I have a good workflow change for you. DO NOT detach the audio. when you do, you can get them out of sync with the video. just expand the audio. when you set to dual mono, it will separate the tracks, then expand in the timeline and you can control them independently the same way that you are with them detached, but, when you collapse them, they close up and are still locked in sync. you can always go in and tweak more, etc.
@@oppenheimer11 I will make you a FCP file to see what I do with my mics. I may not be able to get to it today, but I will record something in FCP with audio expansion showing what I mean.
@@oppenheimer11 this was a workflow way in FCP. how to view audio tracks without being destructive and able to edit quicker and easier. it doesn’t apply to resolve or PP..
Excellent breakdown. My wife and I started our channel at the very end of 2022, and pretty quickly moved to the DJI Mic/Action 3 combo - We ride 2 up, so the dual mic setup is great. Wind noise is still an issue in her helmet at freeway speeds, but we are experimenting with ways to reduce that. One thing I will add is that if you are using the usb-c connector straight to the Action 3 mounted on your helmet, wind buffeting may eventually cause that connection to have issues, with the weight of the mic receiver hanging off it and the vibrations giving it a ride. We started dropping some audio on our most recent recordings, and it looks like it is this connection. We just changed it up to a short usb-c cable with the mic velcro'd to the top of the action 3, and it cleared up.
Hey, I followed your advice and I did the same thing: velcro'd the transmitter at the top of the action cam and connected with a short usb-c cable. The downsize is that once the action cam is on, it's charging the transmitter. So the battery of the action cam goes down much quicker. Did you encounter the same problem?
I just bought this setup after watching this video.. used the same -9db and -12db settings on the mic’s and recorded them standalone with one under the seat on my motorbike and one plugged into a helmet mic..
Great video! I’ve had these for a while, but haven’t tried them on the bike. One thought, if you’re going to use one mic for you and one for your riding partner, using the internal recording capability would eliminate the transmitter range issue.
Maybe somebody should say something about that if u r connected via Bluetooth u ll get shit sound.. I didnt find one setting which is working.. Except recording straight in transmiter and then sync it in after.. My settings r -12db everywhere plus on insta 360 -16 or -18 if I am right.. tried put it straight above the pipes terrible sound.. to my bag.. Still terible, to the insta 360 soft cover and to the bag and its ok but still not clean.. so tell me.. What in the hell I am doing wrong?? I have Triumph bonneville t120, remus pipes w/o db killers but cat is still on.. And hot terrible sound out of dji mic.. Help me pls
Thank you for this video! Used your link to get one. Just ordered a insta 360 and really wanted audio and you explained everything perfectly. Really helped me to decide to go with this mic solely for the review being so niche and not just a wide range of uses and specs
Great video Rob. Your editing skills are on point. Such an engaging edit. I don’t know that your video description gives your video what it deserves. That wasn’t just for Motovloggers. That video was a great explanation for anyone that would be interested in the DJI mics, not just MotoVlogging. Seems you might miss some clicks from people that are keen on double bass ;) Maybe you should retitle to DJI MICs not just for MotoVlogging Keep up the great work.
Just a heads up for anyone wanting to edit Audio. As a person that can only hear from one side, aka mono, if I use headphones it's impossible to know one side is voice and the other in environment :( I can only wonder how great it must be to have 2 audio channels putting specific sound for left and right.
This is great! I have a purple panda mic on my GoPro and theres so much crackling when riding over 35mph (i think due to windnoise). The DJI doesnt seem to have that problem and so much flexibility over sound control.
congratulations for the video, great review, I was just curious how you connected the microphone or transmitter to the insta360 x3 and also how you managed to put the audio in the helmet...
