Stunning Coleman Pop Up Camper Remodel
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 28 сен 2024
- This year Alison's parents handed down their Coleman Pop Up Camper to us. Alison had many great memories travelling across Canada in this camper with her family and although we loved it just the way it was, we thought we'd bring it into the 2020s with some renovations.
Being stuck in Canada during the pandemic freed up our schedule quite a bit, so we decided to take on this project through the month of September with a timeline of having it finished to do some late season camping in October.
We put in long days most days of September and learned so many things along the way. We couldn't be happier with the result and are so excited to show all of you!
Take a look and we hope you enjoy.
Happy camping!

I’m fixing to remodel one and I can’t wait!! Thanks for the amazing inspiration ❤
Very nice, I like the decorative contact paper you put on top of the stove cover and those nice adventure and camping details you put on the door.
Thanks so much! We were so happy with how the contact paper worked! And the adventure decals area must ;)

we have a 1995 coleman that we bought last spring. It looks so much like yours. We used it last summer, but as plan to renovate this spring.
Good luck with your renovation! Would love to see the finished product :)
Wow !! Amazing job! What a transformation!
Loved your video! You both did an awesome job with the camper, it looks like it's brand new!
Thanks so much Glenn! We love it :)
This is awesome just bought a 85 coleman popup. Thanks for the great job shows me wht can be done
Love love what you've done. We've used a lot of videos for inspo, but keep coming back to yours. Your curtain material is exactly what we are looking for. Would you mind sharing where you got it. Thanks and keep doing cool projects!
Aww. Thanks so much Tiffany! Glad we could help :).
The white curtains are actually a cloth shower curtain from Wal-Mart and we cut and sewed to size. The curtains in front of the beds were from Home Sense and also cut to size :). Happy hunting!
@@OurMovingRoots thanks so much!
Such a great video! So much inspiration!!
Wow, you guys crushed this! I love ittttttttttttt

Great job!
Thanks!
Very good!!!
love the reno! looks so much like our bare bones model too- gotta convince my husband to help me reno though! haha
ok i have to ask, is it a mesa??
also i LOVE those hooks on the rail that you hang your mugs on. is that an amazon purchase??
haha. Good luck convincing him! We had a lot of fun doing it :)
@@psodi01 It's a Tacoma!
@@psodi01 Yup!

I’m sorry but I got stuck on the pink electric screwdriver being hand twisted to unscrew a cabinet door hinge. Ok, now I can move on, great work by the way. 👍🏻
hahaha. The battery was dead and we didn't have anything else on that day.
Beautiful!
Incredible!
Thanks :)
Nicely done! Any chance you could do a tutorial for the replacement curtains?
Hey Laurel,
We can't make a tutorial video right now, but it was very easy and I can give you the steps.
1. Remove the clips (that hang the curtains) from the old curtains
2. Measure the size of the old curtains.
3. Choose a fabric you like and cut them to a size bigger than your old curtains dimensions (give yourself an extra 3-6 inches on each side)
4. Hem each side of the curtain by hand or with a sewing machine.
5. Re-attach the clips to the new curtain, either by sewing, fabric velcro, or glue.
Finished!
Hopefully that helps. Let us know if you have any more questions :)
YOU GUYS SHOULD BUY A FEW AND DO YOUR TOUCH !!! AND RESELL AND MAKE BANK!! BEAUTIFUL WORK!!
Hah. That's an idea!
Great video guys, we are doing something very similar. I've taken a few tips from your video, thank you. I didn't see anyone ask where you purchased the covering for the burner lid? I like the gray and white, matches the other colors.
Thanks Anothny. The burner lid cover is actually a peel n stick paper from Dollarama. You should be able to find it at any similar store. We just stuck it and cut to size. Good luck with your camper!
@@OurMovingRoots How has it held up ?
@@cathyshafer8962 Completely fine! No peeling or scratches at all. Looks like day 1 still.
Absolutely LOVE what you guys did with this! I am researching pop up renos to give me inspo for my smaller 90’s Coleman… saving this for sure 👏😍
Thanks Steph! We're happy you love it. We do too! Good luck with your smaller popup!
My new inspiration for our new to us Popup! 😍 Paint color?
Wow! Fantastic!
Thanks :)
Love this! 💗
Thanks so much :)
Cute!!!!! Please share how you did the curtains 😅😅😅 I can't even get thr old ones off the c clips
Oh and what you cleaned the walls with??
Haha. We cut off the old clips, went and bought some curtains, hemmed them up to the correct height, then re-sewed the c clips back on to the new curtain!
And the cleaner was just any "RV Tarp Cleaner" from a hardware store :)
Good luck!!
My wife and I have a 2003 Coleman Sun valley model. The inside looks just like the one we have. What year and model was yours? Love the video I would love to do this to ares.
Ours is a also a 2003 Coleman Tacoma! Not surprised they like similar.hah. You should definitely do this to yours!
I with you would have put links for some of the products you got like the trim in for the countertops
Love this camper! Great job. What kind of paint did you use for the door?
