This takes alot of time to put together so big thank you. I’m still looking for best audio 🤦🏼♂️ and impressed with just the media mod by itself. Will you be sticking with the Panda?
I had huge issues with my Hero 8 Black turning off during recording. I've narrowed down a few potential fixes that are working better for me: 1) Use the fastest micro sd card possible (Class 10 is no longer A-grade, go for V60 or V90 2) When pulling footage off of the camera onto your PC (Windows), follow up by formatting the card using the Go Pro settings menu. 3) Remove the battery and connect an external USB battery instead.
What do think will be the best option for recording crisp voice without any wind blasts while driving in high speeds? The Mic adapter or the Mediamod? I want to set the mic in the helmet.
Thanks so much for all the info! The mic comparisons were awesome. I just ordered the GoPro hero 8’and the media mod and also the purple panda. I noticed you have the FunMax Helmet Mount Integrated Helmet Belt. That I didn’t get but went for the mount that sticks. Good to know all the options.
I have a similar setup and I'm shocked that you can hear speaking just by using the GoPro microphones. I believe that's a full face helmet you're wearing. I haven't even tried it without my third party microphone attached to the media mod as I didn't think it would pick up on any talking.
I have the exact heat issue that you just described in this video. My god I am really upset about it goes shut down after like 20 mins of 4k 60fps recording.
A very interesting experience. I'm going to go and try this. As someone already stated if you turn your head you catch bad wind. HOWEVER what I've done is taken the foam cover and sewn a dead cat to it. Capturing good audio is a real challenge.
Just about to buy a Hero10 for a big trip...thankyou for the upload, has helped greatly with regards to Audio on the bike. Cheers mate...**edit, seen your vid about going back to Hero7..but I'm not a vlogger..just a casual user. So still going for the 10. :)
I run it too on the motorcycle, sound is somehow usable. I bought an external mic though to add it on the media mod and put it on the back of my jacket.
Hi! I have a quick question... When you were talking to the Gopro at high speeds, did you actually have your helmet's visor/screen closed or open? I am surprised how good the sound was using the rear mic of your media mod, I am subscribing!!
I am curious about this as well. I just duplicated this test using my modular helmet and I could not hear myself at all using the front speaker and very faintly at the rear microphone option. Nothing like this video.
This actually makes me want to go buy one right now, I needed a mic for today but I never ordered it so I won't get it on time. I think I can definitely get away with not having the purple panda for a day and just do the media mod.

This just happened to me and I had ZERO sound from the recordings. Trying to figure out if the mic really had become disconnected or what else happened. Thanks for this video.
Really love your channel! It’s top Work! I am trying to record audio from my motorcycle with a zoom h1n, but its not being easy to find the right settings and setup for my R nine T Scrambler. This test with media mod rear microphone seem very good. Thanks and keep with this fantastic content. 💀
Sorry for another response. I just went out on my Shoei Neotec 2 modular helmet, with media mod, and I played around with using only the media mod mics, front and rear. I could hear nothing with the front in terms of my recorded voice and just barely could faintly make out my voice through the rear. I don't know how you're getting your voice heard using just the media mod with a helmet covering your mouth. You have really good voice audio on all 3 options. Mine sounds terrible. Edit: I repeated the test a few minutes ago and the only time my rear Media Mod picked up my voice in any way tolerable was only if I lifted the front face visor up so I could be heard. That sounded like yours. It appears your helmet does not have a front visor but then you used what appears like goggles wrapped around the helmet. I'm wondering if that's the reason for the difference.
