I run the go pro because after years! 10 Years of running GoPros on the outside of cars and loosing them at speed my GoPro survived every abuse I threw at it… and most of that time the audio sucked! Then when the media mod came out I resisted it until I started vlogging on my bikes. It is cool with the dual mic - for static vlogging but on the fly it can’t compete with wind noise and like you said there is no adjustment for gain / filter software for standard plug and play mic’s. The solution for me is the Rode Mic - wireless Me dual mic system. It has all the software tweaks you need AND still has the ability to isolate the mic in my helmet or get both mic’s - wherever I put them. I have an old BMW R1250R video with the brutal media mod only sound … and since then the Rode mic take over has been amazing!! From there I separate my audio in post.
I dont mean to be so offtopic but does someone know a tool to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb forgot my password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me
@Isaac Holden thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
One of the best audio I've heard in motovlogging, nice job man👍 I just purchased media mod to my gopro 8 and last time I was riding it did not record any audio at all while ext mic connected. Saw some with same issue and he mean you need to turn on gopro first and then start recording. If you press on recording button only it will not catch the audio. I have to try that. You don't think mic quality may improve audio with media mod? It sucks to spend 200 bucks on media mod and mic and still have poor audio. Gopro really need to step up on many things. The buttons sucks as well, really hard to press with gloves. Thank you man for your video 🙏
You can use a VolBox mini to plug in between your mic and the GoPro Media mod.It allows you to adjust the gain and it's small and cheap. You can get it on Amazon.
@@KovertMecha I have the setup I use on a video. It works very good with the mic I got no wind noise. I got the Purple Panda mic and it was just to sensitive and wouldn’t work.
Dude I fought this for so long. I now use Tascam for external audio. I still use the media mod for picking up Sena conversations is all now. Thanks for sharing. Also my media mod battery lasts 40 min,y other 8 lasts an hour.
I just don't get how this makes sense lol. This tascam is bigger than mic adaptor and its 4x more expensive! Plus you have to sync in post. It sounds absolutely brilliant, don't get me wrong, but it's also a complete PITA solution that consumers should have to deal with.
omg why am i only seeing this now. SMH appreciate this bro. Over here killing myself with my audio. Looks like a separate audio recorder is what i'm going to have to roll with cuz my audio sucks. I feel like when i plug purple panda into media mod it's still allowing that actual go pro to record. It's super loud and annoying. Can barely here me when i'm moving. Ugh. Motovlog life. LOL!! #rookie Great share bro!!
It sounds good. I hear your voice clear but still hear the bike and surrounding sounds. But your voice is clear over everything else.... Sounds great 👍
I just broke my Media Mod using it to motovlog. The mic jack is very fragile. After only to short runs around 100 kph I noticed a lot of popping sounds in the footage, that I now know were due to the bad contact in the mic jack caused by the wind making the small amount of unsecured mic cable vubrate violently. Now when I tap the mic plug when in the jack it almost peggs the audio meter. As well, both builtin Mod mics are no longer working. Having a cable from your Wireless go to the Media mod probably wont last long based on my experience. The lav mic cable is much thinner and next time I will take more time to secure it to make sure it does not damage the mic jack. 100$ dollar lesson learned. If I break another media mod I will try the old style adapter. Good luck
Im having the same problem and I'm not into buying this tascam. It costs a lot of money. Today I'll return to my old set which is capturing audio with the voice recorder of my smartphone. I had much better result with that than the gopro. Cheers from Belgium. I just subscribed, BTW.
I found the sound perfect and your voice is clear👍🏻 as I prefer the voice and the actual bike in the background. Try moving the mic 🎤 in a different position.. I’m using the panda mic
Great video. The audio set up you have comes across great! Like you, Audio on video surpass video quality, it’s easier to watch a video with good audio yet average footage than great footage with poor audio. Recently purchased new GoPro plus media mod & will experiment with the set up running external mic. Thanks for your insight plus sharing your setup. 👍🇦🇺🏍
I have the mic adapter for the gopro. Honesttly there is alot of pops and crackle. I have do some research into it and the reason is cause any slight movement from the type c adapter in the go will cause audio cracks and pops. I am still trying to fix it with no luck.
Your audio sounds really good with the Tascam. I’ve got a larger Tascam video and audio recorder that I’ve started using on the motorcycle. The recorder is fine but I’m having a horrible time with wind noise. How are you reducing wind noise with your setup?
Thank you for this video. I'm planning to mount an audio recorder on my helmet as you did. Could you go into the detail on how you mounted it. Just sticking with 3M or did you attach a quick mount thing first? Cheers.
The audio deos sound way better. Mounting it to the back of your helmet is a good idea, but what about if it rains? I do not think it is water proof is it?
Did you use the trs to trrs adapter? I think the media mod has a trs and lav mics tend to have the trrs (two rings). From what I’ve gathered. But the tascam is good too
Bro I’m getting the tascam Dr-05x for motovlogging, and for the same price as the tascam you’ve got but, the Dr-05x has a crazy amount of audio options compared to the model you have, I’m guessing the size is the reason why it seems a lot.
Good video and information is outstanding....Personally, I thought the sound through your media mod sounded great! I'm not an engineer, but if you have a bunch of clips from a long ride, how do you synch the tascam to your clips?
@@GETWRENCHD Thanks for the reply! I appreciate your expertise. So hit record, turn on audio recorder, clap hands, and match it up in post production. So the only disadvantage might be if you are not using your sound clips in the sequence with your clip, correct? Thanks!
The reason your audio sucks with the go pro is because you don't understand the audio settings. First off you need to make sure your lav is compatible with cameras, some 3.5 are meant for smart devices or pcs and others are meant for cameras. Connect lav first and then you turn on. Go to settings and make sure the settings are set to "standard mic". Sometimes people have "line in" which will produce no audio because the mic needs to be powered by the camera. Sometimes people have it to "standard plus" which unnaturally boosts the audio of a lav camera. For most standard 3.5 lavs the "standard" setting is just fine. Hope this helps.
After the first 5 seconds of your speaking "What are you doing lady?" I turned your video off. Pathetic intollerance, she was clearly wondering if the first exit was her turn. Have more patience man.

Ps I have only watched this video … do you normally post in 1080? Maybe ramp up the video to 4K now that you have the audio dialled. 👍🏼
I think this sounded pretty good. I like to hear a clear voice but also a little wind and exhaust to add perspective.
I dont mean to be so offtopic but does someone know a tool to log back into an instagram account?

Thank you so much, you saved my ass :D
@Marshall Bradley No problem :D
Lol the media mod sounded just fine
Clear audio is such a problem with motovlogging. Wind noise is my biggest problem at higher speeds

Turn off the wind option bud

Because it's a huge box you have to mount somewhere. That's why I rock external audio recorders like the Zoom H5 instead.

Thx for the info and the great vid. Very much appreciated!
Does the hero 8 media mod offer power pass through without a battery? I’m looking to power it with an external battery.
Man this is the exact same issue I’m going through. I also just got a zoom h1n because the audio I’m getting from the media mod is so trash.
Ya it’s terrible, the zoom will be so much nicer than the media mod

What about in the rain?
Would tascam work for gopro 10 ?

I did, without the trrs adapter it won't work at all.
Got it. Well it isn’t the worst ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My media mod didn’t work hopefully i can exchange it tomorrow

Good video and information is outstanding....Personally, I thought the sound through your media mod sounded great! I'm not an engineer, but if you have a bunch of clips from a long ride, how do you synch the tascam to your clips?
Just clap your hands a few times when you start recording and it makes it easy to sync the audio by matching up the waveforms

same problem with the hero10 unfortunately
