The only 3 differences between the 15 pro max and the 16 pro max are: 1) a 48mp sensor for the ultra wide camera, 2) camera button, gimmick and 3) a slightly bigger battery...that is it, I did the same as you and went with the 15 pro max just 5 days before the 16 pro max came out, no regrets
