- The eclipse was a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I feel privileged to have been a part of it. However, I was surprised that a drop from about waist level to the ground killed an action camera. If I had known it was so delicate, I wouldn't have bought it.
Which led me to do this, a full review of the GoPro Hero Session.

I've literally hit mine with a baseball bat multiple times and theres nothing wrong with it. Since you only had it for a week, I'd try reaching out to GoPro. They have real good customer service and would probably swap it out for free! Also, quick tip on the whole wifi connection, you could cut that time in half. I always just turn on the wifi on the gopro, go into settings to connect, and then go into the app. This has worked for me every time, no fail.

Agree much simpler than what was shown in this video. I can connect my gopro session to my iphone 6 in about 1/4 the time as shown in the video and haven't had any problems with it.

I own a GoPro Hero 5 Session, I do not mean to sound rude but:
1) The GoPro wifi link process is not as troublesome as you stated. If your iphone is up to date, all you have to do is click the wifi link on the gopro, then go on the app and connect to its wifi.
2) I have run over my GoPro on a skateboard and Dropped it from my helmet mount. If your GoPro broke from waist hight it may have been defected. I have insurance, but if you do not you may call GoPro customer service and they might replace it. They are very generous!
3) Like I said before, I dont really know if your GoPro is defected or whatever, but the gopro hero 5 has a slightly padded side and heavy plastic corners, so I find it odd that your GoPro was so bad.

Only issue I had with this camera was with over heading but I bought a metal case for it and that seem to fix the problem.
I use my session on my racing drone and it has been through countless crashes including falling from about 200 feet. I have had it for about 8 months now and it is a bit scuffed up but still works fine. They are pretty tough. I will however say that I use a tempered glass screen protector. I even crashed it straight into a metal fence pole which cracked the screen protector but the gopro was fine.
My sessions has been to hell and back in the three years I've had it and it still works perfectly. It sounds like you have a problem holding onto things, maybe a pair of velcro gloves might help?

@@alittle2fast785 I had a v50 elite, very good video but not so much for the sky when there's too much light. Audio wasn't the best, it's too bad it didn't have a external microphone port. All in all 4 out 5 stars. Good entry level action Cam
you were trying to connect your gopro while it was dead bruh
I've had mine for over 7 months and dropped it plenty and works fantastic, and connecting to the app is easy, you did it wrong you just have to keep your gopro on wifi and it will pretty much auto connect, all in all this gopro is very good and is worth the money if you get a metal case for it, as underwater it works really well too.
I have the session for about 5 years now. My points on agree and disagree below :
1. Sturdy: disagree with you. I have had a few rough experiences, but till date only a small scratch.
2. Waterproof: for your awareness, works great. But somewhere it says to keep it locked in the case befor going underwater. Reason not known to me, but I do that, and I have lot of videos with my kids underwater in pool or during sea bathing. Worked perfectly so far, no issues
3. WiFi connectivity: not as bad as you portrayed, but yes, given me headaches at times trying to connect, specially whenever tried with a new phone. My friend took it for his trekking trip, I had set it up with his phone, but finally his phone only helped. So one has to get used to use it.
4. Power backup: lucky if you did get 2 hrs of recording. I could not manage that time.
5. Negatives about no view screen, small control screen is accepted. But guess have learnt to live with that now 😂

My daughter and son-in-law gave me this go pro for a birthday present. I have dropped it four times and it still works so I did not have the bad experience that the reviewer (and it’s a very good review) had. My main beef with The go Pro is it’s software. I may be old and I may be losing it but so far I haven’t been able to get my pictures out of that little box and their explanations or at least my brain are wanting. I recently ordered from Amazon (of coarse) a book called go Pro for dummies. I hope it will help because I like having that little small camera with me it’s very easy to handle when you’re touring.

