My top 5 recs would have to be
1. JMS’ Spider-Man
2. Miller’s Daredevil
3. Snyder’s Batman
4. Waid’s Fantastic Four
5. Kirkman’s Invincible
All entry level titles with great art work, always my go-to’s!
That’s an awesome list!
Great list. Except that two of those aren't Marvel 😅
@@DarkAssassin702 yeah it just hit me this was a marvel only video lmfao
Cates/Stegman Venom
Geoff Johns Green Lantern
My first comic was Peter Parker: Spider-Man 84 and Batman: Death in the Family part 3, just pick something and go 🤣
Hoping, Bendis' Avengers run, Secret invasion Avengers by Busiek and Perez vol 2 will be on the omnibus reprint pole. It sure would be nice to have Civil war and Secret Wars in omnibus format too.
Agreed! Even though I already have secret invasion omnibus and i think itll get reprinted when the show comes out!
My first MARVEL comic book is the invincible Iron Man Armour Wars.
Annihilation is awesome. I’m about half way through and can confirm it’s pretty noob friendly. Nova is so dope
My first marvel comic? Why your favorite Uncanny X-men: the Draco prologue.
I’ve been reading everything from the beginning of the silver age. I used to think the art and the writing was goofy but you grow to enjoy it. It also made me start to appreciate the progression of the writing and art styles as you read through years of comics. I no longer think that modern digital art is better than early comic art.
I have been trying to do the same. But keep getting bogged down with all the books. Did you start with a particular book(s)?
@@chrisdarvill5517 i started with reading the first 2-3 omnibus of my favorite characters which are Spider-Man and X-men. Then F4 until around when Silver Surfer and Galactus show up. My next goals are to read about each character before they join the Avengers and the Defenders. The complete marvel reading order website and marvel unlimited helped me to read what i wanted in order.
My first Marvel comic was G.I. Joe #13. I was hopelessly lost but still loved it.
If people ask my what to read first, I’d suggested Spider-Man Coming Home, Spider-Man Brand New Day, Ultimate Spider-Man Power and Responsibility, Daredevil Underboss, Astonishing X-Men Gifted and Runaways Pride and Joy
The best there is at what he does and what he does is make great content for us to digest! Love your lists and I usually agree with them... Usually.
30:20 One-and-done Marvel Omni list, please! I want that video!
I started too young to remember exactly what my first issue was but I will say the earliest memory of reading a comic I have is Amazing Spider-Man 361 while sitting in the break room of the hospital my dad worked at.
Also forgot to write, my first comic book was Spider-man (1990) issue 88, I really hope it gets collected in the omnibus format in the future, would be awesome to read it again in oversized format filled with nostalgia, oh man
Even tho I am not a beginner omar I love these type of videos because I have a lot of non comic book reader friends so I can have some good suggestions for them also, if they ever want to jump in. Also since it made it to your list, where is the announcement for the Matt Fraction Iron man omnibus ???
Omar did say "yet" ;-)
I’ve always been a collected editions Guy my first comic I’ve read was the Marvel Essential Ant-Man Vol1. I remember after finishing it looking for vol2 not knowing there was no volume 2 and that the essential line was discontinued. But now with vol2 of the Epic Collection releasing I now finally completed my quest, thank you Omar.
The first comics that I can remember is Venom: Lethal Protector #1 (the holographic cover got me) and Superman #75 (Yes, I fell for the hype)
Was familiar with Marvel comics and characters via shows, video games, and cards. The first comic I read from cover to cover was Venom Lethal Protector 1. Subsequently read that 6 issue run. As a kid, I loved going to the comic shop with my friends or dad.
The first marvel comic i can remember looking through was a spider ham issue when i was a kid. My real introduction to marvel comics was the Ultimate spider man when my sister got me vol 1 of the tpb. I still have that book, and i keep nice and safe :)
The essential lines. I would say Daredeil Yellow as well. Also, upset now I want those Punisher books
Solid picks as always. My first ever Marvel Comic was Iron Man 232 (the epilogue to Armor Wars). I picked it up because of the cool cover (by Barry Windsor-Smith). My first Marvel trade was "The Trial of Galactus" trade collecting a small chunk of Byrne's FF run. Still have both in my collection 25 years later.
I started with F4 Stan lee. What a great run
This list is amazing Omar! Thank you! I'd love to see a list for DC.
My first marvel comic book was a Finnish edition of Amazing Spider-man vol 2 issues 23-24 I had no idea what was going on, just wanted to have it because of being fan of the animated series. Read the book so many times that the cover fell off 😅 JMS run is what got me hooked to comic books and I would recommend it to everyone :)
Love that you’re bringing this series back!
YES
Awesome list!
I do not remember my very first marvel comic.
But my earliest memories of buying a new marvel comic from the store was x-men 268.
I know I was collecting before that.
I used to buy ghost rider and any comic that had multiple characters guest staring.
I used to buy marvel comics presents, new warriors, amazing Spider-Man, and guardians of the galaxy.
Love these videos! Great list. I have a hard time deciding which book is the best and I think you are right about Marvels and Man Without Fear.
