneto helped Wolverine out." or "Prof X has a twin that he put his mind into, that's how he is still alive" etc. But I have to say some of these films are all time classics. X-men, X2, Deadpool 1 and 2, First Class. Days and Logan are maybe the 2 best comic movies of all time imo. And Legion was awesome. Crazy and psychedelic way to look at mental illness. It was honestly what I wanted Moon Knight to be even though I did enjoy that too. And I don't think we will ever have better casting than Wolverine and Deadpool and both versions of Magneto and Prof X. Well all 3 Prof X's. The guy they got for him on Legion was very good as well.

      Great comments! Yeah, I could do an hour long video on all of the continuity issues in the X-men movies. It's so bizarre how the writers just couldn't find it in themselves to tell a connected story w/o continually faceplanting in the process. But all that said, yes, several of the movies were amazing. I agree, Logan and DoFP are the best and would rank near the top of list list of all superhero movies. And I really did like X2 and the two Deadpool's as well. Plus, Legion was just insane. I would start with something not canon to the mcu like blade, the gifted, or agents of shield. That way you can test the waters. All of these shows don’t have any extreme commitment and they are pretty solid. That’s what I did with my mom she was overwhelmed with the state of marvel and thought she had to watch everything to get the picture which intimidated her to start so we just watched blade and the X-men movies together and are currently watching the gifted and will start the mcu soon starting with. I’m thinking of watching it release order until civil war where we first meet Spider-Man then watching the previous versions then continuing. Then once we reach the end of phase 3 take a detour and watch the Netflix’s squad then return back.

    I remember an interview when the shows are ended, that said both series The gifted and legion are part of the X-men timeline after Days of future past altered timeline, Legion established in the past (1990s) and the Gifted in present days (2017). I can tell you is true because I worked with marvel Latin America doing some conferences and they said the same. Another interview said that all new X-Men movies and Tv shows are in the new altered timeline created after days of future past.
    Some proof is that on Legion there’s a mention the events of Dark Phoenix when Jean Gray fight the x-men in the town and kills Mystique, other is the Bombay change name to Mumbai that was in 1995 and there’s a conversation about that in the show, so it have sense.

    In LEGION, they reference the Red Hook Incident, which happens in the Dark Pheonix, and the guy who wrote/directed Dark Pheonix, is the producer of LEGION.
    LEGION takes place after Dark Pheonix, as it features subtle hologram technology outside of his head world, which was present in the original X-Men movie timeline as well.
    That, mixed with the varied fashion and the levels of tech, would place the show's main events during the mid 2000s (when retro fashion was back in style). The state of human/mutant affairs also lines up well enough what we see at the end of Dark Pheonix.
    Don't forget that David time travels. So, that can make things more confusing.

    • @AbitofEverything4U
      @AbitofEverything4U  Год назад +3

      Yeah, that Legion series is a tough one to pin down. It would be surprising if Legion is be set in the Dark Phoenix timeline, as there were a ton of quotes included in the video from the producers saying that it is it's own thing and not tied to the X-men timeline. Plus, if it was during that timeline, it would be hard to explain why Professor X doesn't help him in the 90's timeframe (versus only in the past). And the Professor X that does finally appear has a totally different backstory than the Professor X in the movies.
      I've heard a rumor that the "incident at Red Hook" could be relationed to the cult-ish tragedy story by H. P. Lovecraft titled "The Horror at Red Hook." Regardless, it seems very hard to imagine Legion is happening in the revised X-Men timeline. But just my take on it. They really do make it hard to figure out. Anyway, thanks so much for watching the vid and sharing your theories. Really appreciate it!

    It would actually be easy to "fix" the timeline. The biggest problem with the timeline is First Class, which creates most of the inconsistencies (although these are largely explainable). We can think that by modifying the past in DoFP, they have created fractures in the course of time and that therefore First Class is the new past of the post-DoFP timeline. So if we want we can put Legion in the original Timeline.
    For post-DoFP issues I keep this rule in mind and also add that Deadpool is set in the late 80s/early 90s (Always strange, but Deadpool himself says that the timeline is messed up), so the new timeline would be:
    - 1962: First Class
    - 1973: DoFP
    - 1983: Apocalypse
    - late 80s/90s: Deadpool
    - 2018: The New Mutants
    - 2029: Logan
    After which 2 ramifications take place. The first is caused by the fact that Deadpool faces death in this film, also thanks to the fact that he knows that Wolverine will die in the future. The second is due to Cable's time travel. Dark Phoenix has inconsistencies with Apocalypse precisely because of the time travel. In doing so, the birthdates of some X-Men are also slipped (for this reason they are still young in DP). The new timeline would be:
    - 1991: Deadpool 2
    - 1992: Dark Phoenix
    - 1992: Deadpool 2 Post Credits
    Deadpool travels through time causing ramifications:
    - Timeless: Deadpool 3

