Something I picked up is, to take a torch to your hole saw before going though the carpet. It won't cause you carpet to get chewed up. It will melt the edges of the nylon fibers.

If you get it right, you could take an old hole saw and sharpen the edges to where you have a punch for your carpet. I don't really know how practical the tool would be on Marine carpet, but it's a thought. I haven't tried this, but thought I would mention my thoughts.

    Very nicely done. Awesome job.
We did the same thing to a 19’6” 1984 Renken bowrider with the old OMC Seadrive set up. Complete rebuild of boat and motor. Trailer was junk so we bought a new aluminum one for it. All in all we spent approximately $3500 from purchase to using it and we have what the insurance company valued at $15,000 boat. I’m extremely happy with that.
    Safe boating my friend.

I do it about the same as you in NW, except some of us, right before trailers in water we stop an tie bow line to back of trailer an unhook wench an safety. Then i back in an watch boat slip off trailer then I pull forward until rear of trailer again out of water. Now you didn't need to get out an get feet wet. Just back in, boat slips off, pull trailer back out of water with boat tied to rear of trailer. We do it different with two or more involved in launch. You did great job on your boat motor an trailer! Check list is important and consistency trying to do everything the same that's where your check list comes in. Thanks Tim

One more thing I think I'd do - reward the project with a new steering wheel - something pricey, chromey, maybe with dark wood trim. That way everytime you touch the boat you'd be reminded of the quality and work that went into it. Would look cool too. Nice job, something to be proud of for sure!

nice job... That's what I do for Extra Change, I'm 50 and retired a few years ago and needed something to do so I picked up a Free Boat on a trailer. I only wanted the trailer but the aluminum Boat was really nice except it had some damage where it had fallen off the trailer at freeway speeds and then hit by a car . I own my own fab shop but no longer work their daily. with the guys I have it runs itself.
That said there is no sheet-metal/aluminum work or welding I cant do, so I fix up mainly aluminum boats and Occasionally a fiberglass or a wooden boat.. There is good money in it if you don't mind hard work and dirty hands. I've already made over 20K this year on Craig's list free boats!

We just bought a 1985 15'6" Kingfisher today. It's not as rough a shape as the one in the vid, but does need a little TLC. Can't wait to get it lookin good again. Mainly, it needs to have the gel coat repaired along the rim of the deck. It's worn down to the fiberglass in some places, but no chips. I'm thinking about just using the spray on bedliner and coat it with that. Being waterproof and slightly rough, but not scratchy, I think it will work well. Thanks for a fantastic vid.

That is insane how you transformed that crappy boat into the best boat ever. I would rather buy that boat instead of a 2019 new boat. You did a good job good luck fishing on that sweet boat.

I just bought this same boat style for $300 with a Johnson 35 on it. The trailer is galvanized and the motor has tilt/trim and runs. I am going to remove the console and make it a stick steer boat all from the front seat. I have to cut out the floor just like you did and replace the transom. I hope I can make it look as good as you did.
