Long live the ww2 veterans
Man's an angel...he'd kill yanif he had to but he'd much rather save your life! Hell of a guy! Hell of a story! SALUTE
Thank you for watching and your comment for Pinky
The German people have been mistreated since the end of ww1 all the way up until today.
Probably one of the best interviews ive ever seen.. this man was in combat long before any of that haters commenting here where even born .. they know nothing of war and they certainly know nothing of what happened over they just regurgitate communist propaganda they learned at college universities
With every answer . This man is reliving the war and all the horrors and heartache that go with it
Thank you for watching and your comment
Using words like "Dichotomy" is not useful when speaking to a non English speaker, or someone of limited vocabulary.... like trump
Thank you for watching
Lot of pain in this mans face.
Thank you for watching and your comment. This is the power of a video oral history interview.
Doe's any one else think he's not giving the hole truth about his part in the war. Like i dont know how i got the iron cross 2 hand?
I like hearing from actual people, they were actually involved, and we know about certain horrors of World War Two, the winning side always tells the story, but there is always another side, I want to hear their stories, the hind site is always 20x20, most of these fellows were kids then, and were not given a political choice or any part of that, mandatory service for most, and sucked into the inferno, all veterans need to tell their story.
Thank you for watching and your comment!
Can't interview dead troops
The commercial breaks made it…
I have a paratrooper helmet from my grandfather they very expensive i got a few offers from anywhere between 7-8 k for it that was like 10 years ago
Wow. A part of war that just isn't considered. What is it like to clean up after a battle. That is a hard, and amazing, task.
Thank your for watching.
So sorry you had to go through such a thing. Thank You For Your Service Towards Our Freedom. You will live in a time where that will never happen. (In our near future).

I just met him on a plane. My name is Rose, and Patrick if you see this i’m sorry I rushed off without a proper goodbye. I wasn’t feeling well and had to hurry. Thank you for keeping me company.
bet he was all in on what Hitler did to the Jews. all these old Germans supported what Hitler did.
He was 17 when the war ended.
@@darkgalaxy5548 even as 12 year olds- THEY WERE ALL IN AND JOINED THE HITLER YOUTH
Jerry was a slang word for a chamber pot used by the British. So, in WW1, the British began calling the Germans - Jerry. The British carried on with that name in WW2.
Thank you for watching and your added information.
Thank you for this great interview with Dr. Albert Siewers.

This is wonderful!
Thank you for watching and your comment!
I'm very grateful that the history project chose to interview my father.
Hello Kim! Thank you! It was our honor.
Excellent video! Genuine question with no ill intent: the Americans use imperial units but the interviewee said "40mm launcher". Is that common and how come? I would have expected it to be converted to imperial (for example 1.5 inch)
Thank you for watching, your comment, and your question. While the U.S. does use imperial units, it does not use that for purposes of its military equipment.
Sorry not sorry some of the people who make these pages or do these interviews are awful at interviewing the questioned are like they are looking at piece of paper of questions to ask but it's the order it's like where did you grow up and then the follow is when did u join what rank what was ur Mos the questions are missed place and badly asked what's ur mos what's ur favorite fast food joint shit like that
The focus of this site is and should be on the Veterans and their stories. We appreciate your feedback but these interviews are also to capture the human side of the Veteran. As such, the interviews are not merely a historical account or recitation of a Veteran's military record. Given this, how might you have done it differently?
@MakingHistoryProject I understand but the questions aren't linear like you asked what branch did you join then you ask what MOS then what weapons were you qualified for then how long you served and what ranked you obtained like how about keep a timeline who's starts with what was ur MOS and asked what weapons you used ????? Start with the textbook questions in order Branch Year joined Boot camp MOS First deployment What was it like what did u do and use like common sense 😂
I just think these people are national treasures om sure you agree but it's completly random and dosent make sense to ask what was ur MOS and what weapons you used and what group they were with before asking what bootcamp was like
How the fuck do you put a microphone on yourself and not the person you’re interviewing. I can barely hear him.