Thanks so much!
We used this spray paint
www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/universal/universal-flat-spray-paint
Make sure to sand down the metal first before spraying!
Would love to know what method and tool you used to recover the cushions. We have the same layout as yours and the idea of sewing new zippered cushion covers is overwhelming!
Hey Amanda,
We just cut the fabric to fit, folded around the cushion and then used fabric velcro to hold in place. On the cushions that had wooden backings, we screwed the fabric in for a tighter fit! You also could use fabric glue, but we didn't have faith in that option and went for the velcro.
@@OurMovingRoots Thank you! I appreciate you replying and answering my question, so helfpul! :) I just noticed that you have some baskets hanging from hooks around your ceiling. Are these s-hooks, and are they hanging from the valance curtain track? It looks like you didn't put the valance curtains back up, and I'd love to know how well that system is working for you. I am looking for a solution to hang coats, as they create lots of clutter lying all over the camper.
Beautiful and impressive job. I have the same Coleman Popup Camper. Need your help in remodelling the interior.
Yup! Still a pop-up.
I've been watching rv remodels for a while now. I really love what you did. I don't understand why rv manufacturers aren't watching these as well and "slap to the forehead moment" Maybe we should stop making brown, dark rvs.
Thanks so much. We couldn't agree more. We don't understand why the interior styles haven't changed with the times yet..... We don't all want camo and brown haha.
Guys, you did amazing! Are you planning to sale it?
Thanks Lesia. No plan on selling it. We've been using it the last two years and are so happy in it :)
What paint did you use to do the cabinets? I know the cabinets have a vinyl over them and should be removed but it looks like you painted right over it and it looks great
Hey,
We primed the trailer with "Rustoleum Chalked Charcoal Chalk Smooth Finish" and the final cabinet colour was "Benjamin Moore Grey 2121-10 paint+primer" matched at home depot.
The primer helped us paint over the Vinyl. 2 years later and it's still holding great.
@@OurMovingRoots awesome. I went with Ben shellac primer and wherein Williams cabinet and furniture paint. So far so good!!! The camper looks great though we’ll done
@@jonathonhinkle89 Awesome. Would love to see how yours turns out!
That looks amazing! How long did the remodel take you and how much did it cost?
Do you caulk the quarter round to hold it in place? Or are you worried about water damage?
We did it to hold it in place. Didn't want to nail it.
How much did y'all end up spending? just curious.. i have a 92 Coleman Fleetwood.. looks great btw
What was that paint you used for the cabinets and such?!?? We're renovating our 1996 camper and I really want to paint a similar color to yours, but I've heard that paint doesn't go well over the laminate or vinyl or whatever it is that the cabinets are covered in
Just read through the comments and saw you answered it! Thank you!!
One more paint question, did you have to sand it at all or just the chalk paint as a primer and regular after?
Beautiful job by the way!!! I hope to make ours as beautiful!!
@@kimb9287 hah. Happy you found the answer.
We actually didn't sand it. We just used the chalk paint for primer!
Good luck on yours! Let us know if you have any other questions.
What is the hardware you used for covering the cushions? I like the way you did that, but could not see what you used to screwed them on.
Some of the cushions have a wood backing that we screwed the painters canvas into. For the cushions without wood, we used fabric velcro to secure it. Hope this helps!
Did you guys use vinyl or laminate flooring? How has it held up over the past year?
It was laminate and since we've put it in we've had no problems at all! Held up perfectly well. Having the quarter round around the outside helps as well.
Did you use it for camping following this?
Yup! We've been camping in it 4-5 times a year for the last few years. Everything is holding up fine!
I have the same model. Any tips for the flooring? I have peel & stick vinyl planks, but haven’t put them in yet.
Hey Anna,
The peel and stick vinyl will be easy to lay and also easy to cut (usually can just use an exacto), but will be less waterproof than if you used a lock n click type. But as long as you're not dropping large amounts/pools of water on the floor, it will be fine!
We went with lock n click vinyl, but that's just because we found boxes cheap at the Re-Store!
Remember to leave a 1/4" around the perimeter of your floors for any type of movement or change in size during the seasons. You can put some quarter round or base boards to cover the gaps!
My sons and I were just given a popup and we know NOTHING about restoring it, but are anxious to learn from you! Our first step is a couple of leaks along the seams in the bed ends. There are no tears...Do you have a recommendation on repairing that?
That's great! Probably some sort of seam sealer should be okay.
Maybe try watching this video :)
ruclips.net/video/ZKYvEXa_fWw/видео.html
Wow, they must've garage-kept it.
Actually it has been outside during the winter for 19 years! hah. Just got lucky I guess. We'll be storing it inside from now on though.
2:14 a Weeee bit of overspray.....but it looks Great!!
haha
What's the name of the color for cabinets?
We primed the trailer with "Rustoleum Chalked Charcoal Chalk Smooth Finish" and the final cabinet colour was "Benjamin Moore Grey 2121-10 paint+primer" matched at home depot :)
Beautiful work. Wich model of coleman pop-up is it? Do you have the exterior dimensions?
