I’ve been a nurse for 7 years and while I’m still working as a nurse to keep earning money, next month I will be working on an IT skills certificate. I realised that I can’t sustain this lifestyle for the rest of my life. I don’t want to work nights, weekends and holidays anymore. I want to have children and I want to have energy and time for them. I’m tired of feeling like I’m a pawn in a chess game, dispensable and always being put in vulnerable and risky situations. I’m tired of always having to carry the load of understaffing at the expense of my own health. I used to think I was born to be a nurse, but now I’m ready to help people in a different way
And that's on period!
Utilization review nurse workinh from home super amazing
Hello, I’m interested in nursing and would like to know about the schedule. I heard that nurses only work 3 days for 12 hours, is it true or do nurses have to work more days? If it’s only 3 days, why do people say nurses have no free time or social life? I want to be able to work for 3 days then pursue other things on the rest of the days, is that not possible? Please let me know, it would be very helpful for me, thank you.
@@autumn399 Lol that's because by the time you complete the 3 days, 12 hours, you spend the two other days catching up on appointments, sleep, cooking, cleaning and all that stuff. This is because for the 3 days that you are working 12 hours to 14 hours (do not forget commute time, and getting ready time and also probably staying over to complete documentation), you have time for nothing else.
@@autumn399 Hey! There is no one way that nurses are being rostered round the clock all around the world. It really depends on your specific workplace. Usually, specialty areas allow for 12 hour shifts, but not all of them do. A lot of the time, understaffing can cause nurses to work more hours than they’re contracted to. There are also times when you will have to work overtime or double shifts. If you happen to work at an area that is fully staffed, chances are you’ll have more flexibility in requesting shifts that you want. Also, if you work in outpatient or day surgical admissions for example, you’ll be working day shifts. So short answer is, this will be different from workplace to workplace. Hope this helps!
I met with the informatics nurse and i now i know for sure that IF i go that route, ill do informatics before just dropping nursing completely. He taught me that if i wanted to eventually do back end work i could via certifications. I asked him about going back to school and he said NO don't do that, just focus on certs and stay in nursing.
It’s why I’m thinking about going into nursing informatics as well.
Yes definitely do not quit nursing without completing something (always good to have a backup - ie. I still keep my nursing license active) just incase. Nursing informatics is a great alternative as well. I thought about it, but decided not to pursue that route.
What certifications do you need for informatics?
Stop thinking small !!! You don’t have to stay in nursing ! You can go back at any time . Stop being afraid or you will never live ! Be miserable then
Hello, amazing video. Your video is very educational and you are very honest . I can say I as I have been on both side - nursing and Clinical info specialist
This information is awesome! You gained a subscriber!
Thank you for watching and subscribing! ☺
I’m switching to healthcare from 10 years in cybersecurity. Tech pays a lot but comes with the lack of job security in the long run. Nursing is not easy and becomes tiresome but you’ll always have that job security. Tech you never know who or what will be outsourced if you’re planning on creating a family or a decent lifestyle in the long run.
Welcome . I promise you it’s miserable
You’ll see since you think it’s so great
I definitely see your point. But what I think the best to do is keep both. You keep your RN license active by doing contracts here and there. While maintaining a tech job (so you get the higher pay). But keep the license active if you ever need something to fall back on
@digitalimpulse How are things for you now? Are you still planning to change? I am in infosec, as well, and I hate it. I was interested in pursuing a career in medicine.
You really said it all ma'am@@dlifeofarc1272
amazing content thank you
Thank you ❤
That was so helpful ❤❤
Thanks Jackie 💕💕
That’s interesting about coding because when I watched a webinar about a day in the life of a front end developer we were told that coding is just a part of the job, there are daily meetings and time to do research/learn. Plus much of the coding is just touch ups/improving already existing code.
Glad you’re enjoying cyber security, just wanted to put in my two cents on web development, I was shocked to hear there are so many meetings and time spent on studying/learning
That makes sense especially with AI now in place to help code. I just prefer to not spend more of time being put toward a profession or career - because I do have other goals than that. However that’s just me personally. But if it is someone’s passion and goal then by all means, it makes sense for them to devote the time to such a rewarding skill.
FAU has a BSN to MS in Artificial Intelligence. I’m looking at that route
This was A-Z and answered all my questions. Well done
Thank you
Talk about the stress level of the two jobs nursing vs cybersecurity
This is true...payrate does vary from state to state and the demand. NY RN start at 60+/hr more with specialty/experience but then factor in the cost of living 😬
You are right and sounds like the rates are higher in NY and Cali but that definitely makes sense due to cost of living.
