Thank you all for watching!
See you next time.
Must chilly, considering the steam coming off that guys noggin!😀
Pete was 'full steam ahead' working there. At first I thought he'd caught fire.
Transom is looking really good.
Hey Finn good to see you again. It was amazing to see the steam coming off Pete's head. It really gives a sense of the low tempurature in the shop. Pete is literally putting his Spirit into your boat.
Two first's for me,
1/ Little tornado's of steam coming from peter's head never ever seen that before.
2/ Using a heat gun with fibre glass looks like a good trick.
Cheers from down under
Every boat building channel could use a ‘Pete’.
Pete, Pete and re-pete
Just like every machine shop needs an Al.
My goodness, it is cold! Pete has steam rising off his head!
I just love that smoking head at 09:11 and on!
Getting some paint on your boat will make a big difference. Thanks for the update.
Cheers from Sequim mate, nice to see your progress.
Your boat is starting to look pretty snappy! Really impressed with how you've rebuilt the stern.
Poor Pete, working that hard his head was steaming!
@09:11 Pete really needs to wear a watchman's cap-he is losing heat so bad he looks like Indian smoke-signals!
@10:18 I am appalled that Pete is cutting off the surplus glas matting with a grinder, without eye-protection!
@10:40 Good on yew, MickeyFinn: full Haz-Mat suit to grind the surface of the 'poxey!
Kudos to Epoxy UK Ltd for participating in the project and giving such a great tutorial-as well as noting the benefits of using a vegetable-based product which, despite being an epoxy, is more environment-friendly (and Finn points out) than any of the common products.
Steaming Pete using a heat gun. A new technique to me, good to learn something new.
👍👌👏 Dear Finn.
Very well done again and as always (video and work). Congrats for having Epoxy- Pete in your shop.
As always: Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and health to all involved people.
Post Scriptum: A video released from Finn and one from Leo Goolden on the same day. A lot of great boat work to watch.
Hi Finn, another step completed, Pete was a lovely guy..... Artisan.... soundtrack as ever is top class.... tks, Eamonn
I see Pete wears the same style of jumper as me....I really must get into the habit of removing the good ones BEFORE starting any work!
Another great video... you are doing a grand job mate.
Thanks for the video Finn, like others here I enjoy watching your progress. Thanks Pete for the time and effort you so generously gave to the project.
Wish I was in the UK so I could put some time on this Smack. Good folk Finn. Stay safe!
You've had temperature drop Finn. We've had mad hoolies down in west Cornwall.
Most anticipated channel on the tube. Thanks so much.
That was just great Finn-I am really glad the job part was done. I will say as I saw PETE sand without a mask he has not long to live though. However, your boat does show your usual talent for Precise building. Finn, keep up with the great work! Thanks for sharing. Stay well. Rich
Great to see whar you are up to Finn. Excited for the next steps!!! Great soundtrack also😁
Can’t believe you’re less than 100, subs. Great content. I would suggest a collaboration. You channel deserves so much more. Hang in there and Gods blessings.
Looking good. Try using some peel ply over your glass work. Leaves a nice smooth fine textured finish - less sanding, less fairing. I’ve used it a lot and can recommend it…
I see Pete keeps many of his epoxy samples on the front of his jumper. Easy to hand I suppose and difficult to lose 🙃
Thanks for the video Finn.
Like the music 👍
Looks like a good product....let us know how it works out. Get Pete a stocking cap!
Nothing better than some free help and products. That's awesome!
Progress is progress. Great to see some vegetable-based epoxies working so well.
Thanks for that. First I’ve heard of this type of epoxy, nice to see the boat coming along. Cheers
The clean lines of the stern are awesome. Love the smooth look, and knowing how expertly and strongly the wood beneath was built. When faired and painted, if you could find an early shot of the stern before any renovation, and put a finished shot from the same angle beside it would make a fantastic freeze-frame for printing!
Cheers from Melbourne Australia
Great to see some good progress on the stern Finn.👍
Hey Pete, whatcha doing ?
Haha
Can this one put his feet on backwards too?
good stuff
Good progress in difficult conditions.
👍😊 Nice !
Next time, we expect a, "Hey Pete, what'cha working on?"
