A crock pot is your friend in the camper...put a whole meal on in the morning before you head out doing Motley things, and the cooking is done when you get back, and if you use a liner bag, there's no clean up afterwards, just trash the liner!

I really need to find more recipes so I can use my crock pot. My recipes make everything taste the same, so I don't want that when camping. Please share a few recipes

Wd40 is not a lube, for cables and anything exposed to dust use a silicon based lube!

thats right WD40 is a water displacer not a lubricant use moly or even anti seize. wd is good for spraying into electric terminals exposed to elements

Just finished unpacking and drying our old pop up after a fun weekend! One trick we use is a split pool noodle on the end between the roof and canvas to direct the A/C condensation away from the canvas, keeps everything nice and dry👍

Don’t forget the square bit screwdriver. Many campers use this type of screw. Phillips sort of works, but the square bit is better.
I hate those stupid squares bit screws. I'm redoing my 1976 Jayco and they are a nightmare
I camp with an older Jayco - 2001 12 UDST. We also never use the water heater, in fact we never use the water system in the camper at all, we just use a 7 gallon aquatainer. Works well for us and we have actually removed the sink for more counter space and much easier to set up. In regards to all the stuff you carry, we have a bigger camper and I think we have about 1/10th the stuff you have and we camp with from 4-7 kids. All you need to do is take a couple of longer trips (multiple locations, national parks....) and stay at some sites without electricity and you will start taking a lot less stuff. For sure it is hot in FL in the summer, which is why it is great to camp off season when it is cooler and a lot more pleasant outside. Once each year you should do maintenance on all of the camper systems and wipe down and vacuum out all of the rarely used spaces. You'll catch any issues early that way and the camper will last a long time for you. It looks like you only weekend camp in FL with electricity, I would encourage you to get out on longer trips to some other areas, especially some of the national parks, there are some fantastic places to see in the US and camping is a way that you can do that cost effectively. But, to enjoy that you have to learn to camp without 120 hookups as almost all of the NPs don't have hookups in their campgrounds. It is not a big deal if you have a battery and are used to it, but it might take some changes for you with the reliance you have on 120V things. It is a great opportunity for the kids to get out there and see all the great things across the US, and there is a lot to see.

After watching you guys go through the list of all you have to do, I'm worn out. I might just have enough energy to make it to the fridge for another cold one, but that's it.

I’ve gone from tent to pop up to travel trailer and back. Pop up is by far my favorite, it’s just so convenient. Oh and I use a cordless drill to lower and raise my jack stands, it’s so easy!!! Thanks for sharing.
Same for me. Fill circle; tent, to truck tent, to toy hauler.. back to tent and now pop up.. love it! 18.7MPG towing with my Outback. Easier than a tent to set up and I have a shower and toilet. I can get it into any spot and of the grid! Dirt cheap and a ton of fun!

A couple of 2 or 3 week long trips to multiple destinations will quickly cure them of that habit and they will truly only bring what they need.
Check the wheel bearing grease, lug nut torque and tire pressures before each trip. Make sure your spare tire is in good shape and holds air. Have a clipboard or use an app on your for for running list of things to fix, buy, replace, replenish while on a trip. Take care said items on the list as soon as possible when you get home.
Tire pressure for sure(including spare), but you aren't going to check the bearings before each trip and lugs should never have to be checked again after a recheck right after a tire change.
@@christopherhaak9824 Let me clarify a tad. Wheel bearings torque, grease condition, and both front/rear seals should be checked for sure if the trailer has sat for a long time (>6 months) between uses and/or has been exposed to varying temperatures such as hot summer/fall to cold winter/spring. Obviously repacking a old school style axle bearings is more time consuming, but I would much rather do it in my driveway, and not along a hot busy highway. Wheel lugs should absolutely be checked as well during your routine (bring it out of storage to use) check list. If the trailer is used all the time throughout the year, checking these items a few times within that year is cheap insurance.
Your mileage may vary on when and what you check on your trailer. My personal experience has found lugs that have loosened up here and there, as well as wheel bearing grease that needed to be pushed through and replaced (EZ lube axle). It's quick and easy to do. Found a cracked rear seal on my parents little Aliner trailer before a trip. Grease was coming out of the back side of the axle.
So I highly suggest fixing the sink my new to me popup, we went a few times without water or sink and I fixed it last weekend and my old 99 coleman hot water heater even works so now our outdoor shower and indoor sink work great very nice not having to walk to a shower house everytime we need to clean something!

penetrating oil (PB Blaster) works great on the tongue jack if it's stubborn, and teflon based firearm oil works great for the slides since it's designed to not evaporate.
Love PB Blaster and you are 100% correct about gun oil.