At 4:03 you can see the damage from the fall. You must be 20 feet tall because it took one hell of an end shot on something hard and sharp.
I do not own a Session, but the little camera really interests me just for the size factor of it. I would probably mainly use it as a selfie cam from the bike dash....but...since i still have a hero 3+Black and Hero 4 Silver, I feel like I would just be spending unecessary money just for a selfie mode!! great review

Most people tend to get a little too harsh when someone insults or talks negative about a brand they love, but I think it's important to know the bad stuff too and not only praise the good side. Just because is a GoPro, doesn't mean it's perfect. They have defective cameras as well, just as any other brand and unluckily, yours might be one of them. P.S. Did you manage to contact the GoPro customer service? Did they give a solution for your camera?
So I bought this camera with cash from a Best Buy store and threw out the receipt thinking the camera was bulletproof.
I am not dissapointed with it i was diving 10 meters deep,it flew out of the case while in air on my bike,dropped it from a balcony,even survived a drone freefall from 200meters and still works very well,best thing about it is the battery it lasts 2 months before any recharging. Thats just my option but i would recomend it 👌

Umm I fly FPV with mine all the time. I've crashed multiple times going at least 30mph I have no problems with mine.
The go pro session 5 does have image stabilization, in 2 7 k... search for it
My Hero 4 Session has been to hell and back and still works as good as new. I feel you may just have been a tad unlucky.
I think you might be right. They make a lot of these, so there are bound to be some that are faulty.
You know, I appreciate that you made this video because it shows the side of the GPS that many may or may not experience. Mine, the glass cracked while it was in my back pack. I’m assuming that something must have hit it perfectly square and cracked it. It happens but I like this little thing so I fixed it and moved on. I can’t believe but respect people that click on the thumbs down button. I get it on my videos too but I welcome it. Thanks!
The session is tough as nails, I have had mine for 4 years and still works great, it fell of my dirt bike and I ran it over and it is fine
Ohhh I needed it for dirt biking too. Do you just mount it on your helmet, body, etc. Or do you need extra equipment for stabilization?
The hero session can take abuse, I've had it for a few months now; I've dropped it at a few gigs; had people step on it a few times by accident; took it in water; and it still works beautifully; as for the app; I don't even bother; and for anyone transferring the videos or photos; always take out the sd card; no matter what device; it's so much faster. It's a great little camera, sorry to hear that it died on you!

Good review! I got an external battery now that can last up to 5 hours. I'm all about Go pro, I use my hero4 black and hero4 silver as my main cameras and my session as a secondary (soon-to-be tail cam). Keep up the videos like this and your channel will grow 😉

I haven’t had any of those problems, I don’t have to go all through all you do to get into the app, there is stabilization aromatic in the GoPro it’s all a brilliant camera 🎥
You never said what was wrong with the camera when you dropped it. I wanted to know if it was totally broken, or if it was just a dent.

i'm sorry, but looking at the state of that you can tell its had a hard life. No wonder it gave up. You won't even focus up close on the back of it because you can make out several marks/dents in the rear plate, which is metal. Sorry but all of that is not caused by 1 "drop" from waist height
It didn't. I know because I only had it a little over one week. I bought it brand new. It had an extremely ginger life.
Indeed. A little over a week old and the gopro looks like that? It`s a reason why it comes with a case, but it will still handle alot of drop`s without. And the Wi-fi issue is likely to be your old 5S and unupdated software...
Well doesn't explain why my other action camera's work with the wi-fi fine.....I know there are a lot of brand loyal people out there, but I am not paid by GoPro and am not a fan girl. I bought it brand new from Best Buy. It did not come with a case.

The GoPro app can turn the wifi on automatically. I never had to go to the settings on my phone and turn it on manually from there. But I use an Android phone, so...

Actually this is a very durable camera yours must have been flawed. I've been flying mine on a 90 mile an hour quadcopter for a year now it's a little beat up and the glass is broke but it still works it actually fell from 3,000 feet and still works. Very happy with mine
That's possible. They are mass produced, so some of them can and will be less than perfect. Yours seems pretty extreme. lol
While I saw a vid that someone dropped it from 1000feet so I’ll believe them
You should get the Hero 5 session it's way too durable for me I dropped it off a roof before a very high roof it still work
I know a store that had a couple for $74 and in trying to decide if it’s worth it or not.
I bought a used Hero session 4 and I think its pretty awesome...

It's essentially idiot proof. Mind you some people take " idiot " to a whole different level....😉 " A drop from about waist level to the ground " but fails to mention that the drop was from a moving motorcycle. 10/10 for being disingenuous , outright dishonest. 0/10 for credibility. Numpty.

