I'm going through a rehab of my 87 Chevy Lazydaze and found an old leak that was patched over on the back corner where the bed is. It's quite a demolition but I have a metal frame. It's well built and runs great. I've rehabbed most of it and want to be able to sell it in the near future. I'd like to make sure it's road ready again!
Very professional video - I especially love the commentary with your GREAT tips. My trailer looks like this and I am following along working along to this video. I must say this is exactly what the Doctor ordered and you are SAVING ME TIME AND MONEY thks so much for your time that went into making these videos.
Wow! These videos are so well done that I may decide I can tackle some of my issues in my Class C. I'm scared to death, honestly. Single middle-aged very overweight and (the truth will set you free) lazy woman. Fulltiming. RV is disintegrating around me. Have to face it and beat back the deterioration. She runs good and appliances are great. I just don't know how structurally sound she is and she leaks bad, depending on how I'm parked.
The repairs can be challenging and a bit overwhelming at first but you can do sections to keep things easier. I think your top priority is to stop the leaks. They will eat your RV fast. Even if you just use some flex seal and go crazy on seams, windows and roof areas until you can properly reseal the roof and walls with the correct materials. Any method to stop the water leaks now would be beneficial. Most motor-homes have a metal frame which resist water leaks far better than wood frames but structural damage will occur with water infiltration. Good luck and happy camping. Jim

Your 3 part series was very helpful. I've watched and read quite a bit around the web, unfortunately much of the content is quite poor. These videos however were very well done and helped me feel much more confident about tackling the project! Thank you.
Very very well done video Thank You Love that you spoke as you ran through the video quick time lapse Looking forward to the other videos I’m going to have to do this to my 87 Toyota Winnebago Itasca due to water leaking around the front lights and windows Thank You Again

Great channel man. Been watching your solar/ac video for years now. Prices have dropped and getting started. Should've been subbed to your channel. Thanks for the info package thoughtfully and clearly. Will be checking out the rest of your vids. Good work man!
Hey Jim, I've been thinking why dont we use exterior primer the wood on the paneling backside, inside walls, ect.., why leave it bare. If it had some protection the water damage wouldnt be so catastrophic. Pros, cons?
I don't see any reason why you couldn't paint the Interiors of the walls for added protection. However I think the main objective is to keep water out of the inside of the RV and therefore painting the insides of the walls would just add weight, cost time, money and hopefully never be necessary.
What do you suggest for sealing the wood in a similar project? I’m replacing the wall around my slide out due to water damage. I noticed the wood that was sealed with something black, was not damaged hardly at all. Do you know what that is? It appears to be a rubbery sealant. I want to seal these new structural beams with that. Can’t anyone suggest something that would work well for this?
I am rebuilding mine and was pleasantly surprised to learn that i have the steel framing also.im rebuilding the overhead on my 1990 jamboree rallye where did you find the paneling.i want to go back with similar.im also going to treat the rust like you did
Very nice video. Thank you. Quick question, where was the leak? I have a small leak but couldn't see any water coming in. I did see a black line on the outside of the RV after it stopped raining. Just to stop the leak I tried some black tape that was recommended at Lowe's and I am hoping I identified the leak. We will see. Next, I plan to do what you did if necessary. Was wondering where your leak was. Thanks again and God bless.
I do a bedroom remodel video where I take the windows out and reseal them. But basically you just remove all the screws and the outer window should just pop off and you can reseal it.
Use kilz mildew and mold primer. Also they have a brand called bullseye. I would stick to the oil based stuff and have plenty of ventilation when priming it.
Did you seriously not take that window out and re-seal it with new butyl tape? Where did you think that water was coming from? Not being a smart ass, just curious.

How do you know when to remove old wood? Or structure? Besides the obvious of wood falling apart and dark.

Same here, otherwise the old girl overheats! However, she runs beautifully at 45-55mph. Really upsets the people behind us! 🤣

I found my paneling at Home Depot. It changes from season to season but that's where I got mine. Ji.

Its possible to relocate the wires wired outlets, and ac heater control panels?
Yes, that is very possible. However, if you're not comfortable with RV electrical you may want to hire professional.. jim

Any recommendation for the "rotting wood" smell? Can't seem to get rid of it.

If you're driving with a camper at 80 MPH you deserve it to disintegrate.
