That’s the importance of vitamin d3 and K2 ( mk7). I’m not sure why doctors are not recommending a vitamin d test for everyone. I’ve been taking it for 5 years now , got my levels up to 70 and all my aches have disappeared and I haven’t had a cold or Covid or flu ! I’m 64 and have never felt better ! I hope your Mom can continue to improve but maybe it would be a good idea to get those levels checked. Every little bit helps.
@@maritakochis7102 She does so on the regular. She is currently resting with a broken foot and the x-rays still indicated "osteoporosis" / it is better for her, but she still never can get off the bisphosphonates. Vitamin D can only do so much when you actually have osteoporosis!
I use sunblock. Ever since I had cancer. Sun is much more dangerous now. However, I started trying collagen for my joints. As I'm on blood thinners and can't take pain pills. I take my collagen, with vitamin C and Hyluronic Acid. It has kept my hair darker.. When I'm off it. I find my joints kill me. My hair turns more grey with some white. I do not drink or smoke. I'm soon to be 72. I look much younger even without makeup. I use 50 SPF sunblock as well. Soooooo I hate to shoot you down. But it really has helped my joints. Greatly. Skin and hair was just a plus for me.
After having a baby around 3 months I dealt with serious hair loss. Blood work all came back normal. I diligently took collagen for several months and saw absolute no hair loss and my re growth is amazing. I understand post partum hormone levels can even out and eventually hair loss will stop but I contribute my collagen supplementation a key factor in helping the amount of shedding I had. I highly recommend it to post partum women.
Anemia is often seen in women with heavy periods and postpartum. I suggest checking ferritin level as well, I have suffered from low level for a while now and symptoms can be quite diverse, the worst being severe headaches and dizziness, drastic hairfall etc
Regarding estrogen, be very careful. If a woman has a uterus (some have had hysterectomies) estrogen will thicken the uterine wall. This is the reason there is a slightly higher risk of cancer with hrt. Estrogen alone is good for women without a uterus. If a woman still has a uterus, it is a good idea to include a bit of progesterone to stop the thickening of the uterine lining.
I adore your way of expressing yourself, and your knowledge of this science, you don’t turn around with nonsense that we find everywhere else, continue the marvelous work.
I have extreme dry eye and was using very expensive eye drops. I started taking a collagen supplement and my eyes are 99% better. I will never stop taking a collagen supplement. It has also helped my hair. Supplements cannot hurt!!
I started taking collagen powder in my tea because I thought it would cure my acne (before I found Dr. Dray). I don’t think I’ve seen any changes in my skin, but I’m convinced it contributes to my hair growth and my nail health.
I’ve heard that increasing fiber will help with acne because it is helping in eliminating excess estrogen and also helping blood sugar which helps hormones
I've taken collagen for years for my joints. I don't feel it's done anything for my skin, but it's done great for my joints. Thanks for another great upload. 👍
It might help skin a bit but I KNOW it makes my hair and nails and hair grow faster. I have to do my roots every 6 weeks (about 1/2 inch growth). Nails don’t break or get tears on sides
I have worn sunscreen daily since about the 4th or fifth grade and my mother was always good about making me wear sunscreen when I was out in the sun, which really wasn't that often. Even so, I began to develop skin issues at 24, which was difficult and I have never really been happy with my skin since. In my late twenties I was diagnosed with Vitamin D definciency and I think it must have been quite severe because I felt achy throughout my body. After my Vitamin D levels were restored, I began to feel much better. I have always wondered, though, how to balance the need for Vitamin D with skin protection since they say you need to be in the sun for your body to make Vitamin D. Also, spending some time outdoors has a psychological benefit, at least for me. I would love to hear your thoughts on this in a future video. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. I always enjoy your videos!
Agreed. I wish there was more nuance in her opinions on sun exposure. Also there are varying skin complexions and UV rays are different at different latitudes. I imagine the damage is far worse for someone with light skin living in California than someone like me in vancouver where there is no sun. I need all the sun I can get here ! Also became vit D deficient from living here the last 4 years, have seen immense benefits overall since taking 4000 IU per day for about 3 months now
Sun is life. Our body needs it for optimal health. It regulates our sleep which is mentioned as being important. But no mention of how to get that sleep. Check out circadian rhythm and how light exposure regulates it. Also Vitamin C is very important.
@@Kelly-pp1et sorry but i don't believe it. Show me those studies! Of course, a very little bit of radiation penetrates through sunscreen but far not enough. So you will have to supplement Vit.D! After two weeks in sunny Spain wearing sunscreen i had a severe Vit.D-deficiency.
My hair and nails started growing like crazy after taking collagen. I always have worn sunscreen but that didn’t effect my hair and nails like collagen did. My joints feel wonderful as well. I’m 58. No arthritis or joint pain. Try it.
I am 60 years old now and grew up in the sun fishing with my family on the boat in the ocean and sunscreen was unheard of. I also did a ton of sunbathing. We lived on the lake and I vacationed in the sun and had Tanlines all year round. I only used Hawaiian Tropic sun oil. I got very dark. Now it’s 60 and I have a little fine lines all over my face. I also had basal cell carcinoma skin cancer on my chest. None of this showed until later on down the road. My doctor told me that the skin cancer on my chest must’ve started a long time ago. I am not particularly light-skinned either I have a medium light medium skin. But I roasted myself and never put anything on my face. In fact I am surprise I look as good as I do probably because I take good care of it. So people listen up to this lady she knows her stuff!
Dr. Dray, you are so thorough and knowledgeable it is very interesting to listen to you. I appreciate all the info on aging. I am 60 and people think I am late 40’s. I don’t wear sunscreen, some in my makeup, however; I have been using quality/same makeup for 45 years, do not sunbath my face and always wear a hat. I sleep well and eat fairly decent. I have a little sagging of jowls but I have no wrinkles. I did start taking a collagen supplement too early to see improvement if any to be had. My mom has used same makeup for 45 years and she is 80, and people think she is late 60’s, little jowl sagging and no wrinkles. Some may be genetics, no sunbathing the face and excellent quality makeup line and never went to bed wearing makeup.
I find short sun exposure to be beneficial for me. I sunbathe without sunblock for about half an hour early mornings . I do use sunscreen for the rest of the day, daily. I don’t burn easily, I have no history of skin issues like cancers etc, neither does my family, plus I have brown skin. I am approaching 50 and I think I look pretty good. I don’t take any collagen supplement as I am vegetarian. This works for me. I love my morning sunbathes it is very healing
I'm in my mid 40s and have never used sunblock a day in my life. It's true... The sun is your friend. Even when I took my kids swimming when they were young I didn't want their bodies covered in chemicals so I always planned swimming later in the day when the UV rays were no longer an issues which was around 6pm. We did that every couple days, it was a blast🥳🥳.
Dr. D. You are one of my favourite dermatologists. Thank you for going in to depth with what, when, why, how in your videos and just blatantly telling us how you feel. Thank you, thank you.
It’s so true. My family complained about me for being too fair and not being healthy at all. I avoided sun all these years due to migraines but I took their advice - I wanted to look less fair so I started exposing myself to the sun these two years and I didn’t use sunblock religiously like before. Then I got tanned but I noticed I started looking old. 😖😖😖 I have compared my old pictures to the latest pictures, my skin has changed from a darker shade to a lighter shade, my wrinkles especially under my eyes look obvious and there more side effects due to sun exposure. Anyway, I will try avoid the sun as much as I can now.
While driving in rush our every day, I actually wore a UV and infrared mask and run the A/C on my face. With that and sunscreen everyday, I reversed my hyperpigmentation on my face and a few wrinkles actually reversed.
You got me on the sleep! Still working on that. All other areas are golden. I take collagen more for my hair. I've seen great results that way. I've never seen results in my skin no matter which brand I've tried. You are a great help!
I take this brand of Collegan Peptide for my arthritis, not so much for my skin. It seems to help. For my skin, retinoid, sunblock+moisturizer is the way to go.
I’m taking HRT (after a surgical hysterectomy from cervical cancer,I’m 41 years old and was diagnosed at 39 years old)and going through surgical menopause I seen a difference in my skin.
I started watching Korean, Japanese and Chinese beauty gurus when I was 24 They are so big on sunscreen. Glad I did because they were the ones who got me into always wearing sunscreen. I am 36 now and always have sunscreen on hand.
As a Taiwanese, I can tell you why sunscreen is such a big deal in east Asia. It all about the needs to have WHITE SKIN. It's more of preventing their skin getting darker than protect their skin. I don't think most people know sunscreen can protect their skin to lose collagen. You can see that in those Asian brands sunscreen advertisements. It's always showing how their products can prevent you from getting darker skin and then how lightweight it is. Almost never mention how will it prevent the sun exposure to damage you skin or prevent skin cancer like the one I saw in Australian sunscreen advertisements.
@@ChloeChloe. same thing in the Philippines. I remember one time my cousin saw me put sunscreen and was surprised and asked me why I didn't want to tan (the fair skin beauty standard doesn't really apply to guys). I told her everyone needed sunscreen to avoid premature aging and she was so surprised lol
I really love the passion that you exhibit when you're telling folks about all this wonderful information, you are really quite beautiful, thank you so much I'm trying to tune everybody I know into your channel
"Happy Monday" always reminds me of the Happy Mondays, one of my fav early 90s bands. Songs like Kinky afro, Step on etc.🎶💜 I "highly recommend" as Dr. Dray likes to say😊
I took the combination of these, it worked like magic on my skin! Glowing and flawless. But i stopped because i heard rumors say collagen supplementation could activate cancer cells :(
I agree! I take Living Silica and surely notice a difference. Just not eating ANY sugar will improve one's skin tremendously. And I also limit my decaf coffee to once or twice a month as that seems to instantly age me😐
I like to eat things that boost collagen production. Vitamin C, Vitamin E, water and eating high antioxidant foods. I do this in conjunction with a skin care regime that's great for retaining collagen.
I am 61 and have been losing my hair for years. Thyroid meds didn’t help. Collagen Peptides seem to be helping A LOT with that, and my hips aren’t as stiff and achey.
I wish I could go back and knock some sense into my hs self. I was super insecure with being pale and would sit in the sun for 3 hours , no sunscreen, in Phnx,AZ. Luckily I learned to love my skin and stopped tanning altogether, and use sunscreen everyday. 😊
Hi! I tried taking Vital Proteins and it literally made me sick!! It caused bad stomach issues like nausea and i wondered why! I agree about staying out of the sun i quit in my early 20s & i think wearing sunscreen is very important also i do see a difference when i eat lots if leafy green vegetables & eat fruit & 100% fruit juice. One thing i will say is cutting out coffee & switching healthy teas like matcha & oolong tea makes a huge difference. For some reason coffee seems to dehydrate my skin! I am sensitive to the acids in coffee so im fixing to work on cutting it out & switching back to tea. You give such great information & i learn a lot from your videos. Thank you for this!! 😊
Hmmm all you mentioned makes less or more sense but being obssesed with blocking visible Light with metals in sunscreen and makeup which might not be the healthiest as well seems to much to me. Not to mention certain amount spent on Light Sun in the morning and late afternoon may be good idea in order to maitain D3 production.
Me: I was thinking to buy that specific collagen brand she shows at her video, that's why i clicked it cause i was like huh? 😳 😂😂😂😂😂. Another thing i stopped on her channel cause i like her natural glow skin. For me i rather a daily natural looking skin. And just few occasion make up. 🤷🏽 So i guess i am in the right channel.

