Being scared or afraid of combat or jumping from a plane, but still performing through it only means you were humble and respected the dangerous nature of these particular tasks. I think it’s normal to have a healthy fear of things like that. I mean, if one thing goes wrong you could be maimed or killed and there’s no second chances… Didn’t seem like it got the best of you to where you couldn’t do your duty and I’ve think every man can respect that sir! Thank you for this interview and your service! Can tell you’re a genuine man and not only a GIF soldier, but probably one helluva leader… Glad I was blessed to be able to hear your story from your own mouth…

Bill said to me, the last time I saw him, we buried him two weeks ago.
That if you have to shoot 100 bullets to kill one little Vietcong, what good is it?
Bill said shoot em once with a. 308 and you will have no more problems.
He went across the fence carrying 20 clips and never had a problem.
Never lost a man to enemy fire. Said if you saw the enemy you Lay Dog and they would pass right by you and not see you. LRRP was there to observe not to fight.
90% of all casualties were caused by IED, rocket and mortar rounds. In A Shaw Valley you didn't have as much Punji pits as you did toe poppers and one that went around the boot.
Hack all day to go 500 yards. Never walk the trail.
No Diddy bopping in the bush.
No fire, no cooking, no talking, no playing the radio.
    No walking after dark.
No litter, bury your poop. No smoking. The yards were given greese guns and M1 carbine and Garands. Bigger ones liked the Bar.. M60 you laid down to shoot. Cambos did not like the sound of the BAR because the 06 went Baboom not pop pop pop.. Steel jacket and tracer, throw in some green tracers and they will think their own guys were shooting at them. SKS AND AK was a better gun. He carried them when he could.
Lots of Americans were found dead, trying to clear a jam with their rifle torn apart.
