Just bought one. This is a great no nonsense intro on basic breakdown and cleaning. Really well done!
It's an excellent handgun Chris! We'ree glad the video could help you out.
This has been very helpful. I received a Kimber custom 2 from my dad as he has passed and left me with a small arsenal. And he fell behind on maintenance.
I'm glad it helped out. Sorry to hear about your father...
Best most smooth yet informative video ever. Very professional, what a knowledgeable and articulate dude.
Beautiful video! Thanks for making something so complicated look easy. The step by step instructions were perfect!
Complicated? Do you eat paint chips?
@@wehrewulf I bet this person could do many other things you’d find complex easily without the insults.
Beautifully done video on how to clean and disassemble a Kimber 1911.
Why did you just skim through all the hard parts as if everything is easy. Putting to top slide back on never works on my first try and sliding the disassemble pin back into place is a pain in neck, with all this being said, thank you for the content, I wouldn’t have cleaned my gun properly without it.
I just purchased one recently. I’m in Ca so I have wait the 10-25 days for DOJ now. Great video. I put it on my save list.
I did as well. What did you pay? I’m scared I over paid. It was 700 new
Great video. Made disassembly and reassembly really easy. I'm used to my Glocks and was nervous about doing my 1911 for the first time. No problems at all. Thanks!
I'm glad we could help out! Yea, 1911s can be intimidating at first, but after one or two goes it all makes sense.
I watched a video from another guy and after HOURS, I couldn't get it properly reassembled. Your shorter video cleared up the issue instantly. He didn't emphasize that the loop had to be up and not tucked. THANKS FOR SAVING ME FURTHER FRUSTRATION. Now I can go to the range.
I'm glad we can help out. Getting that loop aligned correctly is the key!
Thank you! I’ve come back to this video multiple times. I love my Kimber, just don’t get to shoot it as often as I’d like. Your video saves me every time I do finally get to the range and need to clean up afterwards. Well done!
I'm glad we could help out!
I have a Kimber Custom II and have fired about 400 rounds through it. I know it's cleaning time and feel more confident after this video.
Great cleaning kit, too! I'll look into getting one. Thanks!
It's a beautiful gun to be sure Jack. Enjoy and thanks for watching!
That was going to be my next question after seeing this video. How often should I clean my kimber? I'm seeing all types of responses online. From every time you shoot it to every 200-400 rounds. Just got one and put about 90 rounds through it last night using Winchester clean ammo.
@@supsnap Depends on your supplies. I've heard of a guy who used top of the line slide glide and handloads with tight group propellant, and he could go 4800 rounds without cleaning, but if you use crappy Wolf ammo and Walmart CLP, probably every few range trips.
My gosh! I love my new shadow ghost, but my XDS was so easy to disassemble! I could take it apart and reassemble it in a record of 9 seconds for fun! But the 1911 is such a more prestigious and fine gun. I’m so excited, thank you!
YOUR video helped me tremendously with dissemble and reassemble. Others sucked, this video was great. Thank you!!
Alex Rathe We’re glad it helped Alex!
This video was super helpful! I made the mistake of turning the barrel bushing counter clockwise and got it stuck. I had to pound the bushing in before I could properly turn it clockwise.
I Had to take out the bushing and sand it carefully till it would go in by hand ,still snug ,but able to turn it with My thumb
Great video! Picking up my Kimber 1911 at the end of the month. Have this video saved and will use it after my first trip to the range. Really great job...and much appreciated!!
Thanks for watching Chris! Great choice on a firearm by the way.
@@SageBraker I got the LW model, basically just because of the price point. I’m a relatively new gun owner, but trying to build out my collection with quality, but also affordability. I know Kimber’s quality, so I jumped when I was able to get the 1911 .45 Custom II LW Stainless for $659. I may move up to the higher end Kimber’s once I get more familiar with my collection and what I like and don’t like. Thanks again for the great info!
Nice and straightforward instructions. Good job!
Great guide! I really appreciate your "just the facts" approach! Exactly what I needed for my new Kimber Stainless II
Glad it was helpful!
Very good video. Didn't own a 1911 till after watching this. Made me go out and get one.
Thanks, this helped. For shooters used to modern stuff or hell, even a Walther P-38 (which, to me, was the first "modern" pistol) the 1911 disassembly process takes some getting used to. But what a great American piece of steel it is!
Thank you. I fired my Kimber custom II Special Forces yesterday. I have to purchase a brush and pipe cleaners. This video helped a lot.
Glad we can help out Paul!
Awesome video to teach people how to take their 1911 apart and teach them how to clean their kimber 1911 it really taught me how to clean mine I love this video.
Glad it helped out!
Great video, exactly what I needed. Thanks for posting!
Glad we could be of help Jordan!
Outstanding direction. Keep up the awesome work.
Thanks Mike!
