I am an experienced cook, but I've only made cake maybe once or twice before in all my 62 years. So I really appreciate this video so I can ensure I do NOT make any mistakes in frosting my cake today. I like to do things right and all these little tips were so helpful. Thank you!
Thank you so much, I work in one of the most biggest chain of restaurants in Illinois and people have been trying to teach me how to frost the cakes, but nobody has gotten so detailed as you did with this video, I appreciate it truelly👌🙏
I'm making a cake for my 16th birthday in a couple days. It will be my first attempt at a 2 layer cake and I've never actually made a proper cake before either... This video is great and I'm sure my cake will turn out good with these great tips! Thank you!!
Okay baby she changed the game with this hack. She explained it in depth so ucan get it. I learned so much from this one video. My cake going to look professional. 😂😂❤❤
I’m making my first layer cake next week when my father gets out of surgery. I’ve always seen and watched frosting on tv, but never tried it, and never understood how they got it so smooth!! THE SECRET IS OUT
I make a round spring-form cake any diameter you want. I have a few of them. I cool the cake, usually in the freezer. Then I take a long piece of floss, wrapped around the cake and pull it through. You can make as many or as few layers as you want. Works perfect for me every time. All layers are flat and a lots less work.
I just made a three tiered red velvet cake for my son’s birthday. I used an offset spatula to apply the cream cheese frosting and I got a really smooth and straight finish. My tip is to take time for this step and make sure your frosting is not too soft (pop it in the fridge for a while if it is). I cooled the frosted cake in the fridge before I added chocolate ganache for a drip cake. My son and my guests were impressed. I’m not a chef.
London1869 for the dish cloths, do they have to be a specific kind of fabric? I’ve seen some people wet paper towels or wet news paper and then wrap it in foil and use them as strips.
Yay! Finally a video on how to decorate a two layer cake instead of three or four! I'm a beginner and I rather start small so thank you SOOOO much for this video! I am subscribing to your channel!😃
This is a great tutorial. I've always at the amateur problem of crums getting in to my frosting when I frost it, but she explains very nicely how to prevent that! Great video!
Wow!!! Thank you for this video 😊 I'm about to frost my cake tom and a bit nervous. It's my first time to make my own cake for my birthday ♥️ Thanks for this!
Take 1 can of frosting, put it in a bowl and whip it with your mixer. It will double in size. But this is just in time for 2 cakes I made for Thanksgiving. I can never frost them correctly, this is so easy, Thank you! 🦃
making my first solo homemade cake today since moving out :( my mom always hated frosting our cakes because she never fails to shift the layers 😅 This video honestly gave me a bit of hope, waiting for them to cool now!
I typically alter playback speed to 1.25 or 1.50........I don’t often get time to sit and watch videos so this really helps. Thank you for the tutorial!
My brother and I made our own sugar for a cake we were making for our dad's birthday. We didn't use powdered sugar, and we realized our mistake after we put it on. We made due but decided to freeze the cake in the freezer. (idk why we did it.) We both were afraid it wouldn't taste very good, but when we tasted it, we realized we had made a cake that tasted like chocolate chip cookies! we were both very pleasantly surprised, and my dad enjoyed his cake.
BEST tutorial I've seen! Thank you so much.! You baking beauties are so amazing. Indont know why I CANNOT get my frosting smooth, Im having math class flashbacks! You make it look so easy. Im gonna try again because you have a lot of great tips. Thank you! I'll let u know how it goes. I wish I could post pictures. Ive made some scary cakes. Im a subscriber for life
Informative tutorial. She was professional and to the point. Ppl milling about in the background didn’t bother me as much as some viewers commented, but I see what they mean.
I typically place my cakes on coated cardboard rounds and store/transport them in white cake boxes I get from a local bakery supply shop. Placing strips of parchment under the cake while icing it is such a great idea! This vide was very helpful.
I'm making a cake for my son's first birthday this weekend and I'm so nervous! Lol It will mostly end up on the floor anyway. This was super helpful, thank you!
I know this video has been out for a couple of years but thank you so much for posting. This really helped me out. Decided to make and decorate a cake from scratch for my boyfriends birthday and I feel much more comfortable now.
Using Cake strips around the pans will keep your cake tops flat. CAKE STRIP= Damp paper towel wrapped in tin foil and placed around the outside of the pan. Also helps keep the cake edge moist and fluffy instead of stiff and brown.
Oh goodness. This is basic and she said she was skipping to the taking strips out. I love to watch Bridget. She has the best heart and would love to meet her in person.
I’m a 14 yo baker and I’ve been making cakes for a long long time, coming from my advice, I absolutely suggest adding a crumb coat, so add a coat of frosting (a thin coat) and leave it in the refrigerator for about 20-30 minutes. This will keep the crumbs out of your final coat and give the Cake a better look
Those spatulas look much much better to uses then regular knifes for frosting applications. Almost like miniature masonry spatulas. I knew about letting the cake cool before applying the frosting, but didnt think to sculpt/trim the cake flat or to the shape you want it before applying the frosting. Nice looking cake.
love this video, my best friends birthday is tpday and i want to make her a cute cake but ive never baked a cake with more than one layer and i think this just saved my life
You and Julia did a beautiful double layer white cake with buttercream frosting and raspberry filling, with sliced almonds all around. What episode was that from? I've been looking everywhere for it!!
Come on people... This nice lady just takes nothing for granted. She's giving all the information and techniques someone needs even of they've never knew what frosting is and how to do it! It's beginners how to.....
Thank you was thinking the same thing! Great video for a beginner like me.
But she doesn't even give a recipe for the frosting...
Yep...I never knew what a cake crumb coat was
Casey Goode The title says how to frost a cake, not frosting recipe.

@@domesticdiva708 not really an industrial kitchen, more of a huge home kitchen. Chef’s kitchen I guess.
Very simple for a beginner. Thanks for sharing this

I find that cake insulating strips help minimize cake dome syndrome. You can use actual insulating strips or just wet dish cloths.
London1869 this actually works, much easier than cutting the cake
London1869 for the dish cloths, do they have to be a specific kind of fabric? I’ve seen some people wet paper towels or wet news paper and then wrap it in foil and use them as strips.
Maggie C Wilton sells cake strips. You can get them on Amazon.
Lol video I watched before this was on cake strips. First thing I thought when I saw her cakes was she needs those!!

this is great one tip of my own if you don't have parchment paper use wax paper or paper towels they do work!!
Use cake strips around your pans when baking them. It helps prevent the dome by keeping the outside of the pan cooler.