I'm 71 and has a hysterectomy at 42. Despite that huge women's study that showed the positive correlation between estrogen and development of breast cancer, I read the research closely and decided that all the benefits of estrogen were worth it. I also keep up with self-checks of breast tissue and overall symptoms of illness. Now people are asking why I have no wrinkling in my face. I admit I work outside all summer long, and it's hard to keep up with sun exposure, but I really believe the estrogen is helpful. Women were never meant to live past menopause, so there are many negative effects that transpire when the estrogen is missing.
I read a very good article regarding biological theories on why women outlive their reproductive years and it has to do with helping their daughters with caregiving. It’s called the grandmother hypothesis
A friend has been taking estrogen for 30 yrs and looks 30 yrs younger than her 76 yrs. My mother, however, using HRT for maybe 10 yrs died of multiple cancers attributed to estrogen supplementation.
The study you're referring to, by WHI, was proven to be extremely flawed, Dr's took women off HRT, mostly premarin at the time, and women were left suffering. There are better options now, but it's taken years.
The only thing I'm confused about is the red light. It causes damage to our collagen but its proven to help with red light therapy. Can you explain that? Great videos.. I get so excited and have changed so much of my self care ❤
She's talking about infrared radiation from the sun... Red light and near infrared are different...they are at a specific wave length that are beneficial to the skin.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. I have a question about infrared heat saunas - I heard they were good for the skin but then in your video you speak about infrared light being bad… and they I head red light therapy is great and infrared saunas do project red light. Any ideas on what is good or bad for the skin among all these? I love infrared saunas - that’s why I am asking
Out of everything you said Dr. Dray, the sleep part really got to me. Aaahhhh! I seriously need to do better in my sleeping habit. Thanks for that reminder/wake up call doc.
Do you spend a lot of time on the phone at night? I did and what I do now is put my phone away about 1-2 hours before getting in bed. I read a book instead and I also put the volume down on notifications at night. Before I would hear the phone and get up to look at it and I couldn't sleep afterwards. Now I wait to look at it in the morning when I wake up. This has helped me.

