Great video! I blew the gfi circuit out in Natchez trace state park. The gfi would not reset and I never messed with the inverter before. Opened the inverter cover flipped the 15amp circuit breaker and WALAH! Power in the outlets! Here comes the coffee..😎
Great video, as always. Packed with useful info for those that are new, and those of us that can use a refresher from time to time. I would add that on 12v frame ground locations they be inspected at the beginning of the season. I use a small brass wire brush, remove grounds, check connectors, clean any rust from connectors, attachment screws, and threaded holes. Reattach grounds using contact cleaner. I am impressed with your analytical processes. Beginning to finish your vid was packed with common sense approaches to common electrical problems. You have impressed upon others the need to slow down, observe, analyze, form a plan of attack, and complete a task by relying on one's self. "Knowledge is the basis of problem solving, injected with a large dose of self reliance, and a pinch of confidence." All things are possible!! Bless you, and your Family. See you on the trail.
We've been using an old, dual axle '91 Jayco Cardinal 6 for the past two years (no real power, busted lift kit, broken stabilizing feet, ripped canvas, terrifying heater), and just invested in a 2022 Rockwood HW 277 yesterday. Your videos have been INCREDIBLY helpful in setting us up for success with our new PUP! Thank you, thank you!
Thank you. Just found your channel. This video filled a lot of gaps I have in prepping our 96 Coleman/Fleetwood Laredo. ( our first camper and overall in decent shape except for electrical and the propane tank mount)
Thank you for this very helpful video, my daughter just bought a 98 Coleman Taos as a project. It currently has no floor so getting the electric squared away is job one. At least we can see everything , I know the very basics , but this video is just what we needed.I’ll be following you , because I’m sure we’ll run into more issues soon 😂. Thanks and God bless you 😎
Great video man. I love learning more about campers. It makes me feel more ready. We went a few weeks ago and I bought solar panels with a charge controller and with limited garage space I figured I would hook up a power quick connect to the battery but I would do the rest of the installation while camping lol 😂 it went fine. I had to make a couple guesses due to poor instructions and no cell service lol. Also I made the reflective inserts for the windows. The first night we didn’t have them and the heater was constantly turning on. The next night with them it was much nicer. It definitely works. Thank you for all you do.
First time I've seen this great video and your channel. Thank you! I was looking for preview of my upcoming attempt at adding a DC Bluetooth Ammeter in my Viking behind the WFCO and add a new wire feed on one of the existing circuits that isn't being used much. I'll remove the WFCO cover to expose where the wires come onto the front next to the fuses and then pull each fuse to see which appliances are wired to which colored wire. With the DC Red wire nut you've indicated where the POS might come in, but didn't show where the NEG (white) would come it, although I assume it's somewhere on a terminal bar attached to that copper ground wire. I'll go looking! Thanks, again.
Excellent video Thanks! I have a 2007 fleetwood santa fe popup and would like to replace the hardwired smoke detector with a battery only smoke detector. There is no plug on the wired detector so would need to cut the wires to get it off. Will this affect other components in the popup?
Thank you for this. My hubs and I traded our popup in for a travel trailer last year, but realize the "2" of us that the travel trailer sleeps means our friends and family can't come along, so I picked up a cheap fb marketplace pop up and am fixing it up for "friends and family". My hubby is a genius when it cones to this stuff, but I'm clueless...however, I want to learn. I don't think he is getting my hints about learning! So now I have a better idea of our systems and how to check things and can talk with at leart a little bit of intelligence.
love your videos us them all the time been following you for about a year and a half been camping fo a year still us you old videos when iam out and run in to problems.
Great job and thank you! I’m hoping to see something from your channel on the exterior lights or running lights. Please provide me a link if you have a trouble shooting solution. Thanks in advance
I was ready to do some heavy wiring tracing until I watched your video. On an older coleman popup the flip up stove/sink got out of line and did not press the shut off switch. After check I my lights work. It was confusing that my out side light did work. Thanks.
thank so much, my problem Is little bit more....I have a 99 Coleman Santa fe popup Hello, I'm looking for the electrical schematic diagram for the 1999 Santa Fe Popup. Last time I used it, the lights and all the electrical worked fine but after three months of storage, nothing electrical works. From the battery to the converter box I have the proper voltage. In the converter box, the top 2 fuses are fine but the bottom (3rd) battery fuse blows as soon as it is put in place. 12.8v (battery voltage) is measured at that fuse receptacle. I heard it might be the kill switch according to the one video I saw from you. Other than that, something is causing the one fuse to break but yet I have nothing on in the pop-up unit. So that's why I am asking for the electrical schematic design and the event I have to follow and search for a short. Do you know where I might find one? Thank you
Great video! I’m tryin to determine the best course of action with a 12v battery. If I use just that can I run a fan and charge phones overnight? It sounds like no to me based on the video, but if I can’t what is the battery really useful for when boondocking? We may not have shore power available to us this go round.
You can definitely charge phones overnight. The fan will largely depend on the wattage and keep in mind it’ll have to be a 12v fan. Maybe a battery powered fan would be a good option?
Appreciate all the videos! I have an 06 Coleman Fleetwood Americana Timberlake. When I'm plugged in to shore power the AC will work, however my lights and outlets are no longer working. I have replaced the kill switch and no luck. Breakers and fuses in converter all seem to be good. Any thoughts on this?
