SILENT Clicky Switches?? Box Mute Jades Review and Sounds
HTML-код

- I made this video to talk about the new Kailh Box Mute Jades that just dropped from Novelkeys! These things are super interesting, because they feature the same click bar mechanism as the Box Jades and Box Navies, except there is a muting mechanism inside the top housing that makes these switches much quieter than the other box clickies.
In this video, we go over the specs about these switches such as materials and spring weights, and I give my personal thoughts about typing with these. Most importantly is the SOUND TEST with these bad boys where we compare them to normal Box Jades and Kailh Sages!
This video was a lot of fun to make, so please comment if you have any questions or if you think there's something I can do better! If you have the chance to pick up these "silent" clicky switches, I definitely recommend it!

The silicon piece isn’t the only reason these switches are muted. The click bar is oriented differently than it is in jades/navys and doesn’t depress and snap back like the normal box clickies. This is actually the more significant change in terms of sound/loudness
You're totally right! This is something I noticed when i was messing around with the switches some more after the video already published, but unfortunately at that point it was too late to add it as a talking point because the video was already out. In addition to the orientation, the click bar is thinner too. I thought this was interesting given that they're marketed as a 'jade variation' but they use a different click bar internally.
Thanks for making this review. They're really great switches (definitely in top 5 for me) and Im excited to see novel innovations like this instead of the millionth linear recolor.
So glad you liked it! Me too, i hope to see more unique switches that give us unique feels and sounds
JWK Linear + Progressive Spring + Pastel Colors + JAPANESE NAME 🥶😱😳🤩😜
Am I the only ones that are tired of linear snobs?
@@junocchi7 matcha water Pom polycarbonate fr4 pre- lubed holee pe foam tape tempest ultra thocc clack pop drip tick 5 pin solder hotswaps are my favorite switches
@@clackattackofficial where could I buy these?
love these they are so balanced when it comes to sound with a slight click and enough thock. the slight click filters out any scratchiness on entering and exiting feels amazing to type on i need more box mute jades
Love the review! Thanks for introducing me to these new switches! This will be my next purchase!
I have these as well. I like them with a couple caveats:
1) I found a wider than normal variation in feel from switch to switch (even when ordered at the same time and from the same box). The tactility in a minority is more rounded/mushy. And in some the pre travel is shorter. This might be fixable if one opens them up and or film them.
Also, it’s not just the silicon pad that is different. The click bar is bent at a different angel and the end is bent at 90 degrees to the non mute switch. For kicks I swapped a box pink lower half with the mute jade top and it was clickier, so the changes to the bar are important too.
The tactility is not as sharp as the regular box clickies. Sometimes it almost feels gravelly.
These have a nice trampoline like effect if you type lightly. I think they would benefit from an even higher bottom out force, however.
I am now more exited than I have been in a while, and its over a keyboard switch. Thank you for a great review of a product I am now verry interested in
Great video! This channel has a really bright future! Keep it up
Yo, that's interesting! I'm a clicky guy myself and currently collecting every single clicky switches out there and was surprised that they made something that is technically a "Silent clicky" switch. Might check them out cuz I do like the tactility from non clicky switches as well! ^^
Glad you liked it! I think it's a cool idea for sure and i was excited to try them out
Thanks! Hope to get this switches some day.
Great video! Didn't even know these switches were a thing.
From the MOMENT (however many years ago it's been) I saw a video on the first box switches and how they set up the white click bars, I wanted to try experimenting with dampening the impact point to essentially extract the sound while keeping the tactility. Fast-forward to a year ago and I'm reminded of that idea when these switches come out. Not quite sure why they changed the design to work how it does, but the use of a dense silicone doesn't quite do as good of a job as some other more porous material would. I mean, I get that it would likely be unreasonable to use something like foam or felt from a manufacturing efficiency standpoint, but one of these years I'll be able to pick up some thick bars and finally put my idea to the test ♥️
oh my god i actually like this. usually i don't like clickies but these sound great.
Nice video! Instant sub
I really like the Box Jades, but I want to try something that’s weighted just a little different. Hard to figure out which though
Great video! I've been interested in box jades, but with having a wife working from home I wanted something quieter (even if she uses cherry mx blues herself...) Thanks for the review! I think these will go into my next board.
Thanks for watching and glad you liked it! And maybe grab some for the wife too while you're there hahahah
instantly subbed keep up the reviews
That actually sounds crispy might try this
I love it! I modded some choc navies just like that. Nice to have some stock
Right on. It's cool to get some unique switches like these instead of something that's strictly clicky or tactitle. This is some kind of middle ground in my opinion
I love the feel of navies, but for the keyboard I want to build for uni these sound just fine (lighter weighting better for the long typing and in terms of noise). One of my main concerns is whether the switches become clicky over time, like the box royals did for me.
First off, amazing video. Really enjoyed it.
Second, I had NO IDEA these switches were a thing! Thanks.