Eken H9. The biggest issue is the battery life and it is not the best quality. It's a good second camera though.
You are saying it breaks easy. NO is doesn't. I fly with it on my Drone Racing quad and crash it all the time. I have broken the lens protector but the camera was still in great shape. The camera is tough. Very.
After 3 years and now that the camera is discontinued, I read the comments of the blind fans of gopro and they look way more stupid. This review is fine, too bad the video was attacked without reason.
Gopro session i have is awesome the only problem i have is that if i dont use it for a long time and try to make a vid or a pic it may freeze but everything else is good!

I'm not a GoPro Fan. Had one hated it. Have been using Drift Cameras since 2011....
I've heard good things about it. I almost bought one, but instead I purchased a camera that is supposedly the toughest a person can get their hands on...
We are using the same cameras ( on racing quadcopters... Normally they can really handle a lot of abuse.
I smashed mine with 60 MPH into some metal rods at an industrial building and it still works fine. Maybe you really had a bad one ?
Wow, someone had a bad luck with his GoPro and judged GoPro because he broke it himself. You shouldn't have cheaped out on extended warranty because they will replace it for free.
Actually the sessions good The thing is you dropped it it's not go pros fault of course it's going to break if it hits front first mostly all cameras do that it could be repaired to remember it's only the glass don't blame GoPro

I would recommend getting a case, but it is probably the best at the form factor function. Mine wasn't very tough though.
I have a GoPro hero session and I had it over 2 years now and it works wonders for me !! I bought it from Best Buy for $130.00 and I use it to make drumming vids !! So it's pretty cool until I can afford to buy the more fancy GoPro's....
So your telling me a camra that i lost under water for over 12 hours is garbage it still works
That thing has some massive dents, a waist high drop wont do that unless you where moving about 50 mph when you dropped it.

Lady, you are complaining about nothing. It may have just shut off from that small drop but I’ve dropped mine two stories while filming and it still works.

Can this session be charged while riding the motorcycle? I see a spring assisted door on the side of the camera for memory card and charging port, but if this case, would the side door allow you to open and still be in case flush?
What the hell did you do to that camera??? Why does it look like it got dropped off the side of a mountain if you only dropped it from waist high? If it did break so quickly it was just a faulty unit... GET IT REPLACED!!
I've pondered one as a B-camera (already have a Hero 4 Black as my main camera), but I could do so much better for so much less money. You've just confirmed this for me.

Listen this is a great gopro for beginner I got mine for 70$ on eBay works great well rounded only bad thing is there's no LCD screen but it makes sense Bc the session is small af but u get use to it Bc of the wild angle
I said something to that effect in my video about the best camera for you. Mine was super delicate though, so I recommend a case. If the delicate nature is too much, one might want to invest in a different camera.

If you have the app then you should know that you can change litterally everything from burst, time lapse and more.
And we use this camera for airsoft and have banged it on walls concrete and more and it’s fine lol
This girl is wrong on so many things it’s a great camera I own two of the Hero sessions. My hero 4 silver got lost at sea why surfing 🤦🏽♂️ but still have my two sessions ... for 1 u can hook up a Mic to it you need to buy the little cable for it that plugs into the charging port and turns that into a mic jack, and for getting into the app with Ezzz u have to go into settings on your phone and hit remember this device and have your WiFi already turned on before the app gets booted up then turn your GoPro on and get it into WiFi mode . It connects every time I do it all the time right before I go surf to setup any new angle or delete old footage from the session before that i didn’t delete when I had the SD CARD OUT TO IMPORT IT ON TO MY IMAC

That’s because you don’t have it set to automatically to connect to your GoPro when u turn on the wii-fi Your WiFi should be turned on first then go to the app. Boot that up and then turn your GoPro on . I have to hero session for surfing and I have no issues getting into the camera to set it up and delete old video if needed ..
This is why I bought a GoPro HERO
it usually stays on my helmet so its not really going to break
seems the problem is being an iphone user rather than a go pro issue
Read the instruction helps a lot. The outer case provides enough protection. Picture of bike shows with GoPro without the case-NO NO.....For a $150.00 great picture quality and great technology .

I don't understand how your GoPro got so banged up? You said you dropped it just a few feet? Looks like you threw it off a mountain or just maybe wreaked your bike wearing it. All my GoPro's have been through hell and back. All still work fine.
