Didn’t you make a vid about the GoPro8 settings for the ND filter workaround? I don’t think the 10 is enough of an upgrade for me to warrant getting another GoPro. You can also buy new lens kits for the 8. You need to heat up the adhesive and pop the lense free and put in fresh adhesive with a fresh lense

I only came about the workaround a week or 2 before releasing that video - Definitely not worth buying one when the 10 was just around the corner. Thanks for that lens tip though 👊

Only downside is there is no stabilization. Worth it? Oh yes. Even so, very nice vid!

I just broke my Media Mod using it to motovlog. The mic jack is very fragile. After only to short runs around 100 kph I noticed a lot of popping sounds in the footage, that I now know were due to the bad contact in the mic jack caused by the wind making the small amount of unsecured mic cable vubrate violently. Now when I tap the mic plug when in the jack it almost peggs the audio meter. As well, both builtin Mod mics are no longer working. Having a cable from your Wireless go to the Media mod probably wont last long based on my experience. The lav mic cable is much thinner and next time I will take more time to secure it to make sure it does not damage the mic jack. 100$ dollar lesson learned. If I break another media mod I will try the old style adapter. Good luck
Still running a 7 & 8, with the 8 being a lot more reliable than the 7 if I'm honest. Did you edit the audio to reduce wind noise? I never had much luck with the media mod on the 8, was ok at low speeds with a Purple Panda plugged in, inside the helmet, but past 60 km/h or so it got pretty poor no matter what I did. Couldn't see any real difference in audio quality over just the base camera either. Really felt like it had so much potential for motorcyclists, yet they never really did it properly. What file format is the 10 recording into? All HEVC? And does it shoot 2.7 at 24 or 30? I was interested in upgrading to a 9 but that was the hurdle I couldn't overcome, as it meant totally changing my workflow (simple though it is). With the 8 and a media mod I actually found it prevented clipping pretty well, normally it was super loud starting the recording and then would normalise, but it tended to kill the mic eventually, normally at inopportune times and I'd only realise later checking the footage on the computer...
Awesome vid, brotha! Have you noticed any issues with overheating? I had the HERO 9 for a bit but sold it because of how hot the thing got while recording… to the point where it would shut itself off if I was recording in 4K.

I am not entirely satisfied with the 10. It will replace the Hero 9 for my Motovlog, but I lack real innovations and the battery life is even worse than that of the Hero9. I found out in my test video about the Hero10. Thanks for the nice video and greetings from Berlin.

Hero 10 might pull me back into the GoPro family! Went back to drift action cameras for motovlogging and recently got DJI osmo action after having tons of issues with GoPro over the years It’s a shame the dji sucks for motovlogging because it’s a good piece of kit - maybe the oa2 will address those issues? Good to see GoPro listened to customer feedback - I’ve been begging for profiles for years - something the dji has and I really love using. Solid vid as always! Can’t wait to see your thoughts on the Insta 360!
That insta 360 one x2 is a GREAT camera. You’re super lucky though with that drop. I did the same thing with mine and smashed the lens. Luckily it was just a cover. I definitely wouldn’t recommend using a 360 camera without a lens cover.

I use 5.3K 30 FPS SHUTTER 1/60 ISO 100-400 SHARPNESS - LOW COLOUR - FLAT But I have Soo many problems with the hypersmooth. But your final result 5:55 is definitely insane. Do you have some further advice ? Thank u 🙏🏻
Possibly? I don’t shoot in 2.7 because I like to pull frames and edit them at the highest res possible. Maybe I’ll make a comparison vid in the future and see which is best

All my shooting is relative to my motorcycle touring channel. With a hero 10 and my gopro Max 360 and the drone, one has the full kit. Haven't got into my gopro 360 yet. I bought it primarily for coming and going shots, not that crazy stuff. I noticed a nice little shot from your 360 as you arrived to your talk spot. One take, one ride and done. What a time saver. I want to explore the world of moto vlogging on my RE Himalayan, wondering how many cameras do I need ? I see so many people with one camera attached to their helmet,other stays near the handle bars. Is one enough or do I need more ?
The hero 9 touchscreen isn’t as responsive compared to what you we’re doing with the 10. When I’m out surfing the water still manages to change the video preset.