I just bought 45 jades to use in my keyboard for function keys and other buttons, as well as a few macropads. This looks like a great switch to use for the actual letters of my keyboard. Clicky function keys and silent letter keys!
Wow, thank you so much for the kind words! Glad you found the channel.
It's funny you said that about clickies for the mods and quiet switches for the alphas. I'm building a Mechwild MurphPad soon and I was thinking about throwing jades or navies inside of it just because I won't be pressing it all the time ya know? Great minds think alike I guess.
This video was frankly incredible for such a low amount of subs. I’m going to be proud to say I’ve been here since before 100 subscribers. Just get ready to become famous 👍
WOW, thank you! That's incredibly kind of you and I appreciate the compliments!
Ayo, good review! I covered these just a couple hours before you. They are pretty comfortable to use (albeit a little heavy), and I agree that it’s good to see something new.
However, I personally don’t see much resemblance between these and the Jades, I wonder if it was just my batch? The tactility between the two types of switches was pretty night and day, I found them rather underwhelming. The sound and feel reminded me of an early generation BOX Royal turned clicky.
Thanks for watching! I think there's a decent similarity, but there's definitely a little bit less tactility on the muted jades. Overall I think it's a great starting point that they can take from here and refine a bit more in the future.
@@clackattackofficial yeh folks in my comments were saying they were rather disappointed that they didn’t go with Jade levels of tactility, since folks wanted the distinct feedback from the thick clicks without a super loud click. I don’t disagree to be honest, but I definitely was put off since it was marketed as a “mute Jade” so folks would automatically assume it’d be very like one
Just watched your video and it was MUCH more in depth than mine hahaha. You made a lot of great points in there, i think we were all hoping for something a tad bit different. I actually took the click bars out of the jades and the mute jades and saw that they're different click bars, which surprised me. I was under the impression it would all be the same other than the muting mechanism, but they used a different bar entirely. This isn't something I realized until today tbh
great video comparison.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
awesome video!! first time I see the disassembly of a switch and how it works in real life, not the 3D renders, which is not the same.
From listening to the video, think the silent clicky swtich sounds almost like a tactile switch?
I've been sorta half-way DIYing these for a bit, only using grease to dampen the clickbar. this seems like a much better and more permanent solution.
sounds interesting!
@@clackattackofficial it works well, but it does dampen the tactility somewhat. I have too many keyboards to play with to have run into significant longevity problems with it, but I'm sure it wouldn't take too long for the grease to migrate out of the right spots with heavier use.
I'm using 205g2 on the little coil on the left side and the tiniest bit of drill rod grease on the loop on the right, if you ever want to try it out yourself. any real sticky and thick grease should do the job if you can't get your hands on an appropriately small amount of drill rod grease, it's just what I had available.
@@butre. thanks for the info!
that click sounds good
Might just pick these up. Personally never been a fan of mx style tactiles because of the saw bladey feel they tend to have but the click bar design feels much better imo. Curious to see how clickiez will compare these and if they’ll be worth the zeal tax.
Well clickiez ended up even more tactile lmao
clickiez honestly don't cost all that much. the kailh box switches are a bit of an outlier when it comes to extreme tactility, you should see the cost per switch of a real alps switch
@@butre. alps switches cost as much as they do because they’re rare, not in production, and a collectible. Clickiez are none of those. They certainly seem amazing when compared to mx blues but when compared to alps it comes up well short. And yes I’m comparing them to alps because zeal and his fan girls are justifying the price by basically saying “well it comes close to alps and alps are expensive so that means these should be too”. They only cost as much as they do because zeal is a greedy asshole. His margins for these switches is probably insane, even with an extra part and different mold. I’ll still be picking them up because I love overly tactile switches but I’ll never recommend them to anyone else unless the price comes down.
Man, this is a well made video. Was looking for a review/overview on the mute jades after I heard of it today and decided to get a batch for a new keyboard i am building. I have mainly been a tactile/Silent tactile switch person but had always dreamt of a silent clicky switch. How is the sound level compared to tactile or event silent tactile switches?
Thank you for the kind words, I hope you like them! They're just a tad louder than a stock tactile switch in my opinion, and the pitch is a tad higher. Comparing these to the NK Blueberries that i use, they're a little bit louder.
Where do u find the switches
Was waiting for someone to review these. Very high quality video. As for the switches, if you were blindfolded and wearing noise canceling headphones would you be able to tell the difference from regular clicky switches? In terms of feel?
Glad you liked it. To be honest, these have just a little bit less tactility than the box jades and navies, so I feel like i'd be able to tell the difference. It's not a massive difference in my subjective opinion, but just enough to notice.
Honestly i was disappointed and felt dumb for even thinking they would feel the same💀 i put them back in the box and im waiting til im not lazy enough to make a listing
I want these but cant find them in stock online =(
I wonder if different keycap profiles like SA or MT3 would accentuate the squishy muted clicker sound. Besides that I think these sound pretty decent.
Thats really nice.
Thanks!