    The Legion and the Gifted have always felt like separate universes. What's more, the official guides to the Marvel Multiverse also list them in other universes NOT related to the main X-Men franchise. The panel's moderator, Entertainment Weekly's Tim Stack, asked where The Gifted fits in the X-Men universe. "One of the great favors that Days of Future Past did for all of us is establish that there are many streams," "One answer is that we exist in one of those streams. This is its own universe, we don't exist in the same timeline as any specific movie or comics. But there are shared characters. We're doing our own thing, and, as I say, there are many streams."

    • @AbitofEverything4U
      @AbitofEverything4U  Год назад +3

      Yes, Legion is definitely in it's own universe for sure. Gifted is murkier. I did include in the video the quote you mention in your comment, but other quotes seem to indicate that Gifted is in the original timeline such as this one:
      Matt Nix said, "I was just the guy that came in with the best idea for staying out of the way of the movies, which was, 'Hey, remember in Days of Future Past how they go back in time and then there's an anti-mutant dystopia in the future and then in this time, it looks like our time?'"
      Using that era as the setting for The Gifted meant that nothing that happened would affect the movies: "Just give me the years in between, and then my show will get erased, it doesn't matter," said Nix. "It doesn't touch your movie timeline, because it's the timeline you erased. So just give me that, and then I'll do that, and I'll sort of show how mutants came to be oppressed, and then I can stay out of the way of the movies."
      That's part of the frustration of the X-verse...if you read three different quotes they are saying three different things. Sigh. But either way, it seems to fit nicely in the original timeline, so I personally like it there. Thanks so much for watching the vid and sharing your thoughts. Really appreciate it!

    Not watched gifted yet and am working my way through legion. I'm going on the theory that mutants themselves as a concept cause the multiverse to get a bit tangled. Random people popping up with varying degrees of reality warping abilities including time travel, travel into other dimensions and messing with physics is a recipe for chaos.
    I would like to see how they would affect a world like the MCU where there are beings like the gods, sorcerers and Celestials seeing humans randomly developing abilities that threaten the fabric of reality and how they respond. Legion seems to exist in it's own reality from what I can tell, though would love to see David Haller appear as a powerful multiversal being akin to the Scarlet Witch or the Watcher.
    The idea that humans aren't just evolving into a slightly stronger creature but into cosmic horrors is interesting to me.

    Interesting. As it seems to me, the X-Men franchise is far less strict with the continuity requirements than the MCU, but in turn it's way less demanding to the author as well. Many creation teams just don't sweat about it, doing their thing, making a story of their own. Sometimes they link it back to the movies, but the bar is so low now, that it takes a really big amount of BS to write a title out of the timeline. It could all remain in a single continuity, of course, but it's not a necessity like it is with the MCU. We just know it happened, doesn't matter in what way.
    And, what they meant by a "stream" back there is what we call "a branch" now, I wager. A branch, a string, a world line, a parallel reality, a universe, so on. A lot of synonyms, huh

    • @AbitofEverything4U
      @AbitofEverything4U  Год назад +3

      Yes, I did find some of the quotes very interesting. The idea of making a $200M TV serial by connecting each movie does have its drawbacks. I think Feige perfected it, but there are benefits to staying disconnected. What then becomes so tough is when they do decide to make a connection and yet they mess even that one connection up. It's like, either don't try to connect them or connect them correctly. The X-Verse never seemed to do any connections right. So bizarre. And yea, it seems there were a ton of terms for what we now call branch. I just found it so strange that they didn't land on their own terminology and instead seemed to make a new word up each time they went to an interview. But yeah, I had alot of fun researching all of that and getting some of the backstory. Wild stuff!