Thank you for recommending hormone therapy. I specialize in it and now take it. So many women are afraid of hrt because of a cancer risk. Creams and patches are safe and effective AND of course, improve skin texture and appearance!
Can I take HRT if I developed blood clots in my legs from birth control when I was a teenager? They made me stop using it. Now at 54 I'm almost depleted of Estrogen. I'm at 0.02 and haven't seen a doc since covid hit.

I started taking collagen powder in my tea because I thought it would cure my acne (before I found Dr. Dray). I don’t think I’ve seen any changes in my skin, but I’m convinced it contributes to my hair growth and my nail health.

Collagen has been a life saver for me after having a bad case of covid
@@Kelly-pp1et
If uv-radiation can't penetrate the skin because of sunscreen, it won't produce Vit.D

Try it.
What type of collagen do you take?
@Catz Lady

I love my morning sunbathes it is very healing
thank god there're still people with common sense lol. the sun is your friend! obv don't bake yourself for hours on end every day 😂
There is a lot more to sunlight than UV rays. And we do need UV light to generate vitamin D.
Me too! It feels amazing. Just 10-15 minutes a day I join the lizards 🦎 in my backyard lol
I do this everyday sun makes me happy..i just wear a hat and 15-20 minutes sun exposure without sunblock well just on my face.

Dr.
I have compared my old pictures to the latest pictures, my skin has changed from a darker shade to a lighter shade, my wrinkles especially under my eyes look obvious and there more side effects due to sun exposure.
Anyway, I will try avoid the sun as much as I can now.
Taking collagen for dry skin related to ichthyosis. Noticed improvement within a few days. Wish I'd discovered this decades ago.