Good ideas! Especially for a slide-in pickup camper that has even less space than your trailer. Just learned this one, add Clear Gorilla Tape to your kit and a portable air compressor.
Great video. Besides a family member motivating my wife and myself to buy a pop up, you guys were our internet inspiration to buy our first pop up last year. Now all we think about is camping and is to make our experience better. We started with a 2002 Coleman and quickly upgraded to a fleetwood 05 highwall😂

I believe you can get a cover for the AC unit that will keep the wasps out when your storing it.

The electrical issues...there are torque specs on all electrical connections. The salt air can cause oxidation on All metals. Yes, even copper. Especially aluminum. There is a product that can be applied at the point of connections and terminals. If it is not a molded plug, it alone is not necessarily weather or wet location approved.
Check the Ampere or Amp rating of the appliances you use. A resistive electrical heating element is a large electrical load. They should probably have a separate cord to supply them. All electrical appliances should have a "name plate" with electrical use or ratings.
Use Ohms Law. Volts times Amps = Watts. Therefore, Watts divided by Volts = Amps. A 1500 watt microwave ÷ 120 volts = 12.5 amps, just by itself. I bet that electric griddle is also a substantial wattage appliance. An electric water heater is another substantial load. Amps and/or Watts add up, literally.
My goal is to inform and assist or help, not berate in any way. Those small electrical appliances can literally burn you up.
The circuit breaker's job is to protect the conductor it supplies, not the appliances.

I agree Tina it is tag just me retired woman. Tiny pop up 850 lbs so it does not have all the do dad's but a tutorial would be lovely and appreciated.
We now have a Starcraft AR-one max. But we had a pop up for a few years. It was so easy to store and haul and you couldn’t beat the Ac in it. It was like sleeping in a refrigerator!! But we outgrew it. I also had a wire come loose at the power cord from it being pulled out and pushed back in. It was one little strand that was touching metal and my breaker box was smoking and glowing red. Probably time to check my new trailers wiring. Oh yeah and grease the bearings😂 nice video!!!!
Yes on the tins! We use those all the time. We keep cheap trays from Ikea for carrying things or as lap tables. Also tarps and rope to rig rain or sun shelter and rope and bungees for drying lines.

A must have for any pop up camper is a 50 amp to 30 amp. adapter
Guys, please just wash dishes, don't use foam plates. Us campers are supposed to respect nature! :)
It is actually easier to just use and wash melmac dishes all the time unless you are really pressed for time (like breakfast in the morning and have to leave early). You have to wash your cooking pots and pans anyway so it is no bit deal. Also, if you have a dog, you can use the dog to "pre-rinse" the dishes for you so there is a lot less to wash.
We usually camp with extended family and don't often have hook ups, so have to heat up water to wash pots, etc. Paper plates get 'recycled' as campfire kindling. We do reuse cups (each person uses the same one for multiple days) and silverware. Trying hard to respect nature!
Paper plates are fine cause we burn them as campfire starter but I agree about foam plates.
That's the camping life. Just like a home. It has to be kept up. Happy campers make good friends.

Rented a camper off of Outdoorsy for July 4th. Came back to the camper from the lake after a sudden storm crepy up on us. Awning was folded in the middle and hanging down. The Roller for the awning bent in half. Things just happen.

We go camping to the Keys for 40 + years and the best thing we bought 2 years ago was a small ice maker at Sams. I think it has already paid for not buying ice !

Just purchased a 2004 Fleetwood but I noticed around the screens on the two main windows for the table is not where the beds are. Its zipper itself is in good condition but the seam has come apart from the canvas. What can I use to sew that with to fix it. I was thinking fishing wire and glue

You guys should try camping at Elkmont Campground in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. You would love it there. Very helpful clip. Do you think you will ever upgrade to a larger travel trailer?