I look forward to cleaning my Kimber Raptor II when it arrives next week!
Solid choice in firearms!
I have a M&P .45 and love it, but the Kimber will be added to the collection soon. I’ll be bookmarking this for help in the future. Love the cleaning products too, btw. Been a fan from the beginning. Can’t wait for more of these videos! 😉👉
More are on the way Shaun! Keep an eye out.
Good video, everything here applied to my Custom CDP as well
Bought on month ago shot it out the box had failure to feed. I took it home cleaned it up good and it was flawless today at the range.
A wealth of information in a short video - wonderful! Hopefully my Kimber 9mm comes apart the same way...
Thanks a bunch. Just bought Pro Carry II. Now I know what to do!
No problem, happy to help!
Thanks for a great video. Made cleaning simple.
Thank you for the video. The 1911 has been my favorite pistol for years and now I have finally broken one down, cleaned it, and out it back together. Definitely can’t do it in the field, but would you ever really need to?
You guys are awesome. Hella chill and very informative. Definitely subscribing
I'm glad it helped out Nick!
Great video. Right to the point. No fluff!!
Glad it was helpful James!
Thank you. It's nice to see that I've been doing it correctly.
I'm glad we could help out.
Great video. I was able to repair my ambidextrous safety that drifted apart using this video and one other. I hope 'Made in China' will not be the case in the near future. I'll be the first to buy when your merchandise is made in the USA.
This is a great video keep up the great work
Thanks, will do!
I need to get a bushing wrench. I bought a used gun that didn't have the wrench anymore. I use the flat back of my tactical flashlight to depress the spring plug and my fingers to manipulate the barrel bushing.
My first Kimber Custom II is comming soon. 😁
Thanks for the helpful Video. 👍🏻
You're going to love that 1911. Classy as they come.
Great Video. I have some of your products and have to say, I am a fan.
Well we're a big fan of you Don!
Any advice on a tight bushing? Mine is now stuck at the 7 position. I’ve read on forums that they are tight when you first get it and to just work it. I don’t really understand how they “work” it because my will not even wiggle the slightest now.
all the info I was looking for, thank you
Our pleasure!
Beautiful explanation.
Glad it was helpful!
My new Kimber 1911 Rapide (10mm) does not have a full length guide rod, can that be replaced with a full length guide rod?
Very well done video!
Thank you!
is the Kimber 1911 custom 2 reliable? any issues with magz or different kinds of ammo?
Great video, I have a kimber raptor ii stainless, should I oil the outer slide for rust prevention? I've heard of people having some rust issues. Thx
Keeping it dry and applying a light coating of our CLP and wiping it down will prevent this.
Great video. Very professional. We’ll done!
Much appreciated!
anybody know where to find disassembly insturctions for a complete and total tear down?
Helped me get it back together. Thanks!
Yea it can be a bit tough to get back together until you're used to it.
@@SageBraker just used the video again. Thanks!
Where did you get that pad, pouch??
Anybody have trouble with bushing wrench? the standard one is just not strong enough and getting eaten up by the stainless steal. I can't remove barrel bushing...
Amazing freaking video
Thanks!
cant get slide stop out. new gun stiff?
That is the wrong way to insert the slide lock. Doing it that way scratches the frame as can be seen on your gun. Insert the slide lock directly onto the in the position you want the lock to stay in.
any reason why one couldn't just place all parts except maybe the frame in a sonicating bath instead? maybe use ethanol or methanol as the solvent instead of water? Then thoroughly dry with canned air or dry compressed air followed by a good wiping of the parts with gun oil
Do I use the same technique for a 9 mm
Question! I have a Kimber TLR/RL II and just did a field strip and cleaned the thing. As im putting it back together I noticed that the slide refuses to slide back to the point of me being able to put the slide lock in. Im unable to even rack the slide entirely. Noticed that when I depress the Beaver Tail and little safety notch pops up on the Read and that seems to be catching and preventing me from putting it on all the way. Anyone ever experience this? Should I not depress that Beaver Tail?
Did you ever figure out how to fix this I’m fucking stuck
very helpful
Glad you think so!
I hate that you have to use a tool to take it apart. I actually found that you can use the bottom side of the magazine instead of that tool, handy if you are in a combat situation without your tools. I also saw a video where some guy took a 1911 and took that middle pin out without removing the recoil spring first. I tried it, don't do it! Sure the slide came apart from the frame but all the components of the slide were all jammed together and it took me forever to try to figure out how to get it all apart LOL.
100 year old GIs 🙄.
Just bought mine. Can’t wait to get to the range.
Thank you sir
You're very welcome.
I'm a big fan of pretty and this gun certainly is that.
Just picked up my kimber custom ii. Do I need to clean and lubricate it before shooting or is it good to go?
We prefer to clean any and all firearms before shooting them.