You have a great mix of videos. I've had an insta360 x3 for a while now and just use a lav mic hooked directly into the Insta and run the wire tapped down to my insta stick then into my helmet. This setup works fine. However, if it is windy or I'm going over 50 mph my helmet gets loud. I have a Shoei Neotec 2, which is an awesome helmet, but it is modular so guessing those seams let more wind in than a full face "non-modular". This week I purchased DJI Mic 2 hoping to go wireless. However, everything I've tried thus far sounds like garbage. I tried using bluetooth direct to the insta and that worked fine below 20 mph, but any faster....yup garbage. I then used the two mics independently one in the helmet and one in my pannier above the pipe. That also ended up being garbage. Today I tried using the receiver and ran it into my iPhone syncing the two audio transmitters in post to the insta video. That also was garbage. The one thing I haven't tried yet is messing with the gain. My next try will be to lower the gain to see if that helps. Any suggestions? I also do interviews with people, so even if I can't figure out how best to use the dji mic 2 for motovlogging, I'll be using it during my interviews. In advance, thank you for any suggestions. My RUclips channel is "Texas2Tires"
Thanks' mate for putting this great review together, much appreciate. On a side note (and probably due to rampant inflation) the current Black Friday Sale at JB HIFI, the full combo set up, will cost you and extra $20.00 AUD. ($529 AUD) 😞

Do you worry about it coming off in the rough??? It’s only held on by the USB yeah? My question more relates to when the OA is on your helmet and it’s plugged in.
Great video! I want to use the Mic with my gopro thats attached on the front of the helmet. To have both the in helmet and exhaust audio would I need to turn them on manually if i dont want to put the reciever on the gopro to avoid having so much things on the front of the helmet. Thanks for your help!
these videos are awesome mate keep them coming loving the information. I've been on the fence for ages about the DJI mic because I already own the OG Rode Go think ill be trading that in for one of these.
The problem is, I am working with this, and DJI mic 2 will never record such a good audio of your exhaust as some ZOOM recorders ... I would like to see some real comparison
Thanks for the review video. Did it ever get dropped due to clumsiness? As it is tiny in size, so was concerned if it would withstand 3-4 feet of accidental drop.
Hi, nice video! thank you for explaining so much, I have a question though: do you prefer connecting the transmitter directly to the insta/camera or it's better with the receiver? I'm trying to grab the pipes during trackdays, seems having the transmitter connected directly to the camera would be easier to use, but audio might be better with the receiver? would any of it make any difference though for just capturing the exhausts during 20mn sessions? Thanks again for the great content. Been enjoying it a lot.
I keep getting a hollow sound when recording exhaust. Receiver gain at -12db, transmitter at -6db. I’ve tried placing the transmitter in my pants pocket, on my rear fender and in a rear fender bag, and in my jacket pocket. From a stop, I’ll take off from a light and the audio sounds amazing. Great video. I just tried setting up this audio on -12 gain. In a fanny pack. With the dead cat and another dead cat over top. In a snug compartment of the fanny pack. It was facing the exhaust and was out of the way of wind. And it still came out bad. My settings just had the low cut filter off. Any tips?
I don't understand how you resync the audio to your video file later and how you're able to select a piece of audio that's seemingly already clipped to length for that video file in the timeline
Ho mate, I’m recording via bluetooth with Acepro and Dji mic 2. -12DB wrapped in microfiber and buff but the sound is not even close to usable. Distorsion, and awful sound, tried to put it everywhere, pocket jeans, jacket, bag, rucksack, same bad results. I dont really know whats wrong 🤷🏻♂️
Great video. So I got the Mic 2 2x1 with charging case, and I have an Insta360 X4. I've tried the setup on my GoPro10 Black, but I want to get the adapters to use it on my 360. My question is, how safe do you feel with this gear attached to the Insta360 going 80 down the road? Thanks in advance,
Rob, Hi, is the reason you put the pipes mic at minus 12 because they are so loud? I have a vespa and using that setting i find the engine noise quite low? thanks Patrick great video and channel btw
Question for ya! Do you have the WIFI setting (ON) for the GoPro? I have been having so so so many audio issues with 3 different LAV mics. I purchased the DJI mic yesterday and im hoping I will be able to retain the WIFI feature for dialing in my shot (aiming the camera on my helmet). I found that sometimes, the WIFI setting will cause a frequency picked up by the cheaper LAV mics.
Thanks for sharing your setup and for the great video... As always informative and entertaining... You have a new subscriber 😁... I bought mine and the action 3 want to use them in my MK INDY Kit car, mainly to record engine noise and maybe some vlogging if I am brave enough 😅... I did find the connection between the transmitter and the camera a bit flimsy so I have bought a small rig cage and attach it on the top with a boya connector, I am wondering if you have a better solution or are you happy to mount it on the camera on the side?