@@dlifeofarc1272 Yeah I guess if other nurses were to take the IT path as you they would just need to have all their paperwork in order... once the contract ends...I missed a lot a good postings doing travel nursing because of that.
Came for help taking nursing program but feel like it’s to much anyone ever switched from nursing to cyber security it
I love you channel!!! 🩵 I’m a CNA and I just can’t deal anymore with the stress and the nurses look miserable 😩 I was going to just settle to study nursing but IT is way more my thing!
Thank you for watching. And take the time to actually think of what you want to do, and how you see yourself living your life in the future.
Becoming a nurse is not settling and I doubt if you could do either one
We are miserable lol
good video and informative
Thank you for watching! :)
I just want work from Home I HATE BEING IN THE hospital now so toxic. I love being a nurse i just hate the environment
Maybe you could change specialty, or even work unless stressful environments like in a school
But I love the 3 days work week 😢and the freedom of picking up extra shift to make more $
Hello, I’m considering nursing. Can you tell me how the 3 days work week works. Like do you have to work 3 days a week straight or are the 3 days spread throughout the week? Can you choose if you want night shift or day shift? Can new grads work 3 days a week or do they have to work more? If you can please let me know, it would be very helpful for me.
@@autumn399 most of hospitals do 3 x 12hr shifts per week. You can choose to be on day or night shift. The schedule depends unit’s need, or if your manager do the scheduling, you’d need to talk to him/her about your scheduling preference. Some prefer to work 1 day, off 1, on 1, off 1, on 1; some prefer to work 3 days straight and off 4 days.
@@jennazhang4927 thank u for your reply. Is working 3 days straight manageable? Does it burn you out?
@@autumn399 it’s pretty manageable to me I’d say, it really depends on your lifestyle
@@jennazhang4927 oh so is it possible to work for 3 days, then pursue my other interests in the remaining 4 days?
Hi, I'm currently surveying black female nurses to find out their hobbies, challenges, frustrations and future goals. I find it very interesting that you quit nursing for IT. If you can do a quick reply, I would appreciate it.
What cert in IT did you get? I’m thinking about leaving nursing for tech as well. If anything I’ll go the tech route in nursing.
I started off by getting my CompTIA Security + certificate
How much was it
@@dlifeofarc1272 after CompTIA, what other certs did you get next to eventually get into the cybersecurity analyst position? btw your video was very informative and clear. Well done
@@Bussie1981 thank you! And it depends on what route you’re going into. Let’s say you want to be more of an assessor then you would get CISA or say you wanted to get into management then CISM. It truly depends on your direction
Hi, is it true that with the IT sector, you have to be up-to-date with the latest technologies or else you'll fall behind? Thank you for this informative video!
This is absolutely true.
Thanks for your very good inputs! How come you did not choose UX designer? They don't have to code either..
Pay and Job Security
Thank u for info lovely. May I ask the cost of the boot camp you complete? The one I want cost 12k
The bootcamp that I mention in my google docs cost I believe $3000. I do not know if it has gone up since then.
Do you have a blueprint of the courses or steps you used to learn cybersecurity?
Yes I do! It’s in my google docs
@@dlifeofarc1272
How can I locate your google doc
@@dlifeofarc1272 hello, where can I find your google doc? Thank you!
Hiii I love your channel what’s your intro song name?? 😊🎵
Thank you! It’s called Pookie by Aya Nakamura
Do you have to deal with politics in cybersecurity?
Yeah you have to deal with politics in most corporate work.
Can you share the link for the BootCamp?
Hello, the information regarding the bootcamp is provided in my google doc.
@@dlifeofarc1272 Thank you! Are you planning to get more certification? If yes, what will be next for you?
@@myhealthislife Hi Yes, I got my CASP and CISM and I am thinking of transitioning into AWS
@@dlifeofarc1272hey babes, I’ve been following your story for a while now, is there a reason why you’re transitioning to AWS is there something we new aspirants should take note of?
Maim I’ve traveled all around and negotiated contracts with nursing. I love my job . I think you’re a bit limited in what you know , nursing is very flexible
My comparison is based on a staff nurse as stated earlier in the video. And that’s because you’re a nurse contractor, not a staff nurse hired directly with an already defined pay rate by the hospital.
@@dlifeofarc1272 I work at a hospital & I have an agency job and a PRN job. Very flexible positions & schedule. I’m also a single mom. I make great money & would it trade this profession .
