Ive done constructuon my whole life... First thing you need to know about mold is it will grow on any organic material... The paper on standard insulation will mold. Peel the paper off or use foam board. I would also stain or treat the upper roof side to repel water if any leaks occur from the roof. When you repair any sheet material break it on a stud/joist/rafter. If you must cut it back more add support on the seam where the sheeting joins together. Always foresee water damage and take precautions to resist mold/rot issues.
After watching DIY RV remodeling clips on RUclips all day. I found you two! My favorite by far, thank you for being you! I laughed and learned at the same time. Here’s to keeping it real 🥰
up at 3 o'clock in the morning can't stop watching you give me inspiration in UK rubbish weather going to buy the stuff for the job for when the weather gets nicer respect
You two are super! I love your can-do/will-do attitude and your willingness to put all of this out in the world for us to see. Hats off to a job well-done!
Thanks for the work not only on the restoration, but on the excellent video work!! Impressive for sure!!! I picked up an old 77 10 foot trailer in need of water damage repair. I think it's manageable and can be done easy on budget. Thanks again, Happy Trails!!
Thank you for the video! We have no idea what we are doing either, we just bought a travel trailer and have to replace the ceiling over one of the bunks! Your video helped tremendously!!!
Great video guys. I too have a motorhome with a leak issue and I am currently undergoing repairs. I'm curious to know how long it took you to repair the mold issue from start to finish.
Fixing to have to tear out the ceiling on my camper to fix a bad leak 😟 Going back through your videos to see how y'all did it . Thanks for showing this 😉👀✌💞🐶💞🐶👍👌😊
What sucks about plywood is that it offgasses formaldehyde 😭 so I would've used something on all sides to seal it up. Usually painting with oil or acrylic-latex paint. Unfortunately you have to paint all sides to prevent the offgasses But thanks for the video! Trying to tackle this myself
How thick is the wood paneling you used? We're doing a similar project in our camper and want to find the strongest and lightest material to replace our walls.
ok, so after 3 months of searching ... we are about to take the plunge and pick up a 1999 class c today! For around the same price as yours. The overcab needs a complete rebuild and we're inspecting it more today before purchasing for additional water damage in the rear and... well everywhere else. Nervous, but thanks for all the videos as it gives us hope that we can do it, too! You all did a fantastic job. Ours is about 11 years newer so keeping my fingers crossed that we have less damage? Will know more today.
Any comments on faced vs. unfaced insulation batts? I'm reluctant to close the ceiling area back in tightly, with no air flow to dry, should other leaks develop in the future - any ideas? Thanks for the video.
Hey Guys ...Love the channel. I am wondering if you could have put a vapor barrier (sheet of plastic) over the insulation before installing the panel. Again you guys are doing great.
+scott mackay Hey Scott. We honestly never even thought about doing that. That's actually a great idea if we ever decide to build a tiny house or something like that. Thank you! We ended up fixing the cause of the leak and plan on being very diligent on maintaining the integrity of the fix. Thanks for the helpful tips! -Michael and Jenny
Agreed. The vapour barrier goes on the warm side of the insulation to keep the moisture from breathing, showers, boiling potatoes etc, from being absorbed by the insulation. Once the insulation becomes water laden it is pretty useless as insulation and becomes a breeding ground for mold and mildew. If vapour barrier has not been put in, then air sealing of all holes and cracks becomes more important and can do a better job that the vapour barrier would have done. . source: www.energyvanguard.com/blog-building-science-HERS-BPI/bid/54110/You-Don-t-Need-a-Vapor-Barrier-Probably
Finally, someone (you:) have clearly explained what a vapor barrier is and how it works. (Will read the link next.) I hope to build out a van one day so this is very helpful information. Thank you! Cheers!
My wife and I have unexpectedly needed to renovate our 86 resort, your videos have helped tremendously. Quick question, was this paneling you on the ceiling the same you used on the walls? Keep up the great work!
You guys are doing the same stuff I have to, you have great music and love the way you make the videos, just wish they were a little longer on the actual doing it part... But keep it up
+Jason Gurganus Thanks for the great comment, Jason. As far as the explanation goes, we would love to show more of the details but aren't sure how many people would find it valuable. Additionally, we have lots of shaky video that may be disorienting to some... In hindsight, we wish would have shot much better video but we are working with what we have. As always, If you have any specific questions that you need answered, please don't hesitate the either ask then in a comment or send us an email at duetjustus@gmail.com. Thanks for following us on our journey! :) -Michael and Jenny Justus
Congrats on the project . But you sure nails for the roof ? I would pass and put some screws. Gravity and wobble are against you on that one. If you want to keep it for long , go for some good ol screws . my grain of sand take it or leave it . good luck guys
Hey guys.. I have been watching all of your videos. We are also renovating our RV. We wanted to ask what kind of paneling you used for the ceiling and then also for the floor.. Thanks
Dude you are a clone of me, its weird watching you, you do the same exact shit i do, including the solar panel except i live next to NY so i get the monocrystaline instead of the polycrystaline at 118$FS per 100Watts I just wanted to know how i take the windows out on mine i have everything else off. Its so funny. You do the same exact things i am doing with minor differences. I think in real life you would be my best friend. OK one hint i want you to implement i think you will enjoy the result. Go to walmart, but Plasticoat black, spray your campers RUBBER TIRES on the outside and inside and everywhere the rubber is. Instead of putting on the old people covers. You will find that it is a superior idea, it protects the tire at the same time it males it look like brand new tire. OR OR a new product i have now if you dont want to have the option of peeling it off like tape basically, DG makes leak seal black rubber coating as well. Im trying it out today, but i love plasicoat its 5$ it will cover 2 tires, it preserves the rubber from drying out and it also looks like rubber sticking to the tire until you want to peel it off later in time or drive on it as it makes it driveable instantly. Its amazing shit you need to get it today. You can also reinforce speakers with it. Also get a thing of QuickSteel to have on hand for your exhaust joints if they become noisy. If you have not used Quick steel puddy yet i need you to get some and just play with it, then try to burn it and drill it smash it, a whole world will open up in your mind. You make good videos, your a great editor. I do the same thing not on this account though i have 2 others.
Also Home depot sells a product in a metal bottle its called wood hardener, you poor it on crap wood and it becomes ultra hard and water resistant, its 10$ and its magic, once it touches wood the wood no matter what kind of ply wood, it absorbs it like a sponge, becoming rock hard. Check it out the 3 products will really improve the end goal or fixes. Have you ever used gorilla glue, the kind that requires water to activate, its perfect for wet wood areas.
Hey man! No, we've never tried the Gorilla Glue. There is a lot of great info in here. Thank you! That's awesome about the similarities haha... are you renovating an RV? -Michael

