My father ,who is buried in arlington National Cemetery, was a Marine officer hero on Guadalcanal and Peleliu. He was an amazing man and father. My biggest disappointment was failing to get my dad to sit down like these gentlemen here. He was the epitome of what the 1st Marines called the "old breed". He retired as a full Colonel.
His grave in Arlington says. Warrick G Hoopes Silver Star, Purple Heart .
God bless all these wonderful American, citizen soldiers who made our freedom possible.

@@jeffreyhoopes1312 My goal is to help Veterans and their families to avoid the all too common disappointment that you shared in not having a nice interview to preserve these wonderful stories.

My father was the company commander of A Company, 1st Battalion, 508th Regiment. My father was disappointed that George Lamm "only" got the DSC rather than the CMH mentioned at 53:35. He felt that what Lamm did was extraordinary, that there was no need to exaggerate. However staff people evaluating for medal awards tended to discount the stories.

As Wild Bill Guarnere said before I think Montgomery and the Brits wanted to be first into Germany and that's why he had the Brits up in Arnhem closest to the Rhine and Germany and the Americans securing the path south leading to Arnhem. It was a dumb operation to begin with.

Rock would respond that the U.S. achieved its objectives.
