About this video: This video will show you how to find your .minecraft folder on Minecraft Java Edition. Why would you need to find your .minecraft folder? Well, your .minecraft folder has all of the files you could ever want in regards to Minecraft. From your Minecraft worlds and resource packs to the mods you install in Minecraft to even the shaders packs you install in Minecraft, everything in regards to Minecraft Java Edition on your PC is held in your .minecraft folder, so let’s go ahead and show you where your .minecraft folder is on your computer!
Luckily, finding your .minecraft folder is super easy. So easy in fact, we thought about not making a video on it! To find your Minecraft files, hit the start menu button in the bottom right or top right of your computer. Then, type ‘Run’ once you have the start menu open. It should start searching, and a ‘Run’ app should appear.
Open the Run app, and you will see a text box inside it. It this text box, you want to type %appdata%. That’s it. Just type %appdata%. When you do, go ahead and click enter. Now, this won’t take you directly to your .minecraft folder, but it gets you 90% of the way there.
After typing %appdata% in the run app and hitting enter, you will be in your Roaming folder. On your screen, you will actually see your .minecraft folder. It should be right there at the top. Double click on it, and you have now found all of your Minecraft files! You have found your .minecraft folder! Here you can back up Minecraft files, change your Minecraft worlds, and really do anything else you want with your Minecraft files!

For everyone sayimg they don't have a ".minecraft folder" and only a "Minecraft Launcher folder" like me I have a solution
Search up "Run" then instead of typing "%appdata%" just search "appdata" without the "%" then there should be 3 options "Local", "LocalLow", and "Roaming" Click Roaming and your ".minecraft" folder should be there.

and for me on windows 11 that don't have a minecraft folder you can load up run then click browse and you should see "AppData" click on it and then click "Roaming"
i have a problem, i cant find the file mods
My folder only has libraries, versions, and webcache2 folder. There isn't an assets, or recourcepack folder and when I try to download optifine it says there is no 1.8.9 version and i need to download and start it, please help.

So this will take a long time to explain, so I hope you understand. A few days ago, I started on a new Minecraft survival world and I am really far in it. Then, I decided that I wanted to get mods. I watched a load of your videos and now I got that journey map thing to work. However, I started the game in the Forge version like I was supposed to when I realized that my save was gone, because my survival world that I have been playing on was in the Latest Release installation, and not in the Forge installation. I pressed the file symbol of the "Latest Release" installation in the installation tab of the Minecraft launcher. However when I hit the file symbol, nothing came up because the file directory was cleared and it wouldn't open. I could open the file directory of the forge though, because the file directory was actually there and not deleted. What I am trying to do is take my save from the "Latest Release" installation and move it into the save file of the "Forge" installation. Do you know the file directory for the "Latest Release" installation so that I can complete this process? It would mean a lot if you could take a look at this comment.
Edit: after quite a while I actually got it to work. I just deleted and reinstalled the launcher as well as changing the directory of the .Minecraft folder.

U just have to add it and then put the mods inside then its basically a mods folder

if your on windows most of windows computers you can open the window thing using the keyboard and then type run then enter type %appdata% then there you go java folder

I need help. I had recently Installed T launcher. I got the new official minecraft launcher, but when I uninstalled TLauncher I lost so many files in my minecraft folder making me not able to click on things, unable to use texture packs, and lost all my worlds and resetted keybinds.