Where can I find those grips? Name
Slide won't go back on. It hitting something. Not guide rod or barrel.
Great 👍 video
Thank you Richard! We're glad it was helpful. More to come!
Verygood
Nice video!!
Where did you buy that specific kit?
Looking forward to buy one just like it. 👍🏽
You can find it on www.sageandbraker.com Emiliano.
Where did you get that cleaning kit? I like it
We make them ---> www.sageandbraker.com
Couldn’t figure out how to get the bushing off for like 15 mins lol it was my first time cleaning it since I bought it so that bushing was tight lol but I got it tho haha
What do you do if the slide does not move after I removed the slide stop pin?
Got it! New pistol! Had to wiggle slide back and forth and it finally released!
Great video! What type of gun rug is that?
It's our own Sage & Braker Gun Cleaning Mat --> sageandbraker.com/collections/gun-cleaning-products/products/gun-cleaning-mat
Love the video. It made 1st time cleaning it worry free!
Eric Kaminsky Glad we could help out Eric!
Slow down. And provide more close up shots at critical points. What’s the rush?
Thanks for the feedback Jon. We decided to go with short and concise tutorials. There are plenty of others out there providing you with longer tutorials if that's your preference.
Thanks.
You're welcome William.
Love that mat! Any discounts running?
We don't do many sales being a smaller company and all. We will do a combo discount on a bunch of our products and the mat around Christmas time.

@@SageBraker not in Canada
Did you cause an “Idiot Scratch” when you rather carelessly swung the slide stop into position? You must be careful at that point.
The gun is so fun to shoot, but heck I was so confused hearing the words barrel bushing lol.
Is that a .45 or 9mm version?
This one is the .45 cal. version.
Dude, you gotta slow down. Especially at putting it back together, I had the hardest time getting the slide lock back on. This was my 1st time taking any gun apart, and you just sped through it.
Great tutorial but I would have loved to see them clean a gun that has been shot and needed cleaning lol
Well we didn't want to ugly up our pretty firearm cleaning supplies Daniel! But you're right, that is a good suggestion ;)
@@SageBraker Show them how to remove the firing pin.... That is a must....
I've never owned a Kimber. .45 or otherwise, but several people in the gun business (whose opinion I respect) have told me they are not of very good quality or engineering. Can anyone tell me otherwise or why they would say this? This is a genuine inquiry.
God damn. What a difficult gun to re-assemble. I can re assemble my Glock with my eyes closed! This took me 15 minutes to reassemble!
I agree with the guy that made a comment about putting the slide back on as easy I’m sorry, but it did not work for me and the slide lock pin was a pain in the butt! I watched your video 10 times, and the body of the gun did not slide back on to the barrel, receiver, section easily. I almost had to take the gun back to where I bought it and have them put it together but I finally got it. You covered it too quickly and you didn’t cover some parts that made it easy. Sorry. I don’t know how you made it look so easy but I followed your assembly to the T!! it was excellent on the disassembly, but the assembly it needs an upgrade like showing how the gun section doesn’t slide on the receiver assembly easily. What do you do then?
You can reassemble it by putting the slide lock in place instead of sliding it up to scratch your gun. Expensive beauties should be taken care of…every detail. Try it.
No kidding, I followed what he did on the video and scratched the hell out of it. Terrible way to put the slide lock back in
Is this for a 9mm?
This specific Kimber 1911 Custom II is a .45 ACP. They also have this same one in a 9mm.
@@SageBraker do you have a video for the 9mm version. Mine is the black 1911 9mm. I think midnight edition or something like that
We don't have one specific for the 9mm, but it shouldn't be any different when it comes to cleaning it.
Take slide off first, before you mess with the bushing. This is the “old” way of disassembly.
The video will forget to tell you your probably gonna fight the assembly link for over an hour. Getting that lined up for the pin to go in is literally so hard. It just flops around with nothing to hold it. So you just kinda pray I lines up. If your unlucky like me you’ll be spending an hour or more putting it back together.
The best tool to clean any firearm is baby wipes. I'm telling you!
The 9,000 camera angles made this video so frustrating
Not all 1911’s are chambered in 45
That is absolutely correct.
Not according to John Moses Browning...anything else and that would’ve been blasphemy
Don't press the grip safety during assembly
Not nearly as easy as my pro Kimber to take down! Holy shit!
It can be a bit tricky.
Anyone else notice the huge idiot scratch, and no mention of how to avoid it?
Good job but be a little more specific.... even the smallest error or misplacement can cause a nightmare...... like the quick vid but maybe just put 10 more seconds in for details 👍
I broke it : (
To be clear, WHAT A COMPLETE PAIN IN THE ASS THIS IS TO TAKE APART AND CLEAN!
How to clean a Kimber. Go trade it in on a 1911 that will actually work.
Geez slow down