Yet another fascinating video, I am inspired by your persistence, cheers.
~9:12 - ~9:50... How freaking cold is it in the shop? There's actual steam coming off that bald head! Cripes, man!
Looks like a great epoxy product! But just a reminder that just because a product does not smell doesn't mean it is safe to inhale. One of the primary products of the curing of epoxy is the plastic Bisphenol-A (BPA), which does not inherently have a scent. Because BPA dissolves into fat cells, it accumulates in your body over the course of your life and does not get excreted. Further, BPA disrupts hormones, and can cause issues like infertility, breast cancer, and other problems. In fact, because of the harm caused by inhaling BPA, scent-less epoxy can be more dangerous because you do not know when it is in the air.
Because of this, I personally would have worn a respirator when using epoxy for a whole day of glass work. This is not to say Finn and Pete did anything wrong by not wearing respirators! Everyone can make their own decisions on personal safety -- this post is just meant to provide background so that anyone who's reading this can make an informed decision.
If this was my channel I'd have given more of a reply than a little love heart. Thanks for the information, I'm about to start a little fibreglass project myself.
Thanks for posting and sharing. Glad to hear that you’ve been able to use an environmentally safer product!
Looks like a great product always good to see more progress on this boat. have a good one Finn.
Nice product. The job you are doing looks fantastic.
Great video Finn, the boat lines are simply beautiful. Cant wait for the next video !
You've made a great job of that transom and stern Finn. The boats lines look great. Always look forward to a new video from you.
Always enjoy the videos. Thanks for making them.
Believe i seen this gentleman's product used on artic sea camel's channel. It was cold and he was having issues with chemical epoxy and they gave him a deal on some of their products and it seemed to work great.. seemed like you have more time and you're not all covered up wearing a respirator etc.
Hey Finn... Buy Pete a Dust Mask for Christmas!!!!!!!
and Goggles for New Years!!!!!
Don't know much about boats or epoxy for that matter but I can say I've used MAS Table Top epoxy with great success on a few projects.
Have you guys seen manmade Basalt rebar and Matting ... It was developed for replacing steel rebar in reinforced concrete structures like domes especially in a marine environment ..as it lighter than Stainless and doesnt corrode when exposed to water and salt.
Theres a new generation Catamaran being produced using it in combination with Recycled PET plastic.
Basalt re enforcement as rods mesh ropes or fibers would make concrete hull construction
Impervious to the steel concrete cancer corrosion that has been their traditional vunerabillity.⛵
Keeper going bud
Thanks Finn. I love your work, dude.
That was a very long day you both put in. Looking forward to seeing you again.
Enjoyed the video. Not sure if you have but can you give some information on the hull design/ designer size etc. Thank you.
Nice work, Pete. 09:04 you can actually see his brain burning :-D
Crikey it must have been cold in there, it looked like his head was smoking!
Very interesting 🤔👍🙂
Nice work Finn!
Great to see progress, I too think that Ferro makes this a novel channel to watch. Hadn’t expected Ferro and epoxy in combo but makes sense. Not sure I understood the difference in strength, uv etc etc differences of uk epoxy
Enjoyed thanks for posting 👍
Go Finn Go!!! Looking great!
You did a great job!
Well done Finn. Enjoyed the video. Stay safe
Your editing is getting to be really good Finn. You should try and stretch it to 25 minutes. We would love the content and you can put two ads on it.
That’s really awesome. Interested I that epoxy
interesting vid Finn, and great to see use of more environmentally friendly materials which i may have use for myself, - i know you supplied link to Pete's website, but i didn't catch the actual name of the product being used, and wasn't sure what to look for when navigating Pete's site - just a small detail, i have used some of these plant based resins myself but found to be expensive and for small quantities - so interested on price comparison, cheers for vid, keep em coming and try keep warm, we had snow on costa del south coast
This is such a cool project, it's so informative. and entertaining!!
I know your very busy, but it would be great to see you back on the TallyHo working with Leo and the gang💪🏼.
You should give him a telly
Holy crapoly! Awesome to see you sir. Can’t get out vids fast enough. Love your project.
I really like what you're doing. Great job.
Great job well done. she's really looking good now.