    To me, the Deadpool movies have always been part of the timeline. If anything, the biggest thing disproving it isn't even the cameo from the X-Men in Deadpool 2, I'd say it's the fact that Colossus looks totally different. But to me, there's no doubt they're in the same universe and will probably be reasurred once Deadpool 3 comes out.
    I feel like the "not tethered" part of the New Mutants quote meant, in the same universe but not connected to it, like no direct references that sugget it'd be in the same universe
    For completionists' sake, I wanted to add to the that the 70s Captain America actually had 2 movies; that in addition to Generation X, there's also Power Pack, which is even more obscure but technically had a TV movie which served as a pilot in 1991; and that there was Blade: The Series in 2006. But honestly, all of these are extremely obscure and usually don't count when talking about the core Marvel movies or TV shows. To me, the animated movies and shows have a much better chance to feature in Secret Wars than any of these or the ones you mentioned in the "Watch these entries as desired" part, except for maybe Japanese Spider-Man and the 70s Hulk which already have or will have slight references (Supaidaman in Across the Spider-Verse and 70s Hulk as a reference in She-Hulk)
    Overall, good to hear how both of these shows connect (or don't) to the larger X-Men universe. Legion specifically has had so much buzz around it as it being the most underrated superhero show ever that I really need to watch it. Great video as always!

I think it is in the revised timeline and the quote just meant that there won't be any major ties to the other movies. Also, great additions to the "other stuff" list. It's insane how much potential there is for tie-ins during Secret Wars. Lastly, you are right that Legion is a really good show. I think you'll enjoy it if you get a chance to watch it. Like, there's obviously X-men 97', which is slated to have SOME sort of connection to the MCU, though I'm not sure how and to what extent. This would mean that the 90's Spider-Man, Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, AND Fantastic Four shows are ALL connected via association.
    Then there's the damn Spider-Verse films, which, via association with the Venom-verse, have their movies tied into everything. Plus, with the new movie coming up, we now also have Spectacular Spider-Man and all of the shows and movies HE'S connected to, Spiderman: Unlimited, the friggin Toei Japanese Spider-Man, the PS4/5 Spider-Man (who has his own little multiversal rabbit hole) and who knows who else.

    You reply to a lot of comments so I doubt you'll remember my X-Men timelines comment, but upon consideration I think New Mutants actually fits better in the original timeline (in 2020 between The Wolverine and Days Of Future Past) as I'm pretty sure one of the teens in the movie says a line about the X-Men being gone. This would make more sense in the original timeline as the X-Men would be off trying to stop the sentinel project from occurring before it inevitably does at some point before Days Of Future Past begins.
    Also, the Essex Corp would still make sense in respect to the Apocalypse, Deadpool and Logan references from the new timeline after Days Of Future Past. Due to the fact Essex Corp could be working on the same projects in both timelines, meaning the line from Logan stating that no known mutants have been born since 2004 could also work in both timelines. It could also help make sense of the scene where we get flashes of footage that was used in Logan, as New Mutants being placed in a separate timeline means Essex Corp could have been working on the mutant clones years/decades earlier than they were in the new post-Days of Future Past timeline.

    23:00 That's the prequel problem. Dead characters will have a orgin and make you thing, does it even matter?

    • @AbitofEverything4U
      @AbitofEverything4U  Год назад

      Yeah, good point about prequels in general. This particular situation made me laugh, though, because the creator was literally trying to find a meaningless place to put his story and was saying up front it would all be wiped out. It just seemed like a strange way to pitch the story. On the other hand, Rogue One was likely pitched as "haven't you always wondered how they got the Death Star plans? Let's tell that story." That seems alot better than "I know you don't want us to make a TV show as you are focused on the movies, so let us find a spot where everything is meaningless and then we can play around there and you'll just wipe it all out in the end". Both situations are the same result, but the pitches are very different. Just made me chuckle.

    Okay but where does X-Men the animate series, X-Men evolution, and Wolverine and the X-Men take place? And when do I watch the spectacular spider-man tv show?
    Just kidding.
    I really appreciate you mapping out this video, some of these movies are great and it helps start a new fan and make them into a marvel completionist.
    The X-men timeline is really messy, I would love for Disney to remaster these films to fix their continuity with added scenes, updated CGI and maybe some deep fake technology to better bridge the inconsistencies between the supposedly interconnected franchises. I mean Bill Duke and Peter Dinklage look nothing alike, the best the could do is some ADR to change Trasks name in X-Men the last stand. To be fair continuity in movies prior to the MCU wasn't great, just look at the Superman, Batman, Alien/Predator films, or Planet of the Apes films. But there's a ton of other films with plot holes when you look at those franchises as a whole.
    I really like the idea of the X-Men films being after Loki, it sets them up to lead into Deadpool joining the MCU with his use of the time machine he obtain in Deadpool 2.
    Do you think it's possible Legion is in the MCU since it doesn't really fit into the other X-Men timelines?
    And at the end of Fantastic Four 2015 when Reed is pondering what they call themselves all they have to do is add an end credit scene where they flash the Essex corp logo and now they're in the XMCU.