Starting with moto vlogs, I’m still trying to get the best starters set-up ready. I’ve got the GoPro Hero 10 with a good chin mount from MotoMounts. What do u prefer for good audio as a beginner for moto vlogs? Don’t have a budget for audio. Oh and I’m from Belgium (Europe) 🇧🇪
I’ve got a hero 9 with its media mod and a similar helmet, imo the media mod with the rear mic and the wind sock (foam) attached it is way better audio at highway speeds versus my purple panda or powerdewise lav mics. No matter where I placed the lav mics in my helmet or what deadcat with/ without a foam wind sock and or rubber glove finger tip or paper towel or any other diy fix I always got crackling and popping aka peeking at highway speeds. The media mod none of that and imo the wind noise is acceptable, considering your on a motorcycle and irl wind noise is part of riding anyways. As far as waterproof-ness I’ve used it in a drizzle and full on rain without issues other than the video looking like garbage due to rain drops on the lens. Haven’t bothered using it in a down poor as I know the footage would be useless anyway. Now I wouldn’t do this on a regular basis out of fear of water getting in through the mic but I trust it to survive in a sudden rain storm and not panic about needing to pull over immediately to put the gopro away in my saddlebag. So imo the media mod using the rear mic is worth the price and accomplishes most of what I need it to. I just wish I could charge it whilst recording then it be near perfect for my wants/ needs.
@@JohnSer33 mine sounds about equal to this video when using wind reduction setting. Both set ups are improved compared to the gopro media mod mic and both have done far better than the purple panda and powerDeWise lav mics in regards to peeking and wind noise volume level, for me. I’m planning to put similar cellphone headphone mics in my torc T3 helmet because they’re easier to fit and position where I need them. Both set ups the audio is as good as I think I’ll be able to get it without going the audio recorder route and messing with it in post. I just want simple plug and play as I edit all my videos on my iPhone or iPad. The audio at highway speeds is still good imo but isn’t worth recording unless maybe you do hooligan type riding. I tried using my sena mic to record audio on my phone to add later in post but I use my iPhone for music and gps so I couldn’t do that whilst recording audio. Even more importantly it just mutes the sound of the bike too much with its wind reduction software. It’s great for phone calls because I can hear/ be heard at high speeds and they don’t hear any wind really or the bike really but for a motovlog purpose it’s no good imo. Idk if any of this info will help you and your bike/ helmet set up and goals for video/ audio recording but hope it does. Best of luck. @@freezezero0221 your comments gave me a really good insight about the media mod. @@ThrottleMY I’ve since switched to a insta 360 rs one and it has audio gain controls when using an external mic via their small mic adapter. I’m still learning with it but the initial switch was pretty smooth and definitely better audio for motovloggging. I miss a few things like highlights (via the power button and the voice command but the formed more importantly) on the GoPro (insta 360 does it too but via the touch screen and it’s “flagging” so it’s useless when riding and sifting through videos can become more time consuming) Now if sticking with the GoPro the media mod is nice mostly for the visual sound level when using an external mic but the battery life suffers quite a bit vs using the mic adapter. If battery life is a concern then I’d go the mic adapter route and get a cage that holds the mic adapter below the camera so it’s one unit. Also the worst part about the media mod is when you need to access the battery for a battery swap or worse to reboot it because it’s glitching. You have to undo the whole thing. I don’t use my hero 9 anymore but I still use my GoPro max so I’m not saying GoPro sucks but if you got the money I’d honestly switch to a insta360 set up. If not in the budget I’d personally recommend the mic adapter with a camera cage and mic adapter holder. Sorry if this makes your choice harder I’m just trying to give my honest opinion/ experience. Good luck to ya regardless of what you choose! Add: insta360 has its own corks too so it’s not all sunshine and rainbows either but it definitely been way less of a headache and less issues for me anyway.
@@freezecycle7776 ah i see yeah i did saw some videos people were saying sometimes the GoPro did not detect the media mod and yeah I don't like the fact that there's a risk there and I think I might just go with the mic adapter setup so I don't have to worry about anything. As for the battery I always spare at least 3 during my ride but yeah trying to take it out and just replace it seems like a hassle too. I might stick with the GoPro first for now haha the Insta360 is pretty pricey too even for a used ones. Its all good man I really appreciate your feedback on this! I don't have much friends that vlogs so needed some else's opinion haha
I have a hero 10 and after 30 minutes the system told me it was too hot and it was going to shut down. I'm shooting at 4K 60 frames per second I'm not sure if GoPros planning some sort of fix for this but certainly if it's so widely known why would you even release a model that has this type of concern.