Great review! I'm a motorcyclist and snowmobiler and use a power bank 80% of the time with my 7 Black. Do you know if there is a good side door that is waterproof for a powerbank for the Hero10? I really don't want to use a case due to heat issues. Thanks again for sharing a great review! 👍😊
Thanks heaps man. The media mod has a lil waterproof flap that you can charge from, it shouldn’t overheat especially while snowboarding - it does get pretty warm though. Apart from that I’m not too sure what else there is really, if you wanna charge without the media mod then you need to remove the battery door completely which isn’t ideal

A year later whats your verdict am stuck between the hero 10 or a insta 360x3. Only down side is it will be used for green lanes so the bike does get dropped a lot so not sure if insta would be ok with dirt and stuff flying at the lens
So Rob, do you think the 10's mic (with a wind sock over it) will be better than lugging a Zoom recorder around in a backpack for getting exhaust sounds?
@@MotoFeelz Thanks. Curious if you looked at any other mic alternatives to the Zoom? I have a Zoom, but it ain't small and most of the time I'm riding without a backpack. But I do like the sound from it. Was just wondering if there was a different way to capture the exhaust audio, such as mic under the seat etc. (edit: just saw you tried that one!). Cheers.
The one gripe I have so far is the max lens mod doesn’t work yet in the GoPro hero 10 from the 9. I heard software upgrade is coming but nothing yet. Let me know if you’ve heard anything different. New sub here 🤙

What are the best settings for wind noise reduction with lavalier mics ? For example, what are you using for the raw audio setting and the mic settings ( standard , standard plus, powered, etc)
Does it overheat in 1080p / 2.7k too? Or just in very high resolutions? I just bought one, it should arrive in like 2 days and I don't wanna regret getting it, btw it's my first gopro and I got it for motovloggin
The most frustrating thing about the media mod on a GP9 is that you have to unscrew the whole dang thing to change a battery. Wish they had fixed that with the 10. For shame.

Hero 9 is more tempting just for longer battery life. Hero 10 quality upgrades not essential for me.

Using the Max Lens mod you can use horizon lock and have a wider field of view. In fact, you can rotate the camera 360° and the horizon stays locked.

The media mod has a microphone input, so if you want you can run a microphone from inside your helmet and plug it in.

Keep it simple! One POV, one point back at you, and a 360 camera that you can move around the bike
Brother I carry 8 battery's with me on my hero 7. That's at 4k 60fps. I fly through batteries and they're brand new ☹️
The hero 9 touchscreen isn’t as responsive compared to what you we’re doing with the 10. When I’m out surfing the water still manages to change the video preset.

Great review! I'm a motorcyclist and snowmobiler and use a power bank 80% of the time with my 7 Black. Do you know if there is a good side door that is waterproof for a powerbank for the Hero10? I really don't want to use a case due to heat issues. Thanks again for sharing a great review! 👍😊
Thanks heaps man. The media mod has a lil waterproof flap that you can charge from, it shouldn’t overheat especially while snowboarding - it does get pretty warm though. Apart from that I’m not too sure what else there is really, if you wanna charge without the media mod then you need to remove the battery door completely which isn’t ideal

Glad it was helpful! Mount it at your own risk - although i haven't yet heard of any issues of the GoPro putting the helmets safety at risk.
man the battery life is a killer for me ... can u plug a battery pack into it while you are useing it & how about a mic in the helmet from the unit. does it work ?.

Good review. However, the footage from the 7 looks better than the 10. Also, the 10 overheats while the 7 never overheated.
A year later whats your verdict am stuck between the hero 10 or a insta 360x3. Only down side is it will be used for green lanes so the bike does get dropped a lot so not sure if insta would be ok with dirt and stuff flying at the lens
So Rob, do you think the 10's mic (with a wind sock over it) will be better than lugging a Zoom recorder around in a backpack for getting exhaust sounds?
Not at all. The mic in my helmet picks up better than the media mod mic, and I still choose to mix in zoom audio
@@MotoFeelz Thanks. Curious if you looked at any other mic alternatives to the Zoom? I have a Zoom, but it ain't small and most of the time I'm riding without a backpack. But I do like the sound from it. Was just wondering if there was a different way to capture the exhaust audio, such as mic under the seat etc. (edit: just saw you tried that one!). Cheers.
The one gripe I have so far is the max lens mod doesn’t work yet in the GoPro hero 10 from the 9. I heard software upgrade is coming but nothing yet. Let me know if you’ve heard anything different. New sub here 🤙

What are the best settings for wind noise reduction with lavalier mics ? For example, what are you using for the raw audio setting and the mic settings ( standard , standard plus, powered, etc)
Does it overheat in 1080p / 2.7k too? Or just in very high resolutions? I just bought one, it should arrive in like 2 days and I don't wanna regret getting it, btw it's my first gopro and I got it for motovloggin
The most frustrating thing about the media mod on a GP9 is that you have to unscrew the whole dang thing to change a battery. Wish they had fixed that with the 10. For shame.