I will give you the best tip about a pop up camper. Don't own one. I was a former owner 6 months free.
We've owned our pop-up for about 30 years and still going strong! We just got home from a trip to Michigan's upper peninsula
Protip: If you're going to have sex in a pop up, make sure another couple is doing it on the other end at the same time to avoid tipping.

I got so so lucky yesterday, there was a lady in my hometown who was selling a 1978 starcraft galaxy 6 in great condition . it needs some renovations on the inside and the roof but everything works and the canvas is in perfect condition ! my husband and I are going to start working on it but the heat here in las vegas is just too much to go work on during the day & we are not very handy. We don't even know where to start!

WD 40 REMOVES most greases and oils. Only use WD40 to clean up and free parts, then you need to use lubricant after to keep it moving.

I'm in a rented RV this week. Everything was furnished except our food. A lot of the stuff we don't use. In fact, we try to use the bathroom as little as possible. No one likes to have hookup chores for the sewer line that has to be cleaned every time we move to a new campsite. Thanks for your post, Yak. There are a lot of little things to think of when camping in a popup. I did that once with a popup camper that my neighbor let me use. It was fun, but there were a lot of little chores that had to be done everyday.

TIP: Don't use teflon use cast iron ;)
This was a great video to help people know what to do and have for pop up camping.I personally like two frying pans and two sauce pans. One sauce pan I like to have heating water for washing dishes.

@@angiedixon3281 I love all the comments for additional tips and tricks. We are tent campers and my kitchen fits inside a rubbermade tub. Oh to have the bed off the ground. Trying to choose pop up camper or hard side travel trailer.
@@khowe1747 we were tent campers, before we found our camper at a yardsale about 15 years ago. If it were me, I would wait until next year or the year after and all the people who bought campers during Covid will be wanting to sell. Which means you could buy at a good deal. You know, the people that are a little "too soft" for camping will want to unload. In regards to our "kitchen" it is a extra large 3 drawer Rubbermaid container.

eeek! Please don't assume that 'the guys' are the only ones who have a tool kit (13 min mark). My adult daughters and I all have our own (and our hubbies are constantly raiding them when they can't find their own sh** One even has pretty pink handles in hope that if her guy is forced to borrow that he will at least return the tool to it's rightful place (ha!)

I can use tools better than most boyfriends I’ve had. I was just gifted a 99 Coleman pop up in mint condition and I’m currently redoing the entire roof and inside ceiling by myself. Already replaced one of the lift cables and I’m planing to completely remodel it next. Ain’t no man needed 😂

yep after 2 pop ups and fixing to buy our 3rd in tomorrow. the main thing ive learned is pmcs. for you civilians that means preventive maintenance.. and lubing the cables and pulleys are number 1!!! good idea what you said if it moves lube it..

Those fan light combos suck. The bulb gets hot enough to melt the lens. Get led or just get the solar inflatable lanterns.

@@YakMotley Just don't leave the light on unattended. My lens melted, caved in and the bulb blew. We have no AC so real fans are a must.
@@YakMotley I have to agree. LED is a much better choice. I'm looking to see if anybody addressed the electrical issues. If not, I'm about to. I got my NC Electrical license in my early 20's. Not trying to beat anybody up. I just want to help you guys if I can.
You can replace the bulbs with LEDs, it is simple and cheap and then you don't have heat issues. The LED bulbs are about $1 each. In fact, I would recommend replacing all of the camper lights with LED bulbs.

We don’t take the coffee pot that needs to be plugged in what is a percolator that we can cook on the stove saves room it’s just a fission I’ve had to pop pops stop Bob this is my second one upgraded I’ve had to fit wheels I could not get to where I needed to get with the fifth wheels but yeah you’ll need a couple thanks for cooking I took about a set up right where I could take a run on the lantern a grill and a cook stove outside we’re not cooking our pop-up we preferred to be off grid and you cannot run air which I have error on mine but it just doesn’t cool and it will pop a circuit I have a 2019 clipper the biggest thing people need to know is you need a front trunk on there for storage I had one before they didn’t have it it’s a big big plusSaint current access and little tools Van Ness and not my clipper slides one way or the other and it has made a drastic change in a lot of things and if you’re off grid you wanna current coach some type a solar panel which I am getting ready to order but we love our pop-up person or 30 foot fifth wheel because we never did anything when it got hot