Nice
That's pretty cool. They sound a bit like a louder glorius panda lol
So the only dampening (silencing) part is where the clickbar strikes? If so, it is exactly what I was looking for, because I hate the mushiness of typical silent switche and love the tactile feel of the clickbar! If the stem itself isnt dumpened by any silicone, I'll surely pick them up
Correct. The only difference is the orientation of the click bar and the silicone part sticking out of the top housing to make the click sound much less harsh. The stem looks exactly like one you might find in a Box Jade or Navy, no dampening on it.
@@clackattackofficial Thank you very much!
These... remind me a lot of tactile Alps switches in how they sound and I think they might be as close as you can get to Alps without going with Matias (actual Alps clone) or the clickiez (which are overpriced IMO) but there's definitely good options now.
I personally haven't tried Alps yet, but I've heard a lot of people saying that!
@@clackattackofficial Yeah the only tactile Alps switch I have is a single loose Pine Black out of a Dell AT101. If you can find an AT101 (stay away from the AT101R) its a good place to start, or if you want something new get a matias keyboard tho I've heard they dont feel the same as genuine Alps.
@@eppicshotgun1281 AT101 was the best starting place a few years ago, but at this time I'd argue that an Apple M0116 is alot easier and cheaper to find on ebay. Seriously I swear there are at least 10 just available to me in Australia every time I check. And you get the bonus of Salmon Alps, or Orange if you're lucky, over Bamboo Blacks which is such a massive step up
@@jasonhaiad I havent looked in a while since I found my endgame (Unicomp New M) but I didn't see many alps boards at all that weren't already stripped of their switches. I did manage to pick up an Acer board with their switch and linarize it lol it's real nice.
So its a clicky made to sound like a tactile. But with a clicky press. I likey
Sounds kinda like Orange Alps/Brown Alps. Can be an option for my next keyboard.
Unfortunately i haven't tried any Alps yet, but I hope to one day! I have heard quite a few people say they sound similar, though.
Is the tactility the same as in Jades? Because there are many users saying that these are barely more tactile than Brown switches, which is terrible.
I'd say they're definitely more tactile than browns, but they are also noticeably less tactile than Jades. The click bar itself is a little bit thinner, and it's rotated 90º which gives it a slightly different feel.
I wish the reverse of this existed, silenced bottom out, not silenced clickbar
Turns out they do, made by i-rocks
Do they actually feel clicky though?
This seems counter productive
Wow, that's pretty fantastic. I currently enjoy my Box Pinks, which aren't too loud for me. It feels like the muted switches trade off too much tactility for the sound. I wonder whether you can just mimic the sound dampening by using o-rings on regular Box Jades?
Wonder how these are vs. clickiez
i haven't gotten my hands on the clickiez yet :(
Does anybody know what keycaps he is using? Dolch clones?
Hey! The keycaps in the video are Akko Psittacus, Cherry Profile.
@@clackattackofficial very nice. Thank you :)
I will put some in a QuietKey and see how they feel!
enjoy!
Well s**t...
I ran Box Jades before switching to Durock Dolphin Silents last month...
*_sigh..._*
Guess I gotta buy more switches.
LOL you can never have too many switches!! I just bought another 3 packs of mystery switches from novelkeys bc they were running the sale again
What keycaps do you have
The keycaps are the Akko Cherry Profile Psittacus set. You can find it here:
en.akkogear.com/product/psittacus-keycap-set-157-key/
maybe if they do a silent pink ill consider it
you never know!
Your looking at custom keyboards wrong. This is a family heirloom. Still an insane number of clicks, but wasd is going to wear out after a couple generations.
The sound is not good to my ears, and these are basically the opposite of what I was hoping for in a "mute clicky" switch. I expected a switch with rubber bits to mute the bottom and top of the stroke, so you would only hear the sound of the clickbar!
Sorry to hear that! That's an interesting idea, for sure.
You are first person I saw who loves ear-piercing noise of click bar. By the way the switch is for peebs who want tactility from click bar but don't like its clicky noise.
Wouldn't they just be tactile switches?
I think it's a fair assessment to call them tactile switches, but it's a different kind of tactility than you would get from a traditional tactile switch, in my opinion.
So it sounds the same as every switch that isn't a clicky switch lol? To my ears, there is just clicky and not clicky, when it comes to the switch itself. All other noises come from the clacking and thumping of the keys, bottoming out, and the echo throughout the keyboard.
This is sounds like MX blue without the click I SWEAR!
and they feel much better to type on!
@@clackattackofficial might purchase these and build a custom keeb- they seem quite interesting to me and i would definitely like to try them out
Sounds almost alps like
Lot's of people saying this!
THATS CLICKY??????
no way
so its just a tactile
Yeah, weird how people have started hating on the click sound.
nice review
why would anyone ever choose to use a magic mouse
mac mouse, nope
These switchesmakes NO fukcing sense. They are not silent, the clack is unbearable yet they call this a silent and then add a click. Remind me to never buy Kailh again.
