Great ideas for the boat! I have a sylvan that is nearly identical and this is the best redesign I’ve seen. That gap between the front seat and the bow point is a waste of space. Like a lot of the comments on here I’m both happy to see young people doing this and feeling way too old 😂. Carry on gentlemen.
I just had a family friend give me a 66 mirrocraft 14 ft v hull boat. It's gonna be my first boat build and restore. I'm excited to do it for me and my 7 year old son. It seems like it's gonna be a very stressful job. I kinda have OCD and want everything to be perfect. So many ideas going though my head.

I wish i never found this channel lol , I’m itching to find a 14-16ft aluminum boat to do a build on . I’ll probably look for a old 14-16ft starcraft that’s a closed bow with a windshield and then remove the windshield and cut the front making it a open bow because boats like you guys have cost the same or more as a older starcraft of the same size here in canada and those starcraft are tanks ,very well built . I can get one for $3k or less just hate to butcher one up being there classic boats but with the closed bow you lose so much space . . Love the channel and can’t wait until you post new fishing videos with the new boat you just finished
Amazing boat! you guys crushed it! I just saw a video worrying me a little about making sure I put enough sea foam in the boat if I add wood. How safe and secure would you say your boat feels after having it for awhile? I feel like if the weight doesn't exceed the boats weight capacity your fine right? Everyone I see making these boats seem to be doing fine with very minimal foam and doing fine with the pink foam sheeting under floor boards.

It was actually pretty nice to fish in. We had three guys in it on one occasion on some big water and I remember we were pleasantly surprised that it handled about the same as before.
Looks great guys. Question, when water gets in the boat from rain or out on the water, where will it drain ? There does not appear to be a clear path under the decking to drain.
Big idea what I'd you put a livewell in that spot in the back next to the driver. Just get a cooler, an arearor, pump, drill some holes and connect the lines.
The deck is cut to wedge against the sides of the hull. It wasn't my idea but it gets the job done. I personally would have riveted an aluminum strip to the side and bent a tag end which would stick out from the hull to screw and support the deck.
Y'all did a fantastic job the boat. How much extra weight did you add ? Will you have to increase your horse power, can you without going over maximum rated HP to boat size ? Really great looking boat.
I think when it was all said and done it totaled to be around 150 lbs. The boat was slow to begin with, only having a 6 1/2 horse Johnson so I believe the top speed dropped from 9 mph to 8.
I am thinking of doing something similar to my 14ft Harbour craft. Just wondering how you guys made the front part, between the front seat and the very tip of the boat, stable enough to stand on? It looked like you just put a piece of plywood from the edge of the seat and let it rest on the side walls of the bow of the boat ...
Yup, that’s basically what we did with additional under framing. It was stable enough for a guy to stand on but if you wanted even more structural support I’d probably look into riveted support tabs on the side of the hull. We’ve never done it ourselves, but that appears to be the next best solution. Hope this helped!

Yes, 9:10 in the video gives a glimpse of the under framing which just consisted of 2x2's screwed to the underside for rigidity. The only spots supporting the deck are the fixed front seat and the natural taper of the hull which keeps the deck wedged at its set height, hence why the front deck dimensions needed to be as precise as possible.
Hey guy. I’m impressed with what you did with the boat I’ll be using some of the knowledge you gave me for my boat. Just one word of advice tone down the enthusiasm. Other than that great job guys!
We reinforced the bottom of the deck with furring strips and cut the front as close as we could to the shape of the hull. Because the hull tapers down at the front, the deck applies pressure to either side due to its shape which keeps the deck from sagging in. Its holding up very well and we have not had any issues with it yet.
It holds up surprisingly well, but it can get scuff marks if something metal rubs against it with force. Otherwise it is some crazy tough stuff and work great on both boats and trailers!

I was thinking about raising my deck in a 14 ' deep V Mirrocraft but I am hesitant to spend the money because I'm worried that raising the center of gravity might make the boat become too easy to tip over. Did you experience any problem like that? Or does the added weight of the frame in the bottom keep raised deck stable? Does anyone have any opinions about this or solutions they used if it caused any problems. Thanks
We surprisingly didn’t notice any major difference in stability, the boat seemed to perform almost identical as before. The biggest change which seems to affect stability is the actual weight in the boat (people, gear, etc.). The deck was rather lightweight for how large it was (around +\-40 lbs) which is the main reason for why I think it worked as well as it did.

My two sons were spending way too much time playing videos so I bought them new empty computer towers to build their own computers. I love Minnesota almost all my relatives live there and have since the 1800s. What area do you guys live in? In 1996 I caught a twenty pound forty-seven inch Northern Pike up in Ely. I have that fish mounted on my office wall. I live in northeastern California and do a lot of fishing up here. Anyway thanks for the video and enjoy your boat!
Surprisingly no, indoor outdoor carpet is meant to not only look good for indoor applications, but also resist stains and fading from outdoor use. Almost every stain I have gotten on my carpet has come out with a little elbow grease. We would go with marine carpet but its like 4X the price.
If you do something like this again, you could use painted styrofoam boards to section off hatches and it would help with stability and add to the reserve buoyancy if you manage to swamp it

Thanks, we’ve never had a problem with weight and decking yet. The pink foam is great to throw under deck is you feel it needs more flotation.

If I remember correctly this was an issue that was usually remedied with a dry towel.

That's ultimately why we didn't use rivets either. The reinforcement seemed to do the trick for us since its such a weird shape with odd dimensions.

We used some discounted stain and sealer from a local hardware store and 1/2” regular plywood.

South Western MN, but a lot the times we end up wandering up north because the water gets significantly clearer.

The decks are just sitting on the stock bench seats but it would probably be advantageous to lower them a few inches.