Great Video.. I have a 2001 pop-up new to me.. If the battery is dead or disconnected should I be able to run the lights on the inside of the trailer from shore power? The outlets inside are working but no lights. Also when the battery is fully charged and connected are the lights supposed to work or is there another place to check to make sure all is turned on?
Yes and yes - try and find the disconnect switch for the lights and see if it’s actuated. Alternatively, check the fuses in the converter to see if one is blown.
Hey, my man, thanks for all the videos! You’ve encouraged me to buy a 1999 Coachmen Clipper (my first rv)! The converter (Centurion 3000) recently started giving off a burning smell…
Hey! You always have great camper information. I need a powered trailor dolly to move my Rockwood Pop- Up around on my campsite property. It's 12ft closed up, wieghs 1800 lbs. Which dolly would you recommend! Thanks
I wanted to ask you a question, I hope you can help me. I have a regular pop-up and I want to put a solar panel on it, just to charge the battery. The idea is to eliminate the possibility of charging the pop up's battery through the truck (when connected) and charging it with the solar panel or when you connect the pop up to city power, it only works (automatically) with the latter. Do you know how it could be done? From already thank you very much
Hi- I don't currently own a Pop-up camper, but my Husband and I are in the search for a Pop-up camper that can be pulled with a 2020 Subaru Outback. What do you suggest as a light pop-up camper ? I've watch many of your videos and do appreciate you keeping in simple for those beginners like me!! We are in search of a small pop-up since in will be just my husband and of course our dog. We don't need a toliet or shower or AC since we do camper at State Parks for the most part. But it would be a plus. I can always use a fan for AC, since those can be heavy. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance.
Any tips for restoring a water damaged lid on the front end storage box? 😁 I can’t quite figure out how to Contact you guys and have had trouble finding any local help with this…been watching your videos for a year and a half or so. Always so helpful!
What about the trailer lights for when traveling? Ours doesn't work, so we had to get the magnetic lights that plugged into our tow vehicle. I'd like to get the lights working again but don't know where to start. We have a 1997 Coleman Seapine. It doesn't have the electrical brakes.
I also had to change my converter because the 12 volt side went bad, not an easy job, but I did it myself. Only problem is the outlet next to it doesn't work.
I have a 2008 niagara fleetwood and my back passenger blinker light and brake light keeps blowing out the fuse in my truck and stop working what can i do to fix it?
Does anyone know where i can source a replacement roof top AC power cord for a pop up? These things are like unicorns! I bought a used Pony 2100 and it was using two 6' grey extension cords. Where do you get your parts for your pop-up campers when you need to replace or repair it the reason I’m asking is because I have a 2000 Coleman/Fleetwood Cheyenne that I need parts for like the storage box top
New pop-up owner here, this video was super helpful, thanks. I am dealing with a mystery that I can't solve, and I wondered if you had seen before. When the camper is plugged into shore, power, I plug in an electric heater that runs at 700 watts. After about two minutes, the 15 amp breaker trips. I don't understand why. It doesn't appear to be related to the outlet I'm using, because this happens no matter which outlet I choose. At 700 watts, I'm only running about 6.3 amps, yet the breaker is tripping. Have you seen this? Otherwise the system seems in good shape. Thanks.
I don’t have the complete answer but after watching many vids I noticed a lot of campers plug in those types of appliances with a regular cord directly in the electrical box do to the constant tripping of the breakers.
Can you tell me when you're not hooked up to shore power does your interior lights work off the battery? Because ours doesn't and I can't figure out why not..

Thanks for exploring this with us. I want to add a 4-in-1, 12v charger panel, that has usb/cig lighter/voltage meter/on-off switch so my grandkids can charge their devices inside the Pop Up. @@ItsPoppin I did I guess the outlet not link to the power when running by battery I test it out when we got home and plug the camper to the house outlet and everything including the outlet work
If anyone would like to help me out here I have a 2013 Forest River Rockwood we plugged a mini heater into one of the outlets and within 5 minutes it cut off I went over and pushed the reset button on the GFCI and nothing happened now none of my electrical plugs anywhere work. What could be possibly going on. I checked all the fuses and I checked all the breakers and everything is turned on and the fuses were fine but the GFCI will not reset.
Hi, can someone explain something to me.. This popup only has 1 battery. I looked up on line how long can that battery run 12 volt lights, and it said about 4 hours, so what i want to know is 1. how do people use it for the whole day or two? 2. What charges the battery when u are not plugged in? 3. Even fully charged, how is that battery strong enough to run lights, whatever you have plugged into your outlet and a heater or AC?? Lol Please, someone explain this to me
Switching out the bulbs for 12v LED bulbs helps significantly in addition to only turning on the lights when needed. The previous comment regarding question 2 is correct, the only way to charge battery is by being plugged in or getting power from solar or a generator. Also, of note, your 120v outlets will not work on battery power. You need to be plugged into shore power for your outlets to work.
Great video, very informative. However, could you please video not in portrait mode, could not see shit when your hands were involved. Focus kept moving between hands and product, it was really hard to follow visually.
Not true! because of this video I FINALLY have figured out why my new battery isn’t working! I didn’t realize the wiring goes through the converter!!! thank you It’s Poppin! Electrical Newbie here