Harbor fright sells a brad nailer for about $20, you guys needed one
Why didn't you use closed cell spray foam? It's a better R value, vapor barrier, sound proofing, and adds structural support.
Had me wondering about the insulation at first! Nice job guys.
Thanks for the work not only on the restoration, but on the excellent video work!! Impressive for sure!!! I picked up an old 77 10 foot trailer in need of water damage repair. I think it's manageable and can be done easy on budget. Thanks again, Happy Trails!!
Thank you for the encouragement and for following along. Wish you the best 🙂

what could go wrong? I need this information!
So glad to see you protect your lungs!
Very helpful video thank you!
aw! Hey team work makes the dream work
Yes it does! 😊
I agree about showing more of what you had to do. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the feedback. We are working hard to get those videos made :-)
This is awesome, I kinda got to help my friend renovate hers which was fun, but wish I had someone to help me do mine like this haha!
Nick , thanks for your comment , I didn’t know that either
Would spray foam work in place of the insulation??? hate that stuff😷😷😷
Thank you for this video.

What type of paneling did you use?
Have you been factoring in the weight of the things you are installing?
How thick is the wood paneling you used? We're doing a similar project in our camper and want to find the strongest and lightest material to replace our walls.
I believe it is 8mm panel wood
Thank you for the video! So helpful.
Great job, you two...nice to see "Wilson" at the end. lol...

I love the pause in the music when something fell .😂😂😂😂

Why didn't you fix the plywood decking on the roof?

She is such a trooper. I'm very thankful :-)
Born 2live how many wives do you have?
My wife and I have unexpectedly needed to renovate our 86 resort, your videos have helped tremendously. Quick question, was this paneling you on the ceiling the same you used on the walls? Keep up the great work!
are you going to paten the new wind sail? LOL it's nice to see the step by step

Thanks for the speedy reply, well either way you have a guaranteed sub and watcher of your channel!! I enjoy it.
Yes thank you for removing the shaky video, I am one of those who get motion sick easy. Thanks for the great videos.
Congrats on the project .

mizzou represent!
Hey guys.. I have been watching all of your videos. We are also renovating our RV. We wanted to ask what kind of paneling you used for the ceiling and then also for the floor.. Thanks
I'm pretty sure it was a standard 4x8' 8mm paneling from Home Depot
It looks like floor underlay
Diggin' the baby hammer.
Lol
Wait this doesn't look hard or expensive at all unless you run into bigger issues.
You guys are funny🙂😜
Where did you purchase the wood panels at
Hey! I would like to know what kind of wood you use between the support beams and the body,
before putting the insulation? Thanks :)
No glue use screws or both
The music thooo on point
I would have used screws rather than nails. Save you a lot of work and won't shake loose while traveling.
Good enough.
Haha. Yep! That about sums it up lol
2:50 3:48 2x
I would rather use Styrofoam glued to the roof or even better, closed cell spray foam insolation.
Not a good idea wearing short sleeve or tang tops while installing insulation. ITCHY & SCRATCHY
what no more videos
We have tons 😊
Please put up more!!!
The actual ' I have no idea what I'm doing" line is a total winner!!!
You a Brad nailer as a minimum

You can tell you have no ides what your doing
u forgot to prime it
You can use paint with primer in it
NEVER use nails in an RV
What should be used instead and why do you say that especially since the manufacturers use them in some plsces?
Lol
