Your simple straight-forward updates are very helpful. I hope to someday see Judge Roy Moore on the news in handcuffs being led away, yelling "I'm the Chief Justice of Alabama! ...let go of me!"
ziffulmyer You know, that's not completely far-fetched. If he really wanted to put on a show of civil disobedience, he could get himself arrested. I think that would play right into his hands, too: an elderly man arrested for standing up for what he thinks is right? What a martyr.
Matt Baume What would happen would probably be the Alabama Judicary Court would have a hearing. If they removed him then the state Supreme Court can uphold or reverse it. Given how they voted in the recent gay marriage ruling i'm guessing they would probably not uphold a ruling that removed Moore unless he was really foaming at the mouth and not stopping. All it would do is make him a martyr and if he was in jail the governor would probably pardon him. I mean he is too old to stand again for Chief Justice if he gets removed but a legislator already proposed to extend the age limit for him. The solution is for good old christians to send him fat laden cakes etc and hope that shortens his years.
Matt Baume Matt, it seems most people are less interested in Roy than the fact of his Son going to Prison this being his 3rd drug conviction & Who will be his Lucky cellmate
Matt, thank you for these reports! Can you comment more on the Alabama mess? I thought the lawyers were going to file something so that the Federal judges' ruling would apply to all the probate judges and all same-sex folks seeking marriage. Honestly, I'd hate to see this stretch out until SCOTUS ruling -- then their tactics would have won --- it will only encourage then to flaunt more laws then don't like.
These reports are excellent when they stick to the legal and political happenings regarding same-sex marriage. For some reason, there is a report in here about what some church has decided about gay marriage. Since when do religions have anything to do with civil marriage? Since never. Religion has nothing at all to do with this issue.
In the US, religion will always have something to say about all this because far too many religious people think marriage is a religious thing or that it should only be a religious thing.

He actually recused himself from the first state supreme court ruling at least. He's just running his mouth.
I'd want to see what he feels like to go from a black robe to an orange jumpsuit.

Anyone have comments on what's the legal recourse to the Alabama gay marriage state-federal stand off.
