Assuming that Texas passes the bill you cite, what actions can the federal government take in enforcing Federal law and what actions is the it likely to take? It seems to me that if Texas is adamant about rejecting federal jurisdiction, and obdurate to entreaties of the federal government, the only meaningful option left to the federal government is military intervention. And frankly, I doubt Congress would accede to such an action by the Commander in Chief (the president). And the reaction to military intervention would most likely be armed insurrection. In short, a new Civil War sparked by "gay" marriage is a distinct possibility. While that may sound ludicrous to the more rational among us, there are many gun-toting, theocratic extremists who would like nothing better.
Economic sanctions? Withdrawal of federal agents along the border and letting the state cover the cost? It would probably be cheaper to fence off Texas from the rest of the country and patrol that border instead. LOL
There are plenty of options short of military intervention. Cut off federal funds, legal action against key individuals (e.g. Atty general). And don't forget there is a large and growing level of support for marriage equality within Texas.
I don't understand what the fuss is about. Marriage equality is a win-win situation for everyone. The State can carry out a gender neutral Civil Marriage for everyone. Churches can carry out a Religious Marriage with the right to refuse wedding to homosexual couples. The biblical definition of a marriage between 1 man and 1 woman is unchanged. For those advocating that gay couple marriages should be called something else, you really need to ask this question .... Who issues marriage license? The State of course. If the state agrees to a new label, that would mean re writing ALL the laws on the land (including commercial laws). This would be extremely time consuming and costly. It's much more cost effective to just make marriage, as recognized by the laws, gender neutral.