Hey bro, great review. Really informative. I need a motovlogging Mic, where did you get your purple panda from and how did it take for delivery. Im in Melbourne too so wondering if there are any places in the city to get one
I have a Hero 9 and a 10, and the media mod. What are you exact gopro video settings ? I thot the media mod caps the GrPro video settings to 1440 (2K ? ) resolution ?
Great vid! But could you help me with sum. I have an issue not really with wind but more so when I record my videos and when I talk even if I talk really loud all you can really hear is my dirt bike- is there any other way I could fix something like that
what i want is to record decent audio coming from my bike i dont want to record my own voice, just bike audio i have the media mod but i was wondering if there was a better way without having to use a zoom because i dont want to sync the audio up afterwards and mess about carrying one
one issue i experience with the media mod is that it cuts off the bass of the audio very badly, i don't know it's a quality issue of my item or a general issue for the entire model range
Hey. Fantastic video. Have a question. Did you test any other external mics apart from Panda? I have a lavalier go Rode mic with TRS connection and I m wondering if it will work with the mode?
Hey I've got a more technical question: I just bought a GoPro 10 with a media mod and a lapel mic and I was wondering if the GoPro can record both from the audio mod and the lapel mic!
aye was up bro great video, I have a problem with my media mod on my hero 9 when I connect to a 3.5 mic i get audio coming out only from the left. at first i tough it was the mod since I got it from bestbuy open box, so i returned it and got a new one but same problem. i tried three different generic mics that i bought off amazon with the two black rings on the tip. how can i fix it. thanks
Love your videos. Would like your thoughts on a problem i am having. Currently using both the Hero 8 and Hero 10 (both with media mods) with an external TRS mic. At higher speeds, the audio will experience crackling and popping artifacts. Tried it again with a TS mic, which eliminates the artifacts, but the audio is recorded only on one channel , but still in stereo mod, which i would have to edit to play on both channels (extra work!!!) . Any setting for the audio is greyed out once a mic is plugged in, so any changes made doesn't affect the outcome Do you have any thoughts on how to solve this, or have you exprience the same? Thanks again for your great videos!
What do you mean by the hypersmooth issue when using ND filters? I think since hypersmooth is via software and not via hardware (like gimbals), there's gonna be micro jitters. Hypersmooth needs sharp pixels inorder to track the frame properly. When you use ND filters, you basically cut the light coming in and introduce motion blur. Since there's less sharp and defined pixels, hypersmooth is having a hard time analyzing each frame. Hence the micro jitters. But I don't know if the engineers at GoPro can figure out better hypersmooth implementation with relying to much on pixel analysis.
That’s what I mean about the hypersmooth issue. It’s worse in some sections, but the section that I showed was almost unbearable to watch (for me). I’m cool with micro jitters, but that section was just woeful. The thing that sucks is that the Hero 7 never had this issue and is one of the reasons why I never upgraded
Thank you for the video. My old Hero 6 3.5mm mic adapter just gave up on my latest 3 week trip and all my audio is trash (now I have to do voice overs). So, I'm in the market for a new GoPro. I like the media mod instead of the 3.5mm mic adapter. I currently have a mount on the top of the helmet so that it looks over the windscreen (I'm short). I also use a Purple Panda mic, which I've been happy with. Any GoPro recommendations? I think the back mic and the Purple Panda mic both sounded decent. Also, my husband and I ride our own motorcycles, and I'd like to capture the audio from our PackTalks. Any recommendations on wiring? Again, thank you for the video, it was very helpful.
When i record smt while looking at gooro with selfie mode, voice is good. But when i shot smt n talk behind camera, my voice is so low. What’s solution? I Have gopro 10 n think it has two different mics but as i said my voice is low when I talk behind it. Thanks
Hi! How is the waterproof of the mediamod? Now I'm using Sony X3000, and have no issues in rain with external microphone... Did you use it in rain? Thabk you!