Nice 2 see u back..
Is good to see you up and vlogging Finn.! Looking good mate!
💪🏼👍🏻🙏🏻❤️
your boat has great lines. Nice work.
Nice job you guys
Thanks Finn, that episode was right on time for me. I recently had my first encounter with ferro Crete and am happy to have another arrow in the quiver for this strange (to American's) but interesting composite. I've been following you since Tally Ho and quite like your style. Pete was an interesting guest with many of the same concerns and limitations as myself so... Thanks to you both. Keep up the good work and good on ya Mate.
Thanks mate
Thanks for sharing
Cheers,, 🍻😎👍!
Great music 😎
good job very nice
looks good Fynn! I think it would be nice to get a sense of the area/neighborhood/city your shop is in. Maybe you could take us for a bit of a walkabout some time. great vids, nice work, cheers!
Good on you Finn - glad the channel is getting recognition from the likes of Pete and EpoxyUK. Nice progress on the boat in the crazy COVID-19 dominated world we're in; the channel serves to get us away from it. See it must be considerably colder of late - Pete was litteraly steaming as he worked. Keep at it and good luck.
WHAT is this I see??? Finn of KnotFINNished Yet using a "FINN Roller??" CHEERS from Canada
A bit worried that Pete is wearing his pullover inside out! (check the label).
Is the heat gun only for use in cold climates or is it recommended for any climates. I am in Brisbane Australia - semi-tropical climate?
Absolutely mate, getting resin hot assists getting bubbles out of deeper pours or layers a helps it run to wet out matting.
Don't be scared of heating it.
Don't boil it obviously! But you can get it pretty warm!!
Whatya upto and what products are you using?
@@bushratbeachbum I use off brand epoxy here in Brisbane. I normally don't have any issues with it running in fact the opposite because it is usually very warm here. I'll keep it up my sleeve though in the event I need to do some work in winter or if it is cooler than normal. My usual work is repairs to my trimaran (part owner) built from Western Red Cedar strip planks and epoxy glass.
He was using it to lower the viscosity of the resin as he was wetting out because it was so cold. It might also go some way toward starting the curing process. You have to watch it though when you're working on already cured fiberglass - you can cause the underlying layers to delaminate if they get too hot.
This is Pete, I think he slept in a skip last night.
I like a Man who wears his work and the Steam off Pete’s head was epic!
Good job son.
Hiya Finn
Is the heat gun required because of the nature of the product or the temperature when you were laying the glass?
Great video. Lines are really looking good. Did i miss credits for music? nice and works well with the relentlessness of the epoxy work!
Thank you, I had completely forgot to credit the music. I shall edit, will show in the video description 👍
Grafting so hard his scalp is choochin.
👍!!
nice
The nice thing about ferro crete is there's virtually no maintenance required for the hull compared to wooden boats. Am I right?
Is the heat gun while using the roller because it is cold?
Two reasons, firstly you are correct, it is because it’s very cold In the workshop, 6 degrees Celsius. But it also helps with the flowing of the resin. Warming it up thins it down allowing it to soak into the cloth easier.
noice!
It must have been very cool in the shed. You could see the moisture coming off Pete's head as he worked. Thank you Finn and Pete. Have a good week ahead.
Question: What is the epoxy brand you were using? Pete's site shows MAS but not a 2:1 ratio mix. Is the same epoxy available in the US? Thanks all.
It was very cold indeed.
The epoxy we used was MAS low viscosity resin. And the medium and fast hardener all 2:1. Should be listed on his site
@@knotfinnishedyet9170 Thank you Finn. Have a good weekend ahead and stay warm.
I made a mistake in saying Pete was from epoxy Uk ltd, this is incorrect, his company is actually EPOXY.LTD
@@knotfinnishedyet9170 Thank you Finn.
You didn't mention what you thought of the product. How were the fumes, cleanup etc were. I have not seen before using a heat gun while spreading resin, is that because it is vegetable based or just because it was so cold ?
I will be doing a full review in another video once I have completed the glassing, the heat gun can be used with epoxy for a couple of reasons. It helps lower the viscosity to help it flow into the cloth easier. It also helps activate the curing process is colder climates.
