- Episode 23
In this episode i begin by marking out and cutting the bevels of the aft face of the transom knees to allow a snug fitting of the transom boards.
Once i have the knees shaped its time to get some temporary fixings in place to allow for the next stages.
Once secure i am able to make a start at scribing and shaping the first transom board.
Finishing up with getting the two transom board glued together and clamped back in place on the boat to allow the next steps to take place. The Bulwarks!!!

Well done Finn. The editing and music are better than ever, only surpassed by the quality of your work. It is a joy to watch such craftsmanship!
Gotta love a squealing hand plane. I really enjoy watching your work.
Pulling some nice curls off that Transom laddie! Nothing like the swish sound of a fresh sharpened plane taking its first swipes. You do real nice work Finn.
There’s a lot of hard and accurate work stuffed into that little video. Looks great so far.
Hi Finn, your skill and determination shines through in this video, as it has in all the others. I just know that your finished yacht will be beautiful. Congratulations on taking over somebody else's failed project and bringing it to life.
Nice work Finn. Can’t wait to see the finished transoms. It’s such an import part of the boats look.
Nice work on the transom Finn. Thanks for the update.
As always it is quality work. The transom is looking very nice. Well done and keep up the progress.
I can still remember the difficulty you had dismantling the badly damaged transom to now a very impressive replacement. Joe
You and Leo have the best taste in music!
Just found your channel and quite enjoying it. Back in the 70's when I was a teenager, I worked in a "yard" making ferro krete sailboats. I put yard in quotes because basically, it was just a fenced off field next to the estuary in Oakland, California. These were all owner built boats and every one of the owners was planning to sail the world. I don't know how many ultimately did but occasionally I see one still around . . . VERY occasionally.
You truly are a talented & skilled craftsman and can wait to see you launch.
I love watching you work, Finn. No fanfare or gimmicks, just honest, meticulous graft. Thanks for sharing.
Not finished yet? Haha, good on you mate. Talk about perfection. You certainly set high standards.
The Transom is coming together really well Finn, Great Job! bud, Cheers. have a good one Eh!
Always glad to see another video pop up. Thanks Finn.
So good to see you moving along! Your wood working talent is just finite and great! Glad to wish you a "Great Job!" Rich
Fin, really nice work! I love the side notes that detail the determination of angle cuts.
Awesome to follow along sir. Enjoyed it as always

Another great video. Looking forward to the next one!
Keep gettin at it! Awesome work.....
Another episode with really superb joinery, thoroughly enjoying the journey!
Looking solid!
Beautiful job well done!.
Looking good!
Looking good Finn...cheers rr Normandy, Fra.
I wonder why you need two more knees on that transom. The two there are massive and the planks are beefy too. Seems like two more would just be something to trip over on the deck, and more maintenance and risk of deck leaks. Great work as always.
Great job
Enjoy your vlog immensely, keep up the good work.
Great work Finn! Looking forward for the next episode. Thanks for sharing, best of luck on this awesome project.
The boat and the videos coming along nicely.
Great work, Finn. She's getting along nicely!
Thanks for the content...cheers mate!)
Pretty good job!!
Well done Finn. I really enjoy your project and videos. Keep up the great work.
Thanks! Nice work. How about a short tour of the entire boat?
Great work Finn. Thanks for anther fine video.
Dear Finn.
👍👌👏 The transom is already looking really good! Very well done again and as always (video and work). Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards, luck and health.
I just discovered your channel. Lovely work from a new subscriber. Kudos from Canada
Good job mate
good stuff
Good progress! Excellent work!
Love watching well planned fitting,
Thank you for this awesome video, carefully shot and edited, you improved a lot in filmmaking, it's a joy to se you at work - excellent!
Wow, Great Job Finn!! coming along nicely on the boat and moving up to another level on video production.
Excellent work Finn!
Great work as always Finn, look forward to the next step.
Nice one bruh! Do ya really need the two center transom knees? Nice space back there now with flat deck. The two outboard knees are massive. Seems like they are strong enough.
Just thinking out loud man.
Keep it going!!
