    I've been a nurse for 5 years now... and I tell anybody that is interested. DON"T DO IT! It's not about discouraging people it's about keeping it 100% real. Nursing is a slave Job. . If you like taking care of people like myself there are other careers that will serve you better. Nurses are underpaid and nursing school is very expensive. True you will make money but at the cost of you sanity and quality of life. There is so many other routes you can take to still satisfy that eagerness to help others.

      Yes you’re right. I wish I honestly truly knew what being a nurse was before I went to school for it. I believe that our society glamorizes it, even my nursing school teach glamorized nursing too. It was when I got into the work force that I was like damnnnn whet?
      With the amount of work bedside nurses do, it should be a six figure job. And yes the sanity and quality of life is not it for bedside nursing. And constant shortage. With all the physical abuse that the nurse is exposed to, but yet they are only giving out key chains and pens for nursing week smh. It’s not fair to nurses at all.

    I've been bingeing on "I quit my nursing career" videos all day 😂 I'm a LTC LPN of 6 years and I'm so done! I'm miserable. Getting verbally and physically abused by residents and the family complaints. Management is so crappy, they can remind us of what needs to be completed but can't come into to help when I have 40 patients, 1 aide, and two admissions all by myself. My mental health has declined so much, I'm angry and anxious just clocking in. Traveling helped for a little but it's BS everywhere. It's also a very racist field and management will pick favorites. I've decided to go into construction project management, I've always liked home and building improvement, as well as interior design. The money I make isn't worth it. I just want to be happy and love what I do.

    Thank god I found this! I’ve been a community nurse for 4 years now. My last semester in school I felt a shift in my perspective of nursing and realized I knew nothing of what it was really about. It’s so over glamorized. Teachers and the general public glamorize it without realizing what it’s truly about. Community nurses often get over looked and extremely underpaid compared to hospital nurses - no shade to hospital nurses as I’ve always been so nervous to be a hospital nurse. Im 26 looking for a new career path but am just so confused with what I want now and too ashamed to go back to school for something different. Im afraid to spend more money on something I don’t like. I wished I listened to myself during my last semester instead of devoting so many hours into nursing. I wondered what I would have decided to do if I just listened to my gut. I loved this video! I’m so glad more and more people are speaking up about this. I was having a truly bad day and this is making it a lot better. I wish everyone the best of luck!

    As a fellow RN for 16 years, I see this all too often. Burnout is a REAL thing in any profession. Many nurses who I am affiliated with made an immediate 180 from Med/Surg. And many used it as a bridge to transition into their ideal specialty such as HIT, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Software Engineering, Medicine, etc. It's becoming more of a commonplace thing in many professions so I can relate to her frustration. Working any job that affects your Health, Wealth, and Mentality... NEED TO GO!

I know I want to do something that I am passionate about and will more than likely start my new career before 2021 is over. Also, after having worked the Covid unit before the vaccines were available, and working the night shift I will not go through that hell again . Also, while all this is going on were often understaffed and have to take on additional tasks that would normally go to an aide. Don't forget all the requests from patients and physicians inability to call each other! I feel like nothing in doing is tangible and makes any difference. The advantage of her career is that she has a top secret/secret clearance through the military. Most high salary IT jobs already wants you to have a clearance. Sometimes, you can find contractor jobs that will pay for your clearance depending on quick positions need filling to secure the contract. I have an IT degree which really took me 7 years to nail a job without a clearance or any certifications. If you don’t have a clearance, at least have Security Plus cert which will make you more marketable and an investment for them to pay for your clearance. Right now, the AWS cloud practitioner is popular in the IT world.

It has totally and completely saved my career.. for now. but as soon as I’m done paying off my student loans I’ve already said I QUIT NURSING!! Lol I am so happy that you found something that works for you 💗. I am still trying to find my path and decide what I want to switch to but I do know I am leaving the floor as soon as these loans are paid. I may not leave nursing altogether because truly I do love being a nurse, I love the impact I have on patients, I love educating my patients, and I love the relationships I build. Wonderful story and thanks for sharing. As a woman working in IT for 10 years please keep in mind that IT is very broad. Sometimes certs will not cut it. I think those that are interested in IT needs to do research that best fits them. Find the area that best interests you. Factors can be the State you live in, do you want to be contractual, are you obtaining a security clearance as a civilian, what days an hours do you want to work. I was a Penetration Tester in cyber security and I worked after business hours and on weekends. Those that are in networking or field tech thats physically demanding. It's so much more.

      @MT-yx5cu 3 года назад +3

      @@asiaaa8067 I'll list them and you can decide if they are actually a challenge for you.
      1. Difficult to find a fulltime job. Most RDH's have 2 part-time jobs or seek temp work; especially if you live in city that's releasing 20-30 hygienists per year. You may have to move.
      2. It can be extremely stressful and fast paced if you work in a high patient volume office. If your office doesn't see many patients, it may be a little more laid back; however, you probably won't make much money. They will send you home.
      3. Not much time to do your job. Some practices give you less than an hour to complete an appointment which encompasses more than just a prophy as you know. If you dont care about the quality of your work or patient comfort, this won't be an issue.
      4. Lots of butthole doctors/dentists who are stressed, have bad attitudes, cheap and don't respect what you do; many think of you as someone who just cleans teeth and increases their production.
      5. Difficult to find a job with benefits unless you work for the government, find an office that's been taken over by a corporation or find a franchise dental office like ASPEN (who has a horrible rep by the way).
      6. Overtime it takes a toll on your back and hands. Keep perfect posture and positioning when you are working. Workout/exercise and eat healthy consistently throughout your career. You will thank me later😊.

      Preach!! I feel like instead of investing in calling healthcare workers heros (which they are, do not get me wrong). I think it will translate better, if they invest in i.e. free mental health therapy sessions for health-care workers, free schooling for health-care workers, bonus checks instead of free food and so much more!

    I have been trying to get into nursing school for about 7 years now. I finally got into nursing school. Through this journey I questioned it so many times and got discouraged. I do want a second career but nursing is something that I know that I wanted to do for so long… I will def look to book an appointment with her to see if this would be something I could be able to do. I’m glad I found this

    And I'm currently leaving IT for nursing. I think location plays a huge factor in the jobs/opportunities available

    Girl I’m in a postbacc program right to be a future PA … but I applied to a coding boot camp next year and got in. At first I thought I was the only one tryna do a big switch . I worked as MA during covid and best part I loved was talking and meeting different patients but everything else was labor. Even providers were burnt out ! I’ll update next year bc I thought I was the only one over this health care system
