    Box royals is one of my favorite Tactile switch cuz it's it's one of the sharpest and most tactile ones I've tried on the non-clicky tactile category. I should've went with that instead of my Durock T1 Sunflowers when I got the chance ^^;

i was pleasantly surprised when i tried them! i haven't tried the durock T1 sunflowers yet, but i just ordered the new bluejay tactile switches from mechwild and i'm excited to try them out!

How is the longevity? I have seen complaints about tactile box switches failing after a while and ends up clicky. My 24key sampler has this issue with a tactile key that is louder than the clicky keys. I was confused that the cheat sheet showed it NOT be a clicky.
After 4 months since you posted this reply, are they still good or turned clicky?

Are these the same as the Kailh Purple or kailh box crystal royal? Can't find these anywhere

The problem with BOX tactiles is that they become clicky over time, the one in my tester turned into clicky in a single week of fidgeting with it, I don't like the fact that you need to lube the little nub because it reduces the tactility.

    • @clackattackofficial

      yup, definitely annoying

Glad I'm seeing this before getting box tactiles. Reality like the feel of the box royals. So it's just their box?
After a few years, you would think that Kailh would fix this problem. It should have shown up during stress testing. 1% failure rate would be acceptable.. but not a common thing that renders the product useless.
So... I gather with yours and other people's experiences, most of the alphabetical keys fail quickly.

@@S85B50Engine Thanks! I had the Kailh Box Royals in my basket. Since I'm mixing my keys on the same board, a seller was out of what I was looking to buy and was looking for an alternative box variant as I didn't want to go with two different sellers (KBDfans / NovelKeys = both look good). And a 2018 video or article said "they go clicky" :( So I ended up here, looking for 2022 review to see *IF* Kailh fixed it. I see posts by people saying that lube helps, but only for a few weeks?!?! My last keyboard lasted me 15 years. I'm new to hot-swap mechanical keyboards... switches that fail in months or weeks is 100% unacceptable. A BOX switch that turns clicky = failure.
Using a 24-switch sampler, I really really liked the P-shape tactile of the Royal. SO far, I've not found a Kailh normal version of the Royal.
Have you had any luck in finding something like the Royal, that also doesn't cost $1~5 per switch?
I'm still getting some box CLICKY switches since the issue is with the Tactile and not the liner or Clicky ones.
Too bad, I like the keytop stability of the Kailh box switches.
Not fun being key picky, eh :P

@@S85B50Engine Just watch a video by Switch and CLick going over a 2-3 dozen tactile keys that are 30 cents to $5 each. She really like the feel of the Box Royal, but the guy in the video said Box keys turn into Click keys. She's like "months?" He said, "Weeks, or sometimes out of the bag."! so they gave it an F score.
I've been looking at Load Curve graphs on some of these keys, and other Royal's P shape can be seen.
So for my main alphabet keys, I'm looking at Akko Jelly Blue or Akko ocean Blue ($14~$17 for 45 keys on Amazon. Not bad. compared to $15 for 30 Kailh switches) 60m strokes. After a week I think I understand what "scratchy" sounds like. But I'm not ready to do lubing yet. But what I don't like about the Akko switches is the colored clear plastic which can mess with my RGB colors. *sigh*

If you're looking for very sharp and deep sounding switches, you might give NK Anubis switches a try. If you do try them, it is recommended to spring swap them to 67-70g two stage springs for a much snappier feel.

Royals are definitely my favorite MX tactile switch as well by far. I actually prefer a good dome with slider over all other mx tactiles other than royals. Have you tried tactile alps? Orange alps are probably the only tactile I like more than box royals, but the feel is so different. Also, I noticed the opposite for box royals' sound than you, but I guess that depends on chassis, I put mine in a case that's basically all metal which made them sound very deep and industrial.

Except eveyone that enjoys clickbars on the clicky switches. They're good switches, and don't require finicky mods like films and lots of lube to work well.
