We've got titles from Walt Simonson, Jason Aaron and Donny Cates, so there must be something in this list for you!

    1. Walt Simonson
    2. Jason Aaron

Simonson’s run will always be the gold standard for Thor in my books. It still stands up to more modern stories with great storytelling and art. Thanks for the video, Marcus. Woof woof!

My first start with Thor was the run by J. Michael Straczynski followed by Kieron Gillen and the bad finale the world eaters by Matt Fraction. I skiped Matt Fraction run after the bad closure of J. Michael Straczynski and Kieron Gillen's run on Thor. Then I picked up Thor by Jason Aaron and followed it up with Donny Cates run. Now I'm reading Immortal Thor by Al Ewing.

Good video. My exposure to Thor has been light through Aaron and JMS’ run so I’m definitely going to check out your recommendations. Hopefully we get a Doctor Strange video sometime soon before his movie. He’s my favorite superhero.

Nice list I’m a big Thor fan thanks to the movies and mythology love but I still need to check out most of these I would also throw in Thor vikings by Garth Ennis a fast loose MAX series of Thor fighting Viking zombies but that godbutcher is one of the best 🔥
Looking forward to next video in the series 🐢

Great stuff, Marcus. I wanna read the IDW Ragnarök series so badly, but the second volume is OOP and thus pretty expensive for such a slim book! As for the actual Marvel stuff, I'm reading the Simonson Omnibus and really enjoying it so far... I just need to take breaks and read other stuff sometimes because of the Shakespearean language, lol.

I started my Thor reading with the TBPs of the JMS run, I think that was a great starting point ^^
I had seen some of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes show and the first Thor movie (MCU) before so I had the some basic knowledge (and I'm Scandinavian which helps with the lore). However from there jumped to single issues of Jason Aaron's run, so I'm really looking forward to pick up the upcoming Matt Fraction omnibus ^^

Great video! I like it that you leave out the old stuff for new readers. Don't think 250 year old comics are the best starting point for NEW readers. They can go back and read that stuff afterwards if they have unlimited time though.
There's also two other great mini-series of Loki, if people like him more. Blood Brothers and The Trial of Loki I think they were called, to lazy to go up from my couch and look, but 99 % sure :D
Missed out on the HCs of Ragnarök, but hopefully they do a HC collection of all three HCs. I have only read the first two volumes but loved it.
And without having read anywhere near everything of Thor, my favorite run is God of Thunder.

The only Thor I own is Astonishing thor in a OHC and I haven't read it, so I'm bound to find some great suggestions here, I do love mythology. I really only had a taste of Thor through the Avengers such as Avengers prime and when tony made that Thor clone in Civil war. The real Thor was pissed.
This video is worthy of Mjolnir itself. Great video as always mate.👍

First off... How the hell did I miss Ragnarok?!?! I'm going to find those trades now. As for the other recommendations, what to read, etc... spot on. I haven't read every Thor run, but I've read a lot over the years and I have a bunch set aside that I need to read. I basically read it when it's great, trail off when I think it's lagging, then pick it back up. Started that way in the mid-80's, but have always loved the character. LOVE the current Cates run (I wish the Galactus storyline was 1-2 issues longer - felt rushed, but still GREAT writing), but I started reading it cold, following him from book-to-book. Didn't feel like I missed out on too much, because there's this thing with new writers on a book - when in doubt, DESTROY EVERYTHING. It happens all the time across the Big 2 books - new writer comes in, puts the characters through a self-contained or multi-book "event filter", which allows them to establish their own new status quo. Death, rebirth, etc. The nice thing about Thor? As you said, he's a GOD. His people as Asgardians... Death and rebirth is in their DNA. While it might get somewhat comical in other books, it's good reading in Thor when you have these huge things happening and Shakespearean delivery. :)
From me - I'd recommend Straczynski every day... Aaron, I have most of it in single issues, which I didn't keep up on, so I'm going to binge the omnibus. Fraction, the same, I need to binge it. I read a LOT of Simonson, but random issues, since they were in my early days of collecting. I want... Nay, NEED to re-read them.

I was really hoping you'd mention a story where Odin banished Thor to Midgard and wiped his memories and became Donald Blake med student.
Do you know a comic series that focuses on that, and it builds up to him gaining his Hammer (not even gonna try to spell it) where he then regains his memories and becomes Midgard's protector

0:36 I always wondered how it is decided which characters are to be taken seriously and which ones are just jokes. Just look at Bat-Man or Sportsmaster. A guy that dresses as a bat and a guy that uses sport's based paraphernalia as weapons are two of the darker and more serious characters in comics. But Deadpool, the ruthless mercenary with mutant powers, yeah he's the joke character.

Is there a Thor character who has good morals like Superman? I don't like his depiction in the live action MCU films, because he comes off as kind of a dumb brute. I saw an animated movie called Hulk Vs Thor, and I like the way Thor was in that, so is there a comic with that version?

    • @himathegreat2987
      @himathegreat2987 Год назад

Thor in the comics himself has great morals close to superman and spiderman. He's considered the only god in marvel universe who even bothers to care about earth and sacrifice his life for it. And he also holds back his powers while fighting on earth
And avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes thor is the best version of animated thor, he's comic accurate and badass. Hulk vs Thor film's thor wasn't that comic accurate. No, i don't think there's a comic with this version
