errol gill This song makes me sad then happy then depressed then jubilant but ALL AT THE SAME TIME. Eddie Hazel is a genius in the present tense, not was!!!
Awesome! Your old man was so proud of you for real at that point! Not saying that he was not proud of you before that, but you definitely got his approval that day! Awesome! Reminds me of how I bonded with my dad!
Eddie may have written it, but Michael perfected it. And we are all so lucky to be around for it. The song that made me pick up the guitar and developed me into a musician. 🫡🙏🏻🥲
Greatest guitar solo ever. I seriously get Hendrix like chills.... But deeper. Eddie wrote it....Hampton murdered it like Aretha murdered Carole King's natural woman.
George told Eddie to write a song, with the thought that his Momma had just died.............to this day, EVERY guitar worth their chops has covered this mournful, iconic track, and tried in their own way, to convey, what Eddie had created. None has succeeded. This is Eddie Hazel thinking about his Momma........and making her proud of what his abilities have provided his family.
I don't know what yall know, but this is a classic... and the remake done by Santana (no one else could have pulled it off) is brilliant. Those who dislike this, didn't live in the time it was made, and can't understand the concept behind the music....Eddie and Mike (R.I.P.) contributors to what REAL music is and should be.
Totally agree with all those that said that this is the best rendition of that brilliantly composed instrumental guitar masterpiece by Eddie Hazel that I've heard... so far. And I been listening to each one I can get my hands on. Even after listening to 10 different performances/recordings, it STILL doesn't get old! Play it again, and crank it!
This song is the masterpiece that inspired me to play guitar. Now this is my favorite song to rip on my guitar. Thanks Eddie Hazel for this composition and thanks Michael Hampton for destroying it on this record.
When my mum died i made lyrics to go ever this, i find it hard to listen to now. although it's my favourite song. now i just keep hearing her telling me to go on.
Ditto to the purest high guitar solo in the history of modern music. Funkadelic's eternal Tribute to the late great Jimi Hendrix. Besides Jimi, Hampton, Ernie Isley, and the late Stevie Ray Vaughn were about the only pickers back then, who could master this song verbatim. Long Live the FUNK
TONE AND TIMING IDENTIFIES MY DEAR EDDIE HAZEL FROM ANY OTHER GUITARIST...LETS BE CLEAR ABOUT that among many other techniques like the Well placed (pull-offs)
Along with Mr.Eddie Hazel’s version and the live version from the Summit in Houston Texas played by Mr.Michael Hampton you can’t get any better Michael Hampton did this JUSTICE.
Mike playing like a bunch of bikers dudes riding to a funeral to set a corpse on fire Eddie plays it like the grim reaper about to escort him to hell My opinion anyway
You are correct that this is Hampton but you are incorrect on your assessment of Hazel....Hampton got the job because he played a note for note rendition of Hazels solo
Hampton is great but after eddie returned to basic atoms Hampton struggled with coming up with his own original guitar solos and is known for playing Eddie's leads. The analogy is eddie was god and michael was Moses.
I remember this when I was in the 7th grade. My father said, what is that you playing boy. I said Maggotbrain. He said play it again

Doctor: You only have 5 minutes to live.
Patient: I want to listen to Maggot Brain
Doctor: But that's 8 minutes long.
God: I'll allow it...
Lol!
It was just So Sharp. Must be a Writer.
THE ABSOLUTE BEST GUITAR SOLO EVER
Eddie may have written it, but Michael perfected it. And we are all so lucky to be around for it.
The song that made me pick up the guitar and developed me into a musician. 🫡🙏🏻🥲

I'm 77 and I saw this music the making. I'm so proud of George Clinton for my life of learning. Kudos my brother !!!
Tripin' Eve 2023. Peace.
I really don't care what anyone says, this is theeee best solo guitar piece there is hands down EVER! I remember when I first heard it LIVE, in 1978.
Wish i could hear it live as well. Best piece out there.
Listen to "Who's That Lady" by the Isley Brothers. Ernie Isley rivals Jimmy Hendrix.
Greatest guitar solo ever. I seriously get Hendrix like chills.... But deeper. Eddie wrote it....Hampton murdered it like Aretha murdered Carole King's natural woman.
The best live Instrumental

I’ve told everyone I know - I want this song played at my funeral. That or a traditional second line New Orleans parade
Good call, Marc. Words to live by.

It was originally done by Eddie Hazel but this is Michael Hampton.

Love how Eddie sparked the flames and I love how mike kept the flame going

Mike playing like a bunch of bikers dudes riding to a funeral to set a corpse on fire
Eddie plays it like the grim reaper about to escort him to hell
My opinion anyway

Thank you ✌🦋
7:10 fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
This is Michael Hampton. Don’t think Eddie could rip like this on his best day
You are correct that this is Hampton but you are incorrect on your assessment of Hazel....Hampton got the job because he played a note for note rendition of Hazels solo
Funkadelic
If you think Eddie can't shred check out hardcore jollies, and orbiting attack and the full version of red hot mama Eddie was a true rocker to the end