My first Marvel comic was Doom 2099 ('92). Man that cover draws you in. Didn't read anything since then and am now looking to get into it. Hence why I'm here! I just finished the first New X-Men Omnibus, and I feel like there has got to be a better starting point lol.
These are my favorite videos of yours. I love the “where to start reading” segments.
My first Marvel comic I started reading was Amazing Spider-man #30 by JMS. That run will always have a special place in my heart
Star Wars, Old Republic Omnibus is what got me hooked on comics and collected editions. I bece a "minty" too after that
I started my whole collections two years ago because of you, omar. I’ve got tpbs, HC, OHCs, omnibuses, DC, Marvel, IDW, mangas and I still do enjoy this kind of video. This kind of hobby kept me alive, thank you for introducing me to the game bro! My first marvel was house of x powers of x in tpb format!
This was a great video, Omar!
Thank you so much!
Great video and an awesome list! I’m also not a big fan of Civil War, but I agree it’s a good blockbuster movie king of story that most people will enjoy. 👍🏼
My first Marvel comic was Spectacular Spider-Man 229. I was introduced to Marvel thanks to the Spider-Man Animated show and now I'm reading a comic where the real Spidey is a guy named Ben Reilly! I had no idea what was going on but it still hooked me and I have a soft spot for Clone Saga 😂
Great list! I hope we get a complete collection for Kelly Thompson’s Black Widow. I might have added Doctor Strange by Jason Aaron too, one and done.
All good choices. Two additions I'd like to add is for those who are fans of Doctor Strange, read The Oath by Bryan K Vaughn. It's an excellent comic and my first CB of Doctor Strange I ever read. It's a great standalone comic that catches you up on the basics and is a strong story on its own. Also, you really get a sense of Strange and Wong's friendship. Another CB I also recommend is the Marvels by Alex Ross on art and Kurt Busiek. If you want to get a sense of golden age Marvel without going through older comics and see the ages come and go, it's a great CB to check out.
The Oath is a great call, that's my all-time favorite Doctor Strange story, it's really, really good.
The Oath was the first comic series that I read the entirety of. Great, fun stuff.
First comic I read was FF by Waid
My first marvel comic was Gambit #1. I wanted it to be X-men but I couldn't find #1 at my LCS. lol
Great list. I would also suggest Doctor Strange by Jason Aaron and Chris Bachalo. Perfect for beginners.
My first Marvel comics was Iron Man Heroes Return #2
That's a pretty cool list. My first comic was probably a He-Man minicomic 😂 As far as Marvel goes, it would've been Spider-Man, but I don't remember which one. In the UK they used to do some collected series in the 80s aimed at the younger market. Same with Batman. Then I was reading the Marvel UK collector's editions for many years, which tended to reprint the American comics, roughly 1-2 years behind. My first actual "proper comic" wasn't until I was a teenager, and it was an early 90s Hulk issue. We didn't have comic shops in my town, but I finally found a papershop that stocked imports. Dark times 😅
My first marvel comic was marvel age spider man but what really got me into comics was the classic runs of spider man and fantastic 4 by stan lee and jack kirby
First comic was ultimate Spider-Man after Gwen dies
Hulk - 222 by Jim Starlin!
In the early 90s I was mainly reading stuff like the TMNT Archie series and Usagi Yojimbo, thanks to his appearances on the former's cartoon. However, the first Marvel comic I ever sought out was X-Men Adventures #1 thanks to having caught the 2-part pilot of the animated series on FoxKids. Soon, I'll have the omnibus to take me back to my childhood... 30 years later.
What would I recommend for a first time Marvel reader? Likely Marvels. Glad to see it is on the list here and a great read to indoctrinate someone into the early Marvel universe with many of silver and early Bronze age events and their characters.
Also glad to see Daredevil: Man Without Fear on there. Probably my second best of Miller's DD run (after Born Again), but definitely the easiest one for new readers to jump into. In fact, it was MY first exploration into he character in the early 90s as well.
My own pick not above? I've always felt that Untold Tales of Spider-Man would be a great read that keeps the classic "year one" vibe of teenage Peter Parker with the more modern writing of Kurt Busiek.
Omar. Great video.
My first comic book was "El Asombroso Hombre-Araña" #186 dated November 16, 1983 (originally published at ASM 190) and from there I had stopped reading and Collecting books.
Is there any chance that un the future there could be a video of top ten "Best run" un a character or characters.
One question, Which was the first TPB You get doe your Collection?
Thank You again for the video.
Regards
Hudlin is such a good run
My list slants more towards the earlier stuff. Daredevil Born Again, Iron Man Demon in a Bottle, Thor Simonson and the short Stern/Byrne run of Captain America. The Dark Phoenix Saga is also a super fun read that is extremely re-readable.
My first comic book I bought was Incredible Hulk issue # 199 2:28 2:32
I don't know how this video fell under my radar. Weird. Anyway some of my personal recommendations are Daredevil by Chip Zdarsky, Moon Knight by Jed Mackay, and Guardians of the Galaxy by Al Ewing. Daredevil and Moon Knight are great starting points for the characters and while Ewing's Guardians does require a bit of cosmic Marvel context, most of what you need to know is explained. Also honorable mention to Jason Aaron's Thor and G. Willow Wilson's Ms. Marvel. Easily some of my favorite reads thus far aside from the ones I've already brought up.
