I first heard Maggot Brain in this version and it is still my favorite version of the song. I Don't know why, but I find it a lot more emotional then the studio version. I really hope one day it will return to Spotify.
I'm with you and I've seen Maggot Brain played live since 1975. I've see Eddie play it several times. Bit there is something very special about this version. Michael Hampton put his foot into it!
I have to stop myself from listening to this I revisit it annually its is the most powerful and emotional guitar solo I've ever heard I used to sneak and listen to this when I was about 8 years old 😂on a 45 in my grandparents basement now im blasting it wherever this is 🔥
Michael Hampton most underrated guitar player of All Time. He was only a teenager when he played this. The emotions, the skill and fire is outrageously awesome
Watching Michael Hampton emerge from a giant skull and perform this masterpiece at the St. Louis Checkerdome was one of the top five greatest experiences of my life.
@@jeffreyclarkson6432 , The way I figured it, they probably did the same show in every city. I wish I would have had a way to record it for myself. Bootsy was there, too. Bootsy: "Ah, St. Louis, watch ya' been doin'?" Crowd: "We've been stompin' a hole in the floor, 'cause we want MORE, MORE, MORE!"
I was maybe 12yrs old me and my boy at Cobo Hall in Detroit when i first heard this live in concert.. Blew me away then , and blows me away now and I'm 58yrs old now.... WOW!! Shit! Listen to the brother on the bass. Masterpeice ! And go easy
I'm in agreeance with a lot of people. For me this is the best version of this. The original was grewt and ethereal. However it didn't have the bass and drums in the pocket and Bernie Worrel on keys.
Mike was 21 when this wsd releasec.just like eddie was 21 yrars old when they releasef the og version Eddie was 17 when he joined gc Mike was 17 when.he joined
I try to put my notes on every comment on these guys as I can. I met these brothers and smoke a piece pipe, if you know what I mean in columbia sc will never forget thank you
@@adrianwalton6117I know I don't like maggot brain and all the boring white kids who call it the best funk album ever. I didn't expect you to infer that I'm just saying shit
One of my favorite versions. Those quick licks that Michael plays from 6:34 to 6:42 hit me every time. George sent copies of this version to the rock radio stations (hoping they would play it in regular rotation), but they ignored it.

You're probably right
Me n u both bother
This and the 1979 "Butterfly" version in DC are my favorites... both capture something extra that the studio version doesn't
I'm with you and I've seen Maggot Brain played live since 1975. I've see Eddie play it several times. Bit there is something very special about this version. Michael Hampton put his foot into it!
I've listened to so many versions but IMO this is the definitive recording
Naw, Eddie's.
There one with drums hitting way harder. It’s on IG but idk where on RUclips
1979 butterfly version in DC is right there with this
One of the BEST SOLO’S EVER NOTE-FOR-NOTE! 💯
🎯🗑
As a teenager I heard this one before the original. Overtime I learned to appreciate them both! This solo was and still is EPIC!!!
I totally agree..The whole solo sweeps you along with it on a beautiful journey..
@@marquescameron2459 same story here
I just love the interplay between the bass and lead guitar......it's almost Spiritual!!!!
The BEST version of Maggot Brain 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
It is..Just a true experience to listen to..!🇬🇧👍
Love it !!!👍❤️😎
This is the best version of this song

Michael Hampton shreds, slays, dices, chops, fillets
And a bag of Chips with it
That song sends me to another place
Michael Hampton most underrated guitar player of All Time. He was only a teenager when he played this. The emotions, the skill and fire is outrageously awesome
Eddie wrote it but Kidd Funkadelic mastered it and played on the best versions, including this one
Recorded live at the Monroe Civic Center in my hometown, Monroe, Louisiana! "It Ain't Illegal Yet"!!
It’s fucking criminal this album and this cut of Maggot Brain are exclusive to TIDAL. Who tf subscribed to TIDAL
Who da hell is Tidal?

Lucky you, they should have made a video.

I saw it in Atlanta at the Fox Theater. The acoustic in there is perfect, it was awesome

If you get lost in it, it'll stir your soul.
I sense an influence of Hendrix's Machine Gun. Love where he says, "Take your time fellas."
?
Yeah
Everything comes from Hendrix. Especially this style of playing.
ROLLING STONE CONSIDERED THIS SOLO ONE OF THE GREATEST EVER PLAYED!! BAR NONE!! AND MY LAST NAME IS IS (NUNN)!!!!
R U RELATED TO THE LATE GREAT BILL NUNN?
I want this played at my funeral. That’s how much I love this version
Good Idea!! I'm going to steal it😊
I’m certain I listened to this more than most of you jive turkeys 😊
One of the greatest meshing of guitars ever produced and the reason I’ve been plucking riffing licking mine ever since I first heard this track!!!!
I really want to know who played the lead guitar. In this version, is it Eddie Hazel ?
Mike Hampton played this one i think Eddie did the original version on the album
Michael Hampton solo on the live version

I get chills with this version
This is THE ONE right`chea.
No Question.
Bass player and drummer staying in the pocket supporting the lead guitar is what makes this solo very powerful
Rodney "Skeet Curtis" on bass and Tyrone Lampkin on drums.
Every Friday night bout midnight, WMMS,back when I wore younger mans clothes.

I won't argue that point

That's sad. Solo up there with anything that LED Zeppelin or Pink Floyd in NY opinion
This is like "Pink Floyd meets George Clinton" 😍
I lose my mind @3:45
I think that's the point where I start crying...
Just fantastic 😊❤
No one plays like Mike.
No words for this..... ❤
I play lead guitar but Bass and drummers are underrated. I absolutely need them.. kudos to drum and bass players
Best song ever! ❤