Hi Sir, Can we connect both transmitter DJI mic 2 without receiver with Insta 360 X3 ? Me and wife doing Moto vlog and need a solution to record both voice.
5:42 turn of stereo mode it sucks becouse this is not stereo Just separated 2 chanels splited from right and left side xD Your mic in backpack sound cool without windnoise but in helmet yes and it sounds wierd
What about the transmitter ( base ) Rob ? Is that weather proof if that’s attached to my GoPro or insta , and it’s starts raining ( I live in the uk 🤣)
How do you get the sound so clear from mounting the mic inside the helmet ? I've tried the same setup as yours and get a lot of distortion when I speak into the mic and from exhaust while the mic is inside the helmet.
I'm sure I suggested the Rode Wireless Go2 mics to you ages ago for this same purpose, but hey more competition is always a good thing. And so is a freebie. :)
Has anyone experienced a massive drop off in gain using the DJI transmitter as a standalone recorder? The first 10 minutes may be the +6 gain that I have it programmed for, but then suddenly the audio will be barely audible.
I don't know why everyone is shilling for this Purple Panda microphone. The quality I get is awful when going 3.5mm to USB-C into a DJI Osmo Action 4. Tried a wide dB range. At speed, the mic is barely audible. At a standstill, it sounds like the mic is in my mouth while I am talking.
Do you connect those to insta360 directly while filming? I get the impression that you don't, I don't know if I'm wrong, but it seems to me you add audio on your computer after filming.
So while the receiver is plugged into my camera. Does the audio from the receiver/mic go to my camera’s video? Or am I transferring an audio file from the receiver to my pc, as a separate mp3 only file?
I have a good workflow change for you. DO NOT detach the audio. when you do, you can get them out of sync with the video. just expand the audio. when you set to dual mono, it will separate the tracks, then expand in the timeline and you can control them independently the same way that you are with them detached, but, when you collapse them, they close up and are still locked in sync. you can always go in and tweak more, etc.
Yo GREAT tip! I will be using this for sure. Is that only in final cut? Is this what you use if you don't mind me asking. I have been using Capcut Pro
Yes I use FCPx, have not tried CapCut, and my workflow is probably FCPx only

I don't know why everyone is shilling for this Purple Panda microphone. The quality I get is awful when going 3.5mm to USB-C into a DJI Osmo Action 4. Tried a wide dB range. At speed, the mic is barely audible. At a standstill, it sounds like the mic is in my mouth while I am talking.
Hey, what do you thing about using the new rode wireless pro for motovlog setup? 😆
do you record with audio with the microphone just into the backpack? i'm strugling to get good audio from the backpack...
Do you connect those to insta360 directly while filming? I get the impression that you don't, I don't know if I'm wrong, but it seems to me you add audio on your computer after filming.
What if you wanna use your Friends Voice as well?
Thank you so much for this!!!
Can you connect it to you GoPro and then connect your cards / sena to your go pro ?
How do the Hollyland Lark M1s compare with the DJI in terms of sound quality for a motovlogging setup?
Thank you for the video! Just wondering what shoe/bracket did you use to mount it to the insta 360x3?
Did you use the noise cancellation on the DJI mics?
Does the Receiver not rattle loose from the camera? How have you secured it?
Perfect buddy. 👌🎥
Is it better to use stereo if you want to record both voice and the exhaust sounds?
Hi nice vlog btw. Is it rain proof for motovlog (Helmet mount)? Thank u
Great test and review. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
5:28 hold on!! how did you get the TX to link up with insta360????
I can't make it to link up with Action4.
Would you recommend the Zoom H5 or the DJI Mic for Exhaust sound quality ?
So while the receiver is plugged into my camera. Does the audio from the receiver/mic go to my camera’s video? Or am I transferring an audio file from the receiver to my pc, as a separate mp3 only file?
Im having issues with the whole audio editing.... Can't split my audio like in this vid. Dont have a Mac so cant use the editor in the video.
Wait can I connect both mics to the one receiver? All wireless?
Do you think it's worth selling my insta360 one rs and buying the DJI Osmo action 3? I've been thinking about it for a while.