I had these random scholastic style Spider-Man team up books, one was with iron man the other with captain America. There’d be a random Spider-Man issue then a random issue from whoever he was teaming up with then the team up issue
Please do one of these for daredevil
24:18 Invisible Iron Man 😂🤣
My first Marvel comic was Spider-Man Unlimited #1
Why Omar, how could you not recommend that they start with issue #1 of the Golden Age series called Marvel Comics?
JK, of course. I have no idea what my first Marvel comic was, because my dad had a big Tupperware bin full of comics in our house, and one day I just started reading comics with one of them. There's a lot of Marvel, DC, Archie, and even some other companies represented. I still have that bin in my apartment, and my dad wants me to give it back to him whenever I move stuff around and can access it in my closet, lol.
Spiderman vs the wall comic is where beginners should start reading
My first Marcel comic was Avengers vs Xmen
I would add Daredevil by Frank Miller, Fantastic Four by John Byrne, Thor by Walt Simonson and Hulk by Peter David. Obvious choices perhaps but classic runs of the characters. And maybe Roger Stern’s run on the Avengers. And 1990s Ghost Rider. And any issues of Transformers UK featuring Death’s Head. Loved those as a kid.
I see those books as some of the definitive runs of those books. But jumping on points it might be harder Joe. But yes to ghost rider!
I couldn’t help but notice you didn’t include super pro.
I love a lot of these and hate a few. Here's one THUNDERBOLTS vol. 1. by Busiek and Bagley. It's a Marvel without heroes where the TBolts step in. It's an original concept as a team book. Then there's the end of the first issue. FYI, I cringe every time someone says TBolts is Marvel's Suicide Squad. It's not. Only one of the original members die.
Omar wheres your top 10 dc comics for manga readers video at?
I think that the Wolverine omnibus vol. 1 is out of stock unfortunately :( I really wanted it tho
I would hand them Ultimate Spider-Man
I’m actually glad they censored the word especially since it’s derogatory. You can get anyone into the comic without having to deal with that
When can we expect a DC version of this?
Uncanny #118 .... Omar,please do this for Manga !!
First Marvel comic: Star Wars #11
Why hasnt there been a civil war omnibus yet??
Do you know cheaper daredevil comics then 110 dollars
DC next please 🥺🫶
Ohh yeah!
Seconded!!!

Are you not uploading the previews anymore? Not everyone can be there at the designated tiem. Bad decision if not.
They are there but RUclips doesn't make them easy to find. For me (on a Kindle) there is a drop down menu next to Shorts and if you select Live you see all the live broadcasts
14:30
Where did yhe Saturday stream upload go?
It’s there. But on the desktop you have to go to the LIVE tab. YT really pushing for shorts.
@@NearMintCondition thanks minties.
11:38 where are those polls posted?
Here on the channel. I’ll make a video in February with the list of out of print books and you all vote with the link I provide.
@@NearMintCondition That’s great! Got my first omni last summer(USM Vol 1, wanted to have the whole USM series since 2006! A pasion similar to your for the Uncanny series) and expanded since with 9 others with about 5 more soon to be acquired, mostly thanks to your channel! Really looking forward to those polls, new releases and prints I’ve missed out on
I always hated that Wolverine limited series cover. The mutilative violence which it flippantly implies grotesquely degrades Miller's talent, casts doubt over whether this hugely intelligent writer wrote it, and is surely more offensive than whatever word Marvel has removed from God Loves, Man Kills.
I don't think that Punisher Welcome back frank is still available in omnibus format.
It is not. "Punisher by Garth Ennis Omnibus" has been OOP for a few years now.
It’s had two printings. The latest In 2018. Hope to see it come back.
@@NearMintCondition Me too. I would buy it to complete my Garth Ennis on Punisher collection.
Bendis New Avengers is a big miss. This changed everything.
How no Miles Morales?
Batman, the last night on Earth.
The Snyder and Capullo book?
I would have added something by Louise Simonson if it had to be a female writer,as Ms.Marvel by G. Willow Wilson didnt work for me.
I couldn’t find anything by Weezie that was for a brand new reader that wanted to get into Marvel, both her xfactor and new mutants run she took over from other writers. Maybe maybe power pack, but to put it on a top 20 list?
@@NearMintCondition Hmmnn... I see your point.

Who is this
Simple Advise - Search Ultimate Marvel Reading Order And Start Reading All 688 Issues, They Cover All Major Storylines And They Are Insane
I disagree with lots on that list. If it works for you, though, that’s all that matters.
My first marvel comic was Star Was #1 by Jason Aaron. The first comic I ever bought after finding a lcbs near where I lived in college. So long ago. 🥲
That’s a great book!
I only have 170+ comics, but I’ve have some big-name comics, so here are my recommendations:
- Batman: The Killing Joke
- Nightwing Vol. 1: Leaping Into The Light
- Amazing Spider-Man By JMS Omnibus Vol. 1
- Black Adam: Rise and Fall of an Empire
- House of X/Powers of X
