    So happy to see the Rodi/Ribic Loki miniseries on this list - it's easily the best Loki story ever and Ribic's artwork makes the story have an even more mythic feel to it. It got the Gallery Edition treatment a few years back, and it's definitely one of my favorite Gallery Editions I own.

    It never occurred to me that there are some people who don't even know who Don Blake is. He was such a mainstay in the Thor comics that I read when I was a kid. Simonson's Thor is still my favorite run of thunder god by far though.

    I definitely second the recommendation to jump in at the God Butcher story. I've been reading Jason Aaron's omni, my first time ever reading Thor, and it was great and I absolutely loved it. Great jumping on point in my experience.

    God Butcher is my favourite from this list. I found Goddess of Thunder a slog to get through. Actually, I didn't get through it. Never understood why anyone would like it but hey, strokes for folks and all that.

    Great video! I started reading Thor in April beginning with the first Epic. I plan on reading through the rest of the Silver Age (currently on Vol. 3), into the Bronze Age, and stopping at the end of the Simonson run.

    Nice job, Omar. I have every Thor Omni so far, but I definitely haven't read all of them yet. I weirdly started with Simonson even though I love Silver Age comics and Jack Kirby; go figure.

    When I get asked this question my immediate answer is Walt Simonson's run on Thor. To me, it's one of the most perfect runs on a comic ever. #OmarRules #SimonsonIsAGod

    Thor the Mighty Avenger is absolutely amazing. It would be a great candidate for a Gallery Edition.

    Really like the list. but describing the humor in Love and Thunder as 'witty' is being very generous. :-)

    Thor wasn't in my list of comics to read, but i started to like it because of Beta Ray Bill. I like Beta and by reading Johnson's Argent Star You could say I started reading Thor, but the oldies by DeFalco and ... I like that era.

    I’m hard pressed to name an event in any comic that blew my mind more than setting the stage for Odin+Asgardians+Destroyer+OdinSword vs Celestials in Thor 300. What a great capstone to that Celestial Saga story arch. But yeah the fight was a let down.

    I used to be a Marvel and Thor fan boy, but I've seen him lose too many fights, and my complaint was terrible writing. At least in my view. But I'm going to learn more about Thor through your youtube channel, and maybe I can get more info, because I've been over at DC and absolutely loving some Epic Superman comics. I still don't like some of the writers in Thor's past, but maybe I've missed something.

    Just a heads up about Simonson's run, it often feels kind of dated. I'm no expert and this is my opinion. Even though there are a lot of good stories inside, to me most of the dialog and some of the mini stories are like reading 70s comics, especially the first half. This was written in the mid 80s but it still feels retro. It was literally written for kids. Author even says inside "kids you don't wanna miss the next issue". So, if some of you prefer modern stuff to the older stuff, I suggest reading the first few issues online to see if u like it and then pay 100+$ for the omni. I did love Balder, Sif, Karnilla and Odin in there.

    The Walt Simonson omni is my white whale. I'll catch her someday...
    Edit: Just noticed the video description. I believe the kids have now replaced "beard" with "fade". I know you're an old school comics lover though Omar, I'll let it slide :)

      Fear Itself is a good and fun crossover. But I think things like War of the Realms worked better.

  • @antonbabkin2528

    Interesting, that several years run of Matt Fraction on Thor wasn’t even mentioned. That says something about Fraction writing, that basically sucks. But still, 1300 pages is a solid piece of hard work. I feel sorry for the guy :((

    • @NearMintCondition
      @NearMintCondition  2 года назад

      I mean I also didn’t mention Roy Thomas and Gerry Conway and those two are miles better than Fraction. But it’s not a bout the best stories, but the ones that are more accessible.

    Extremely unpopular opinion but personally I am not the biggest fan of the godbutcher arc mainly because of the art but I loved the story. My favourite part of Jason Aaron's run is the goddess of thunder arc because of Russel dautermans epic art. Currently my favourite run of thor is the donny Cates one.

    Such a shame the route they've gone with in the MCU. They've turned the character into a joke and is nothing like the character I recognise in these great comics. In an alternate universe I'm hoping us Thor fans are being treated to "John Milius' The Mighty Thor!".

    Ugh, that goddess of thunder run marked the decline of Aaron's writing. Since then it has just been a steady slide into mediocrity. The guy was at one point an AMAZING writer and then it was as if a switch was flipped where previously his writing would make me laugh, chuckle, empathise, gasp or have to pick my jaw up from the floor, now it just irritates.

    • @mattthompson3371

      I beg to differ, as someone who's mother was going through chemo at the time, these stories gave me hope. I'm not a fan of his Avengers, but each story effects everyone differently.

    • @Jackfromshack
      @Jackfromshack 2 года назад +1

      Thank God we have Donnie Cates, who sent Aaron's canon to the trash in the first issue. You should give a chance to his run.