Excellent interview !!
Thank you for watching and your comment!
Coal mines have nothing to do with it ....a Nazi prisoner in France ? , liar !
?
You only spoke with the butt of your rifle ...
You don't know , , why you received the Iron Cross ? ...LIAR !
Exactly what the Russians are told nowadays. The atrocities against Russians in Ukraine. Thats why they have to invade Ukraine. To help. It still works. If you would tell the people the truth they would never invade.
1939, the badest time to go to Germany 😮
Thank you for watching and your comment.
Did he cross paths with Hitler?
Thank you for watching. Harald made no mention of that. It would be rare for a person of his rank to have done that.
His Father was not in the Fighting...Just sent home Helmets of Dead Russian..French Soldiers...He was in Supply n such 😅😅😅😅😅
Glad you made it home safe Daniel. Odds weren't in anyone's favor, don't care where you were you were a target. Thanks for sharing your experience. My step father Sam R.I.P., trained dogs in the nam and he was always quick to say he was generally safe but when you say generally... you mean the odds were less likely you would not face combat, didn't mean he didn't, artillery was always a threat to everyone. Even the medical staff. If your time was up, it was just up he watched another trainer and 5 dogs get blown across the base by an artillery's shell. Not like the infantry guys but you woke up every day listening to artillery and the threat was constant. Sam died of renal failure. His liver was a casualty of that fucked up war! He was only 58 when he passed. I had to carry him to the car on numerous occasions when he needed to go to the hospital with jaundice and convulsions. Thank God for the DAV. Those guys are great! They always helped whenever we needed them. I take money to them directly and drop it off to them. They ALWAYS help their brothers with it. Wounded warriors and others keep a portion of the proceeds. I don't need a t shirt saying I helped. Use that money for the boys for Christ sake!!! Peace brother! We love all you guys and we can't stand the way you boys were treated when you came home! That... was deplorable. Much love and thank you again Daniel. 8^)
Thank you for watching and your comment for Daniel
@@MakingHistoryProject For sure. I hope he gets the message. Cheers.
His English is impeccable. Smart, wise German here.
Thank you for watching!
Absolutely terrible interview. Stupid questions. Couldn’t have fuxed that up worse. Please do better
He didn't remember how he get iron cross ? ha ha... i smell liar hereeeeee
Iron Cross 2nd class was a common award.
@@darkgalaxy5548 i will remember why i got it
Wonder if he is still alive?
Thank you for watching. Harald has passed away.
Recently Had a Patient who was gunner and later Commander on stug3 and Hetzer.... Lord, couldnt Stop listening....
Thank you for watching and your comment.
This interview was done in PERU. Didn’t the culpable Germans escape to South America at the end of WW. 2? Hmmm.
Harald was born in Peru but schooled in Germany when WWII broke out and was subsequently drafted into the German Army.
@@MakingHistoryProject so he chose to stay in Germany when he knew what Germany and Hitler were going to do. Everyone in Europe knew a war was coming. Everyone could see that Hitler and Germany oppressed and promoted hatred against Jews and yet he chose to stay and be part of it. That’s even worse than I originally thought. By posting this video you are glorifying the Third Reich. RUclips should not provide a venue for Germans who supported Hitler to share their views.
This guy makes me sick to my stomach 1:20:47
He was terrific until it came to the Vietnam war. That was was uncalled for. I enlisted into the Navy in 1966 . Regretted every moment of it. 60000 boys killed for nothing
Why?
We need as many perspectives as possible to tell the full story. For decades people have been ignorant of the sacrifice of our WW2 vets.
Thank you for watching and your comment.
@@MakingHistoryProject Thank you for helping to preserve WW2 history.
0:29 he’s one of two looks. I’m still evil you yank, or you have no idea the reality of war you sob
