      Bought this camera and the 4k 60fps is absolutely terrible. Not sharp at all and honestly looks like a 1080p camera that shoots 60fps. So disappointing. I hope B&H lets me send it back. I’ve been shooting with a c70 for almost 4 years now and I guess these little cameras are all hype.

    Great video. Thanks for doing it!
    If you look at this camera for what it is, a stills-based hybrid, it's brilliant in all the right ways. IMO where so many get into trouble is when they define it as a video camera, which it is not. R5C is a video-based hybrid, as is A7S3, S1H, Xh2S, which are still inferior in some ways to bonafide video workhorses like C70, C300/500, Komodo, FX6, BMCCPCCMCCP6k (or whatever they are now) etc.
    R5ii is a stills hybrid. It overheats, doesn't have time code, doesn't have cinema features like a face only AF, still makes compromises with monitoring tool workflow, no fan, line skipped 4K60, wobbly IBIS...etc. Its a stills camera, and while it can shoot very nice video as well, the inclusion of a flatter log curve alone doesn't fundamentally make it a video camera.

    The guy on the phone is questionable at best. He doesn't know the Nikon Z8 exist for 8K RAW internal and talks about shutter speed for line skipping

  • @Quadz10
    @Quadz10 23 дня назад +1

    Great video! But what does shutter speed have to do with the “line skipped” issue?? 🤔

  • @BoatZone
    @BoatZone 25 дней назад +1

    134.4 shutter speed took away the line skipping? Someone care to explain?

    • @p_adam19
      @p_adam19 25 дней назад +1

      They are confusing line skipping and moire with flickering, they are not the same thing.

    • @loudandclearmedia
      @loudandclearmedia 24 дня назад

      Yeah, two different things entirely.

  • @dadstalktech

    The CFExpress Card you selected is definitely going to work, but you're limited to the CFExpress 2.0 speeds of the camera internally. You'll potentially see nice transfer speeds to your computer from that card with a card reader capable of using the CFExpress 4.0 standard speeds connected to a USB 4.0 port.
    Also, the real number you need to pay attention to isn't the maximum read/write speed - it is the minimum sustained transfer rate. This number for all cards is significantly lower than the maximum rate. The reason you can about that, especially in your usage of cameras, is because you have a large sustained stream of data that would be ruined if the card's minimum write speed dips below what the data stream rate happens to be. That being said, most name brand cards are going to perform to the minimum requirements of even the 8K RAW at 2600 Mbs = 325 MB/s. The OWC you purchased has a minimum write speed of 1500 MB/s, so you're more than covered and likely have speed not being utilized. I don't know the exact max speed the R5 II can leverage the CFExpress bus, but I doubt it tops 1000 MB/s and may actually be much lower since that extra speed translates into increased heat and the camera doesn't need more that 325 MB/s to handle its most demanding workload.
    Thanks for the early look at the R5 Mark II!

      @JordanPulmano  25 дней назад +1

      Thank you for the info! This is incredibly helpful. I picked this card up because of the price per gb and I have trusted the brand for years.
      I still need to pick up a few more cards so now that I know all of this, it is going to help me figure out what I actually need!

    Great video! Definitely learned a lot. That’s a bummer about the battery situation. If you’re shooting video and using an older LPE6N battery, can you use usbc power delivery to get around the video limitations? With my R5C I can use usbc power delivery and still record 8K60 raw.

    I was waiting for this camera all year but now leaning more towards the r5c. Biggest gripe is the need to purchase new batteries instead of using my existing canon batteries, plus the fact they didn’t fix the overheating which makes it unreliable for documentary work / interviews.

    • @JordanPulmano
      @JordanPulmano  25 дней назад

      I think the R5C is absolutely the move for that! I can’t see myself using this as a B cam for long interview setups. At least initially.
      And yeah that battery situation stinks… I think they are going to get some big backlash about it once the camera starts getting into people’s hands and they realize.

      Because people will still buy all of Canon products regardless. I brought a FX3 in July 24 and ended up trading my R5 with all my L lenses for a A7RV with GM lens. Best decision ever no overheating, great dynamic range and image quality.

    Must connect VMount to R5C but otherwise it's 100% reliable. R5 will never be reliable enough for professional work, especially in heat. Must need active cooling.

    • @JordanPulmano
      @JordanPulmano  25 дней назад

      Active cooling is absolutely a must! My C70 spits air out like crazy to keep it moving. I am curious if any third party companies will release a more powerful cooling fan / cage for this, and if they do I wonder how it will perform in comparison to the R5C. I don't have high hopes for Canon's cooling grip.

      You can’t have it both ways, you either want crappy battery life like the r5c with the old batteries or you want better battery life with more powerful batteries.
      When shooting all the powerful codecs it has you need a battery to handle it.

    • @RayValdezPhotography
      @RayValdezPhotography 25 дней назад +2

      the battery design is ancient. This is just a case of a company trying to stick to a form factory too long. Even sony had to make new batteries eventually and mirrorless is no where near as old as lp -e6 which came out in 2008 i think.

    • @Xirpzy
      @Xirpzy 23 дня назад

      @@RayValdezPhotography I dont know much about tech but it feels similar to the micro hdmi and I wonder why we cant have things like internal 32 bit audio recording and something similar to m.2 ssd in new cameras. I wonder if they actually do any rnd in these directions or they are too comfortable with what they know works.

    • @JordanPulmano
      @JordanPulmano  25 дней назад +1

      I think it all comes down to how you’re using it! Is it mainly for photo? In that case I think (in my opinion) it’s not as much of an upgrade.
      If you’re using it mainly for video then there are a lot of great video upgrades. Clog 2, and the newer 10 bit codecs for me are the biggest selling point that I have been waiting for in this size camera.

    Just a quick point to this camera if you are a landscape shooter don't buy this camera. Repeat do not buy this camera. If you are a landscape photographer all these latest Canon videos not one of them. I've seen has mentioned landscape photography for one. It's got a flip out screen and landscape photographers hate that..... Has questionable dynamic range and I say questionable from the mini videos on RUclips. The dynamic range is not particularly great so yes for wildlife sports action people and video of course which basically this is a very very souped up video camera. If you are a photographer I would be looking somewhere somewhere else to be honest. That's just my view having looked at the specs and looked at mini videos over the last few weeks. If I'm a general photographer I wouldn't be spending this kind of mo, this is a pro body basically for pro sports people or pro video
