My husband used pvc pipes and connected it with zip ties to hang my blackout curtains in our older pop up. I agree the reflectives help tremendously. I use my crockpot but definitely suggest plugging it in directly to electric box , I kept popping the breaker. Love the water filter that directly plugs into the water lines. Great ideas ,keep posting. Greatest idea was that book. Making memories is what life is all about!!

When you disconnect your trailer leave the chains on until you get unhooked. But please remember to unhook your chains after you have lifted the trailer off your rig.

And AFTER you get those wheel chocks into place! We've been lucky to have had level sites so far. But I'd sure hate to have our Pup roll away, hit a child, or anyone, tree or something else, and have a camping catastrophe. I'm going to get another set, just as to have, front and back of the wheels.

Your ENTHUSIASM has inspired us to keep our 2001 Coleman pop-up instead of getting something new that’s easier to open. It doesn’t leak and owes us nothing. We just need to learn to bring less stuff to decrease the timing on closing camp. Our trailer needs to fit in a garage so the choices are limited to ones with very small inside space with no big, strong awnings. We are 72 and 79 years young. We use a drill that my husband adapted to replace our hand crank that lifts up the roof. 😊 I’m going to sew those fun ceiling murals and we’ll buy reflective covering. Yes, we have the 2” foam bed cover which makes a big difference.a

I think the best thing we have done so far was getting the Pop Up Gizmos. They really do help keep the bed areas cooler and you can sleep a bit later. I also like to slip reflectix into the windows of the sunny side of bed end windows. Get the PUGs or cover the ends with Reflectix. You will be glad you did. If you are looking for smaller pieces of reflectix for the windows, you can find the car windshield sunshades very cheaply at thrift stores and yard sales (or maybe for free from family that aren't using theirs.)

We bought the mattress topper before the very first campout! I was checking into tips since we bought it, even. We left it on the mattress, but it was a bit of a struggle to get that top down over it when we closed up. So then, I'd roll that sucker up after each trip the past two years. But this last time, we just discovered that if we fold it into 4ths, and lay it on the bench/table area, it fits, out of the way, till next trip, and it's alot easier than rolling it up and stuffing back in the zippered bag it came in! Inthinknitnwillnhelp in airingnit out a bit if I open the short door (It's kept in our garage).
I will have to check into the Reflectix. We've had some rather warm campouts in past years.
What sold us, (well, at least sold my husband on it)
on our pop up was the bike rack on top that came with it.
But, he's the only one that can actually lift the bikes onto it! I'm a bit short, and it's hard for me to lift bikes up when on a step stool or ladder.
It holds 4 bikes, but, it's just our two that go on it. I'm just thrilled to have a pop up. We're pretty much done with tent camping. But we still have it, our rotating fan, and our air mattress, for matters that come up. 😏
As for water, we get the 1 gallon jugs of drinking water for our coffee pot and also the individual bottles that fit in the cooler with ice. We put the empty bottles in a separate totebag to take back home to put in our recycling bin.
My husband suggested we get a small microwave, and a small coffepot. I kind of chuckled at that idea, but, it's a good one. We don't have a pressure cooker, but we do have a crockpot. We've taken that, and it was handy. Made chicken and noodles for our family groups. Our daughter and her hubby use their pressure cooker in their RV a lot. They're both Good and Easy!

Hey there thank you for the great tips! We are looking to buy our first pop up at the end of this month that is a 02 and looks to be an excellent condition. I wanted to drop a note & tell you about your crock-pot, that is an excellent idea! We received a Crock-Pot as a gift but I had no idea where I put the manual, so when I looked it up by serial # & product # (I believe it's the same one that you have) I noticed they had a recall on my brand. It's basically the inside pot & pressure valve has to be replaced as the volume measurements are incorrect. They sent me the new pieces in about 3 weeks &
    * the old pot makes an excellent dog water bowl! LOL*
I just searched my Crock-Pot by the serial # as most of those brands have been recalled.

We chose 2" of memory foam over the original mattress because of cost mostly. Lots of people do replace the entire mattress with 4" of memory foam. You can do the Kleenex box test first to make sure it isn't too much.... Take the old mattress out and put an empty Kleenex box in its spot. Close the whole camper up and see if it gets squished. This can give you a rough idea of space. We have not tried all memory foam, so maybe a better place to ask would be on a FB group. If the memory foam is too plush, I wonder if you would feel the board underneath more.

It depends on the tires and clearance. Ours have pretty good radial tires, many have really dinky ones. But some are made for actual off roading.

@@AdventuresinPopUps I was looking at the turtle trailers but they are way too expensive.. I've been looking at used pop ups seems more practical

@@thomaswinnen4365 yes, they seem like the most practical choice to us. We have a why we bought a pop-up camper video that goes over pros and cons.

I bought a pop up and clearance isn't great but I will be doing a spring over axle conversion to gain 5-6 inches. I'll be getting larger tires too.

We did the 2" as a topper. 4-6" would be a whole mattress for us. 😊 Each camper has a different amount of space available.

No shoes outside. That is not a great idea. Snakes and scorpions can crawl into the shoes to sleep.

Good point! We bring them in at night. I have heard of people having surprises in their shoes!

I've forgotten my wheel chocks one time but luckily didn't disconnect the chain yet when I disconnected the hitch. Happens to all sooner or later.