Thanks! It's a 2003 Coleman Tacoma. The length is 25', the width is 7'5", and the weight is 1950lbs.
Alison - are you ok? It looks like he's holding you hostage. I just want to make sure you're there on your own free will and are happy.
What did you use to clean the canvas?
We used a RV tarp cleaner like this:
www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/simoniz-rv-awning-cleaner-946-ml-0408327p.html
Hopefully you can find some!
amazin
IVE HAD 2 POP UPS!! ABSOLUTELY LOVE EM!! MY WIFE MAKES $160K A YR AND CANT BOIL WATER!! BUT SHE BOUGHT ME A NEW CORVETTE FOR CHRISTMAS 2021!!! NOW WE GOT A BIG HORN 5TH WHEEL!! BUT.. SHE STILL CAN'T BOIL WATER!! I'M AN ACTOR AND LIFE IS GOOD!! GOD BLESS!! FRANK BALAZS THE ISLAND! GOOGLE THAT!! AMEN
How much did this cost you?
Everything in cost us roughly $1500 CAD. That is including all decorations, as well as bedding, pillows, and some things you couldn't see in the video such as weather striping, magnets, hooks etc... To save some quick money, look for flooring at a local restore!
Who selling full canvas replacements for a Coleman utah
Love thr WOTE song
Such a good song!
Great job
Awesome job!
Thanks so much!
fantastic job!
Thanks!
Great job!
Thanks!
Do you happen to have the measurements for all the curtin panels for the beds? I have to make ones for ours and forgot to measure them before we put it away. 🤦♀️
Sorry if this has been asked but what did the reno cost you in total?
Thank you for inspiring us! I love the color theme so much, will definitely try to remodel ours as well. Would you mind sharing the paint you use for the cabinet and the vinyl flooring? These two colors go perfectly together. Keep up the great job!
Aww. This makes us so happy to read! We really love the colour combination also. We primed the trailer with "Rustoleum Chalked Charcoal Chalk Smooth Finish" and the final cabinet colour was "Benjamin Moore Grey 2121-10 paint+primer" matched at home depot. Sadly we don't have the exact flooring as we bought it used at a Restore! But it should be easy enough to match. Good luck in your remodel! Hope you have as much fun as we did :)
@@OurMovingRoots I really appreciate your response! So you did the chalked paint as a prime then put another paint coat on it, right? What kind of paint were you using? Wood paint (water or oil based?) , chalked paint again or just a wall paint? I’m kinda of beginner, lol! Thank you for your patient, and happy holidays!
@@patriciashi1810 No problem! We really don't mind helping.
Yes, the chalked paint is a primer and we did two coats of it. Then we used an interior wall paint with an egg shell finish and did two coats of that. Hope that helps! Happy holidays :)
Right off the bat as you showed the interior pre-renovation; I got hit with a wave of nostalgia. My family had a 98 Coleman Fleetwood Mesa with the exact same interior. I slept on that sofa bed to the right of the door for more than a few summers while my older sister always had the bunk above it all to herself. The main differences I can see is due to the fact that about three years after buying it; my parents had the heater and battery package installed. Oh and we didn't have a fridge. That spot was used for the cooler that came with the camper, and one of the best parts of the camper was that there was a hatch on the outside of the cooler nook so you could still get to it when the camper was closed up.
I have nearly 14 summer vacations worth of memories of that camper going on trips throughout the 48 Continental states. I hope you both make just as many, and that they are of exciting places youve never been to before.
Love it! One of the best makeover’s yet! Enjoy your beautiful camper!
Thank you so much!
Agreed! Best style I've seen :D
@@sasha038 Aww. Thank you so much!!
At 2:35 what do you actually call that plastic edge product you are removing. I need to order some of that also for mine. The one around my table does not stay on anymore.
Thanks
We called it "T-Molding" but I believe some people just call it table trim.
We got it from this website: colemanpopupparts.com/products/white-t-molding
They've got everything you need for your popup!
Great job!!! I looked through most of the comments but didn't see my question asked. What is the white trim called that you put around the cabinets and table. Yours was faux wood and you changed it out to white. And where did you get it? I haven't had luck finding it yet. Thanks!!
Thanks so much Angel.
The white trim is usually called "T-Molding".
We found it here:
colemanpopupparts.com/products/white-t-molding
It was very affordable!
Hope that helps :)
@@OurMovingRoots We are doing a bit of renovating in our pop-up and I've been researching different methods to update the countertops. This one really makes a big difference - thank you for sharing!
this video is so fun but girl you look like youre being held hostage in the intro
hahaha. This made us laugh. Happy you liked the video!
She reminds me of a school teacher and he own a 4x4 business. They live at this park off mountain road
Strange. We are both teachers actually.
Fantastic job!!! I'm sure this camper will bring you happiness and LOTS of fun! I had a 94 Starcraft and would never thought to have made the improvements to it as you've done. Thanks so much for sharing.