    • @WesleyGuerrero
      @WesleyGuerrero Год назад +1

      Oh and I love the idea of the video for how the Ang Lee hulk could/couldn't fit into the MCU. Maybe if you wanted to expand on that idea you could do videos about the personal timelines of characters in the Marvel multiverse. Maybe take us from the hulk to the Avengers, agents of shield references, age of ultron, Ragnorok all the way to She-hulk.
      Maybe you can follow other characters who haven't been big movie anchors like Tony, Thor, and Steve but have appeared in other movies/shows who might be difficult to follow like Coulson, Natasha, Spider-Man, Rhodey, Sif, or Happy. Mapping out their personal timelines.

      I will call Feige the master of all that he surveys if he finds a way to tie in the X-men animated series into Secret Wars. Wouldn't that be insane?
      I love your idea of Marvel fixing the plot holes in the X-men movies. Wouldn't even be that hard, as many of the inconsistencies can be fixed by changing a line here or there.
      You raise some great points that several other movie franchises have a mess of a timeline. Just shows what a genius Feige is.
      Love the idea of Legion somehow being brought into the overall timeline. I don't know if it's possible, but it would be cool if so.
      As for the 2003 Hulk movie, you may inspire me to work on that. It feels like they dropped alot of breadcrumbs between the two movies, but then walked away from it in the end. But I think it would be fun to explore.
      And the idea of following the personal timelines of some of the characters would be fun. It really is amazing how Marvel managed to keep the stories going in between the major movies for several characters. Great suggestions. Really appreciate you watching and leaving your thoughts!

      Great question! In fact, I did a video on that very topic. It is quite interesting indeed and gets into the details behind the Fox / Marvel spat. You can find it here, if interested: ruclips.net/video/o_k7z97xd94/видео.html. Thanks for asking!

    so i defently believe 20023 hulk fox ff films fox daredevil/elektra and sony ghost rider films should be part of mcu multiverse like spider-man and X-Men.not sure about blade and punisher however.this is defently not knock as i like blade 1 and 2 and 2004 punisher.

      I agree...the multiverse opens up the possibility that all of those movies were canon. I love it!

      @@AbitofEverything4U here is thought about legion maybe legion in final season meeting xavier in past is legion traveling to other universe.Noah hawley has said legion connected to X-Men films but i am not going to tell you why.however even with that it still murcky.hawley said legion takes place before mutants known to general public which would mean original timeline and as one has pointed out here retro fashions and techicologys would tie it before original trilogy.on other hand as one has also pointed out legion season 1 makes refernce to red hook incident which would tie it ti dark phoenix as it was in red hook jean fought X_Men and attacked police.at samme time sector 8 i believe it was secret group after legion seems more like something out of revesed timeline.Hawley back in 2017 said he talked to bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg as he was devolping and writing legion pilot.this is around time kinberg was writing dark phoenix.so it is totaly believable to me red hook incident was meant to tie things together.also in s1 when there is vision of xavoer in wheelchair in past in mind they used same wheelchair from Apocalypse.X-Men is my favorate comic book prioperty.i am what could be called old timer lol as i am 49 and read and collected comics before films started and watched 90's show during original run.so i try to keep track of these things.you alertd me to check up and find matt nix's interview where basicly it is said gifted takes place between the wolverine and dofp.and honestly it works very well there.comics today are joke.ask those who read comics in 80's,90's,and early 2000's and they would never think X-Men turned into today like team fighting for world that hates and fears them and allegory for acceptance turned into supreests having own island nation.

      Yeah, it's a tricky one for sure. Would be cool if they told us the definitive answer some day!

    I have already seen all those first group of additional movies and most of them aren’t great

      Yeah, I definitely agree that most of those multiverse movies are just not good at all. Really a bummer. But it also shows just how amazing of the job Feige is doing.

    Simple: Legion and Gifted are non cannon.

    • @AbitofEverything4U
      @AbitofEverything4U  Год назад +2

      Legion...definitely not canon. Gifted...I think it is canon, but it's part of the timeline that was erased, so in that regard it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things...but it is as canon as the original X-Men trilogy, for instance.

    Yeah, I’ve always said there was just a movie, and more than one actually, that we never get to see in between dark phoenix and the end of future past where it had the events of Jean grey coming back, which would be just like the comics, cuz she and everyone always comes back lol.

      Well said! I agree...it sure seems that way to me, too. Would make a ton of sense and would bridge the gap between Dark Phoenix and the altered DOFP ending.