I’m really starting to consider downgrading from insta x3 to Hero 9. Im a guy who’s starting to motovlog too. But Im not the type who can stick to 2 cameras setup. I really have to choose only one. The reason why is i think im going to have to spend more money to get a clean looking setup (including mic) with the x3 since i have to go wireless. If i choose to put the x3 on my helmet, with a mic adapter, it’s going to look too much for me. Whereas if im using a goPro. I can just stick to media mod and mount the camera on my helmet and it’ll look clean and simple. Any thoughts guys? Help me decide pls 😅

Yea i've heard users are having issues with overheating. Make sure you tried what i mentioned and see if that helps any
Hey bro, great review. Really informative. I need a motovlogging Mic, where did you get your purple panda from and how did it take for delivery. Im in Melbourne too so wondering if there are any places in the city to get one
We have the new IDOLCAM VlogStar V2 shotgun/Lavalier microphone in one, small size, perfect for GoPro, can we send you one to you to play with?
Rear mic is the best
great video, subbed
Please show us how you attach the purple panda in your helmet
Wooo! I'm addicted to your content now,i don't like any other's 😉
I am looking for a mic that can capture my voice as well as engine sounds clearly without wind sounds. Looks like media mod rear mic is the closest?
The way you have mounted the cam on helmet, is it still easy to plug in an external mic for vlogging ?
I have a Hero 9 and a 10, and the media mod. What are you exact gopro video settings ? I thot the media mod caps the GrPro video settings to 1440 (2K ? ) resolution ?
hi does the purple panda mic record stereo from media mod thx
Does the mic adapter work with a USB extension?
4:09 what you mean the hyper sommth issue?
Is there not a way to record an external mic as well as the gopro? Like two audio channels?
Did i get it right, it‘s not possible to capture two audio tracks e.g. the rear mic and the external mic at the same time? :(
Did they figure anything out with the hypersmooth? Like a software update? Or is it a hardware issue?
one issue i experience with the media mod is that it cuts off the bass of the audio very badly, i don't know it's a quality issue of my item or a general issue for the entire model range
Hey. Fantastic video. Have a question. Did you test any other external mics apart from Panda? I have a lavalier go Rode mic with TRS connection and I m wondering if it will work with the mode?
Unfortunately no, I'd like to try something wireless though
Hey
I've got a more technical question: I just bought a GoPro 10 with a media mod and a lapel mic and I was wondering if the GoPro can record both from the audio mod and the lapel mic!
As far as I know you can’t. If something comes up and I find a work around I’ll let you know!
@@MotoFeelz Thanks a lot mate, appreciate it! I seriously thought i could record both at the same time, ig i still have to buy a tascam then.
aye was up bro great video,
I have a problem with my media mod on my hero 9 when I connect to a 3.5 mic i get audio coming out only from the left. at first i tough it was the mod since I got it from bestbuy open box, so i returned it and got a new one but same problem. i tried three different generic mics that i bought off amazon with the two black rings on the tip. how can i fix it. thanks
Do we get any protective case for GoPro 9/10 with media mods ?
I couldn't plug the intercom microphone into the go pro and record the sound. Can you help me?
Be careful with the those flaps covers on the ports. I accidentally ripped off the 3.5mm cover off.
Any setting for the audio is greyed out once a mic is plugged in, so any changes made doesn't affect the outcome
Do you have any thoughts on how to solve this, or have you exprience the same?
Thanks again for your great videos!
Love you content my friend
Thank you!
Thanks
Not sure if you said but what wind noise setting did you have on?
is it just me or is rear media mod mic actualy the best ? but again im listening over phone speakers
Hi! How is the waterproof of the mediamod? Now I'm using Sony X3000, and have no issues in rain with external microphone...
Did you use it in rain?
Thabk you!
Does gopro remains waterproof with media mod?
How it auido settings in 4:02
And what the EQ settings
I have hero 7 black. Every time I try to download my footage to my iPhone 11 Pro it fails if the video is over 2 minutes long. Any suggestions ?
Adapter is better than media mode