I like your thinking, it is something I have thought about.
At some point in the build I'd love to hear you thoughts on the durability, maintenance, or other issues of ferro-cement hulls. Across the pond most buyers here avoid ferro-cement because they were never commercially produced, so they were almost always one-off builds and there isn't any consistency of the techniques or material. For sure there is no consistency in the information. My limited knowledge tells me it was more common method in UK built working vessels so I'm thinking there is better information and techniques from the shipwrights whom are more familiar.
As to durability! Powell River British Columbia, Canada has a number of ferro-cement hulks anchored out as a break water for the pulp mill. They were built during the 2nd world war but never commissioned. Still floating.
Looking good Finn!
Hi Finn cheers from Sequim.
A little advice. Try to get some lights in your workshop. It will radically change the quality of your videos.
Awesome vid kid 👌
great work !
Great workmanship Finn......:)
Respect. Thank You Finn
👍nice
Nice job!!
Coming along nicely Finn and thanks for using correct terminology such as 'aft face' instead of what people normally say such as 'back side' ! Even Leo has been known to pander to the Americans on occasion by ignoring correct terminology.
How DARE Leo commit such a horrid crime. Will it be necessary to keelhaul him or will flogging suffice.?
nice work.
Nice work Finn!
Thanks Finn 👍👌🍺🇬🇧
Looks good from over here in the states. Ha Ha
👍👍 Nice !
fantastic Finn. Can we get a side-on shot of the boat? just to see the profile and the progress. Or did I miss it lol
Cheers 👍 check out some of the earlier episodes. But yes I will be adding some more visual shots to future videos
@@knotfinnishedyet9170 I've seen them all and I really like the channel. I guess I'm requesting an orbit shot for the sake of seeing the progress of each step along the way. Looking forward to more.
Great work as always. I also have a ferro boat , you will need a thick skin with our sailing brothers as there is a lot ferro haters out there but I think you are up to the task. :)
Thank you! Great to hear, what kind of boat? It’s a shame they have a bad rep, if you get a well built bill they are just as good as anything else
@@knotfinnishedyet9170 Hi Finn; A company in Sacramento Fibersteel made 38 x 55 ft sailboats using a floating mold that was sunk to release the hull. They also developed what they called laminated ferro cement which uses expanded metal lath in a layup just like glass cloth. The mold was spayed and the lath placed then another thin layer of mix until they had the desired thickness. This process avoids voids which can be a problem with traditional FC and also allows a vey low water content mix which reduces porosity .
Mine is hull number 6 built in 1974.The wife unit and I have been living aboard for five years. I hope our paths cross one day someplace.
Great video Finn. Thanks for sharing. There aren't any channels about concrete boats. Can you do an educational video about how the concrete boat is built and the status of the concrete? is the concrete need any work? how is the concrete attached to the frames? can you fix it with epoxy if needed? is the metal in the concrete still there? is it rusted? Thanks.
Thank you!! Noted, I will try to include some detailed explanations of their construction
Hey Finn, nice vid bro. you don't know me but anyway, keep up the good work!
Hiya Finn
👍!!!
Ah yes a little Hade Bluegrass?
Looks like you may want to check your fit Finn
Soak all your wood bits (especially endgrains) in flexible epoxy resin.
You have temporarily spaced the transom off the deck with plywood spacers (10mm?), is that for a scupper or will the board be fitted flush with the deck?
If flush, then what are you intending to do about scuppers for drainage?
This is coming along. nicely. Nice job.
Hello, you are right, the 12mm plywood spacers are to keep the transom off the deck, one fitted ply will be removed of course, leave a full scupper along the stern
Nice work Finn.
An uneducated question/statement, those transom boards I noticed were not quarter sawn, will they not cup?
When you get your boat finished its almost a guarantee that you will have either a boat company or private individuals asking you to finish out they're hulls.. do you know of any manufacturers who still are willing to build a ferro hull and sell it for the customer to finish?? I know that you can have companies here in America build you just the hull and filled keel.. cape George 36 is 37k without the decks or interior.. just a thick fiberglass hull and weight in the keel
